Love love love Steely Dan... but the saxes ruined this song... they really needed the xylophone/vibraphone... that's what made the song special to begin with... nice video/audio though.
@Spartacus217 well i dont know about the band in general ...but when donald started his little rant !!first thing i thought was shit this sounds like a Zappa rant .. strange they were born 3000 miles apart !!!
A song about a guy who shows dirty movies in his den on his own old movie projector to kids. Key Lines "Soon it will be to late..bobbing for apples can wait. I know you're used to 16 or more, sorry we only have 8" That last line is a reference to the size of the film, 16mm or larger would be a pro film...8mm is amateur. The song sounds happy and upbeat, but this hides the character's seedy hobby.
@DiannaTe It's funny, because once when asked what this song was about, either Becker or Fagen said it was about sniffing glue. After all La Page used to be a brand of glue, like Elmer's. The Dan were always messing with the media.
I think Walter's voice is in top form.I was at this "Art Crimes 96'" tour at Shoeline Ampitheatre in San Francisco. It was my first Dan concert. I bootlegged the concert and still listen to it. Life began for me on that day.P.S. buy Walter Becker's new c.d. "Circus Money". It's by far the best new release of 2008.
Walter get way to much heat for his singing. I'm not saying he's a great vocalist, and neither does he:p But he has a lovely narrator like voice for these type of songs.
No question Circus Money is a GREAT CD from top to bottom.Walter singing is top notch and he and Keith Carlock are a STRONG rhythm section.Great songwriting by Walter and Larry Klein,a great bass player as well, who plays on the title.but you already know this.
I prefer the studio version, but I like this too...is great sound...fantastic how good that we can see Steely Dan here on youtube, because is dificult to they play here in europe. thank`s.
This is the pinnacle of why i love steely dan.
