what is everyone talking about. he had more promos talk time then almost everybody on wcw. they also used him right. hes a goofy bad guy that never cheated to win in wcw and was really funny. in wwe they had him a copycat badguy. Jericho in wcw was 50 times funnier and better than jericho wwe.
I had this t-shirt way back in 1998. One of my all-time favorite pro wrestling tees although unfortunately I no longer have it. Jericho was a goldmine WCW never fully took advantage of...but at least they gave the guy a shirt...lol.
@don417 True, but the difference with Jericho and all those other guys is that they HAD a marketable gimmick with Jericho they just chose not to use it. Most of those other guys became popular with different personas. Jericho just took his act to WWF and garnered success there. WCW had a winning formula RIGHT THERE and totally frittered it away.
lol @ Jericho not getting a push in WCW. He had TV and Cruiserweight title runs (when the belt meant something before hornswoggle became cruiserweight champ). WCW Sucked, amittedly, after the finger poke of doom. Jericho should have been the one to beat Goldberg and become WCW champ. But people like Hogan kept getting the belt when they didn't have it anymore. I am glad Jericho got a better push in WWF, though. He earned it.
@TheManAbove He's still funny, just in a different way. He's a completely different character now and not funny as often, but there are still plenty of times where he makes me laugh my ass off. He's just more subtle and not over the top with it these days.
The stuff he did in WCW was awesome. i.e. the 1000 wrist holds and his thing with Goldberg. I'm actually surprised he never got pushed. He was one of the best things in the company at a time.
Alright, so let's get this straight boys and gals, Jericho never got a push in WCW, he never got the chance to shine in WCW. Yet, they filmed a commercial to sell a t-shirt with his name on it and they gave him the WCW Cruiserweight and WCW TV Titles? Yet, that's not getting a push? For those that used to watch this organization back in the Jim Crockett Days before Turner bought the whole show, would definitely know that wrestlers pushed in the World TV title division were some of the best!
You'd think with the way some people post on this video that Jericho was buried in WCW. Hell if getting buried and held down in a company means that I get a TV commercial on prime time television selling a TV shirt with my own name on it and having a chance to show up on prime time TV to promote it, then find me a six foot hole drop me in there and start dumping the dirt!
@RonaldJoseCarlos Thank you so much. Jericho was just a little bitch. He got a HUGE push in WCW. There's a difference between not getting a push and getting a push you didn't like.
@PeoplesWar Thank you for noticing the comment too, lol! Yeah, still like Jericho would never back down from that, but this was definitely proof that he had some highlights in WCW that the then-WWF now-WWE marks would never want you to remember.
@RonaldJoseCarlos The WWF/E marks simply took WWF/E's "version" of the story and ran with it. It doesn't take a genius to know that the basis for Jericho's character in the WWF/E emerged from WCW. Yeah, he was never "developed" either. LOL
@PeoplesWar read his Book he wanted to leave WCW almost the min he got there) he took less money to got to . He got way miss used in wcw I think his 9 time IC title runs and his 6 word title runs say he made the right choice .
@PeoplesWar he didnt get a huge push tho did he he did get a small push witch was alot more than a lot of talent at wcw got but he should of got way more and a lot of his matches on nitro werent receiving much in the way of commentary ether a small bit a bout the match at the start then constant talking bout nwo throughout the match till the end when they'd let blind people know who won.
Jericho didn't get a push in wcw?For a mid-carders he had alot of mic time. He lost one the C.W. belt & got the T.v. belt the next night. Held on to both a long while.
Jericho didn't get a push in wcw? O.K. you got Goldberg, sting, hogan, Hall & nash, Luger. And you're supposed 2 put the belt on Jericho? He was a nobody when he came to wcw. For a mid-carders he had alot of mic time. He lost one the C.W. belt & got the T.v. belt the next night. Held on to both a long while.
Not only is it a push it's better than what Benoit got. Eric had mad talent pressures. And he's supposed to give jericho the wcw belt?

I agree. He should've been where Hall, Nash abd Hogan were. Jericho had huge drawing power, and everyone knows a real push leads to the heavyweight title. Jericho never even got close to it in WCW. That's what a push is, and Jericho did not receive one. I thumbs upped up to make up for those misinformed.
@Patrickhollywood They didn't drop the ball with him. He dominated the cruiserweight division. People forget at the time Hogan, Savage, Flair, Giant, DDP, Nash, Goldberg, among others were at the top of the food chain. WCW had an insanely deep roster at the time. WCW's cruiserweights were better then WWF's heavyweights. Do you think he would have confronted the Rock on his 1st night if he was poorly pushed? He was a star before he came to WWE, he became a legend in WWE.
WCW never created the character at all. Chris Jericho was Chris Jericho all the way back to the days of Rocky Mountain Wrestling in Canada with booker/promoter Ed Langley in 1990. He had the same persona then.
Sean Waltman himself said in a recent interview that prior to his time with the WWF, Jericho had to "grow up."
This, to me, indicates that Jericho most definitely got a push as you said, but he didn't like what he got. Its not WCW or Eric Bischoff's fault the guys didn't like what they were given.
Well not everybody can be a main eventer. In that era, even the lower mid-carders got over so he should have just been happy to be on TV, let alone get some title runs.
Wait a minute! Sean Waltman saying something is hardly a credible source. IF you can find anyone else who says the same thing, I'll believe it. I will never believe a word from Sean Waltman.
according to his book, he said all these things with merchandise and interview time and such he had to pitch himself and push to get through... either way, it worked, everyone remembers Jerichos WCW work
I hate how the WWE pretended like they were solely responsible for the development of Jericho. They may have pushed him, but WCW created the character.
This is really tough for me to come out with, but as they say, admitting you have a problem is the first step to getting better. So I'm just going to come out and say it. My name is Blaize Richardson and I've been a Jerichoholic for well over 10 years now.
WCW Chris Jericho is the true wrestling god. Unmasked Air Quasi. Took out Mysterio's knee. Retired Dean Malenko. Long live WCW Jericho and the Jerichoholics!!
