  • Mate, how long did it take to put this video together? Thanks. You seemed very keen to include various pictures of different races holding hands and dancing round the world, for the 'we are not 2 we are 1' line. I'm all for that kind of thing, you know, not being racist and stuff.

  • I AM this song

  • thumbs if you're a stranger

  • Coincidentally, this song is used in the soundtrack of Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited, and at 2:28-2:35 there are images from Wes Anderson's The Royale Tennebams.

  • @starklingvalor yeah we're all Wes Anderson fans here man you don't have to point that out

  • amazing, I needed something like this to get me going today.

  • totally awesome

  • Poor Adrian Brody, he didn't mean to let that indian kid die...

  • @Manfromtheinternet Terribly sad scene in an amazing movie...

  • Timeless song written by the minority songwriting member of the minority band of the British Invasion. The Founders would appreciate it.

  • Correct, it was written by Dave Davies.

  • i think dave wrote this song

  • If I live too long i'm afraid i'll die, love that song always. Cheers and happy Christmas

  • I absolutely love when at "Holy man and Holy priest" the keboards kick in.....truly epic spiritual moment! This song makes me cry!!!!

Love this song and Dave SO MUCH!!!!!

    Thanks for posting!

  • A great song. Written and sung I believe by Dave, who also sang on two other Kinks' classics: "Walking on a thin line" and the defiant, anthemic, superb "I'm not like everybody else". One thing all 3 have in common is that when I heard each one for the first time I could not stop playing it for a week, nor get the music and words out of my head!

  • same with me

  • ...I'm Not Like Everybody Else? Ray wrote that song, but let Dave sing it.

  • Correct. But I did not say Dave wrote it, only that he sang it. (And a damn fine job he made of it too!). I did say that I thought he wrote "Strangers" though. Both of them excellent tracks, as was "Living on a thin line", which I incorrectly called "Walking on a thin line". Apologies for the error. Great to see so many Kinks fans on You Tube.

  • Ah, okay! I misread your comment. I agree though, that Dave does a great job singing it. And "Strangers" is one of my favourite Kinks songs. :)

  • I like you, Mr DaigoMoustache. From your humorous name and its English spelling, to your defence of truth and your integrity. Great musical taste, too.

  • Ha! Well, I'm Canadian so of course I'm going to spell things the right way. I'm also glad to meet anyone who is a fan of The Kinks. It seems we are a rare breed.

  • Amazing song, and great pics.

  • This really is a beautiful song. I haven't heard it for years. Thank you.

  • the chord progression is awesome. this song is all around just great. i love it.

  • I love this song, it is so beautiful. i think this would be a better song to walk down the isle to because of the line "we are not two we are one"

  • favorite song of all time

  • darjeeling lmt... best movie eva!

  • Sweet video, no cheap images to ruin such a gem of a song

  • Great song...it reminds me Noel Gallagher , Dave Davis & Noel Gallagher have a similar voice ...this song sounds like an Oasis song...I thought the Beatles were their only "influence" but I didn't know the Kinks were too...As the Beatles,The Kinks were awesome, they 've wriitten incredible pop songs

  • What a song. Yeah, I too saw the Darjeeling Express, not knowing there would be Kinks songs. What a pleasant suprise that was !!!

  • nice video. I like the pictures and visuals as the lyrics can be difficult for some people to hear.

  • give the guy a break and stop bitching.

  • why the terrible visuals?

    great song

  • The Kinks are the GOAT but have not heard this, nor many of their songs, before. It IS great and the visuals with lyrics are Tony The Tiger grrrrrrrrrreaaaaaaat!

  • the images were lame but i love the song.

  • Well funny u shud mention the darjeeling limited cause me and two friends watched that film. We were so moved by it that we are gunna take a gap year and do what the three brothers did in the film. Also we intend on listening to this song, over and over again to really understand it b4 our journey.

  • Sounds amazing man. Best of luck.

    To adventure...

  • Omg, I wrote this a year ago. I totally forgot about writting this comment. Well the plans are underway. We have our train tickets booked aswell as plane tickets to get out to india. Ill be sure to post how it went once I get back. Will be a while yet but cant wait.

  • You're kidding me! That's amazing! If you want, I'd love to get a PM about how it all went. :)

  • Enjoyed!!

  • This is fucking awesome..

  • great song, love the kinks

  • Just noticed this but 2:28 - 2:36 is Richie from The Royal Tenenbaums :P

  • nice

  • 1st time i heard it great song ty

    Kinkette 55

  • Loved the pictures.

    Thnx for uploading this. ^.^

  • You leave Mr. Mitchothepirateboy be, thehyde21. (Christ, has no-one real names on the internet?) I can't fathom how people like you, thehyde21, can listen to such a calming song as this and then suddenly harass defenseless commenters like Mr. Mitchothepirateboy. You twat.

  • hypocrite much and the song is the exact opposite of whatever tht guys name is its about purity not alchoal

  • i am horrified! Nowadays everyone takes everything too seriously, or sometimes even personally. Its a good thing to see intelligent and morally upstanding individuals such as Mr. Warwickcain who are able to tolerate other people's opinions and feelings. Mr. Warwickcain has stood up against the oppression that the thehyde21 wants to enforce, justifiably so. Not today thehyde21, not today!

  • Lovely weather.

  • This song reminds of the time in the early morning where you wake with a spliting headache and you are surrounded by empty beer bottles. Similarly its reminiscent of the feeling you get when you look across the bed and find that girl that you thought was a totally hot babe but has transformed into a dead kangaroo. This song possesses, within it, so many emotions that can be appreciated but i guess that comes with life experience.

