  • people if you actually play guitar its easy to realize jimmy page is better than hendrix, not only he was a great player, he was soulfull, creative and versatile. i only needed to see the rain song tab to realize how ahead was jimmy page of all the guitar players.

  • lol

  • I am always interested in what Mr. Page has to say, so I can't thank you enough for posting this! I also appreciated that the other folks on the tape let him finish his thoughts with complete sentences, instead of interrupting him, out of enthusiam...

  • 1:00...*sigh*

    still can't believe it.

  • Probably playing kashmir...its music afterall, but yeah its not that nice seeing jimmy page on the same stage as puff diddy daddy P or whatever

  • I actually think Page was a little bit better than Hendrix. His solos always seemed more like compositions rather than just spur of the moment, disorganized, improvisation, which Hendrix's tended to sound like sometimes. Then again, most of the time Hendrix was a force of nature.

  • little bit better?? he IS wayy way way better that hendrix i totaly agree with you

  • I Love Uncle Jim....

  • GUITAR GOD

  • THE BEST GUITAR PLAYER EVER......

  • naw he's second. first is hendrix

  • led zeppelin is the greatest band of all time, it's just page wasn't as good as hendrix

  • Matter of perspective I suppose. First off, you have to determine what makes one guitarist better than the other. If you wanted eye popping solos then Hendrix was indeed a force (though check out 1973 Page performances). To me, the true mark of a great guitarist is his versatility. In that category, Hendrix came nowhere close to Page. Hendrix was a shredder but his ability to transcend into other genre's of music didn't come close to Page.

  • well put !!!

    agree

  • Absolution Blues. That is scary intro. Iremeber Steve Vai commenting how he love this tune.

  • The intro was originally supposed to have been worked out for the next Zep album. Very similar in atmosphere to 'In The Evening'. A few of the songs on that album were tunes that Page had worked out with John Bonham just prior to his death. 'Shake My Tree' was another.

  • When was this interview done? Gracias.

  • I am a huge Led Zep fan. I think the range of stuff they produced makes most bands just wither away. Bonzo's always played the right lick at the right time. I could go on . However much I like Jimmy Page's compositions, chord progressions, rifts etc. I think that a huge amount of his soloing is really sloppy and kind of nodily (sp?).Also -how much of the production value is his work? The earlier records have this harsh thin quality that sometimes makes them hard to listen to ... 1 guy's thought

  • i wouldn't say sloppy but it's not mindless either. as far as the production work, all him as well as recording writing and playing, he is the man.

  • The same exact thing could be said about Hendrix's lead playing. As far as technique goes I don't know who is better so I'll say that they are tied in that area. But as far as sloppyness, both guitarists are guilty. Page more so than Hendrix since Jimi died. But if you listen to many of their live gigs they can both sound horrendous or pristine. Drugs also destroyed both of their chops as well.

  • It is sad to consider what drugs have done to Rock and Roll altogether ,my man. While I do realize that drugs were a major influence in the music I came to enjoy. I was lucky enough to see Jimmy Page with the Black Crowes and I think I was happier to see Page looking and playing so well than I was for being at the show.(which was a great show) To think of all the losses because of drugs.

  • drugs did no such thing. that's just silly.

  • HAHA 1:06 look at hiiim! He looks, like, James hetfeild badass, the pout and powerstance. Man, if dont hate me for this, and i even type it tederily, im such a fan of his, but if he werent as 'fat' or quite as 'old', that might be the coolest little screenshot ever

  • Jimmy was techniacally a better player than hendrix, don't get me wrong hendrix