    Thanks for reading!

  • What a delightfully cynical and sarcastic being you are. I'd like to suck you off, but I'm a dead kangaroo so you mightn't dig me.

  • Flattery will get you everywhere my friend! ;) Glad you liked it!

  • Someone didn't have their afternoon juice box, did they?

  • I love the Kinks and this song. However, the third line should read

"So where do I go, what WILL I see"

    Great job

  • this song is like a heartbeat and I love it so.

  • Can anyone be so kind to tell what album this song is from? Besides the Darjeeling Limited OST I mean.

    Thanks.

  • Lola versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One

  • It's from 'lola versus powerman and the money-go-round', a great album.

  • One of the best. Ever.

  • It's on Lola vs. Powerman and the Moneygoround Part I. (no, there is no part II. :-))

This Time Tomorrow, from the same album, is my favorite.

  • Ohh! I love this time tomorrow. one of my favorite songs ever

  • And your video made me laugh from the very first time I saw it. Adorable! And in good taste. Well done. =^.^=

  • Have I told you yet how much I love this song!! Sorry if I didn't cause I didn't have a YouTube account early in the year. This song... I. Just. LOVE it!!! I mean, the strange feeling I get when listening to it... its such a strange feeling. But its great! And reminds me of the 60s cause they were playing around the same time as The Beatles, and I love them both! Bless The Kinks. :D

  • Wes really did something different and beautiful with The Life Aquatic. I still havent seen Bottlerockets. Is that good?

  • The Life Aquatic is my favourite of the Wes Anderson collection.

  • Thanks for introducing me to this song.

  • Great work!

You choised great pictures for the songtext... :)

    Thanks for the comment.

  • Hey! I love this! Thanks for posting this!

  • Man i've been jammin to the kinks since back in the day. they were the "other" fab four of the day with the beatles and the who.

I'm preetty sure this song is really popular among movie sound tracks. Good song :D, download more songs by the Kinks, they are kickass.

  • This song moved me to tears.

  • I must say that I agree. The song really gave the scene some spirit - the other way round too.

  • I've watched this video so many times, it truely is a great song. But it becomes that much more powerful when put to the scene in The Darjeeling Limited.

  • Glad to know. :)

I agree, when Wes used it in that scene, it was amazing. It went perfectly, I had tears in my eyes.

  • I must say that I agree. The song really gave the scene some spirit - the other way round wayy too.

  • Among so many great Kinks songs, this is possibly my favorite. It was so great to see and hear it used in "Darjeeling Limited" in the big theatre. Finally some recognition for the Kinks and this great underrated album.

  • SWEET :]I LOVE it ;)

  • this song made me cry.

  • at last!!!this song is soooo nice...thankyou soooo much for putting this on youtube,u are awsome dude

  • in Darjeeling Limited, is it a Ukelele they use?

  • well there's no ukulele in the song

or did you mean in the actual film?

  • I did enjoyed this song, and the video too.

  • Love ya Ru......

  • Superb song, have to thank Wes Anderson for opening my eyes to the greatness of the Kinks. If you get the chance, watch 'The Darjeeling Limited' to see the best use of this song to video.

  • Exactly. Wes is amazing, and I thank him so much for introducing me to great artists and songs.

I'd never heard of '2000 man', (go ahead, say it, I'm slow) until Bottle Rocket, and its now one of my favorite songs.

I've been trying to watch TDL for so long, but my thearters don't have it anymore. *tear*

Which scene is the song in?

  • The funeral scene.

I won't spoil it for you, but its up there with the revenge sequence in Rushmore, and Richie's suicide attempt as one of Wes Anderson's best scenes, in my humble opinion.

  • Oh that scene! I remember it from the script.

    How sad!

Is it really that good? I totally need to see the movie now. I missed it while it was in thearters, and its gonna be hard waiting for it to come on DVD Feb. 26th.

  • Great song from a great Kinks album, Lola vs. the Powerman.

  • it is a beautiful song...but please don't ever do another music video where you show literal pictures of what they are saying in the music. Music is art. So show us some art with it. Not clip art.

  • I just appreciate the fact that someone's put the song on here. If you don't like the pictures, don't look at them!

  • I'm just giving the guy some tips for the next video he wants to do. It probably took some time to look up all that clip art. Rather than being so literal he can take it in a different direction.

  • Yeah, uh, I'm a woman.

Doing clipart is just my style of video. You don't have to watch the video.

    Just enjoy the song.

Others like the video. -shrug- And it did take awhile, almost two months. Half of those months was searching over and over again for the song.

  • Adorable video, great song.

  • Thank you. <3

  • a brilliantly simple song, I love it, it reminds me of how even simple music can resinate so profoundly with an individual

  • Piebald did a different version...I think they killed it

  • absolutely amazing!! love it

  • Found out about this song thru the Darjeeling Limited. Wes Anderson movies have amazing music.

  • PARA TI AMALIAAAAA

  • Thanks for the creative montage of pix to go along with "Strangers", a truly beautiful KINKS song that makes your eyes well up with tears!

  • Great song! And I agree it does sound like Cat Stevens

  • is it just me or does this sound like Cat Stevens

  • yeah when i first heard it i thought it was him. then when it go to the "we are not 2 we are 1" part i thought it was the beatles

  • I LOVE IT SecretWindow1!!!!!!

  • best kinks song by far! love it!!! Just incase any of you are interested, a guy called Ben Weasel does a pretty good cover of this song on his first album. Great song.

  • awesome.
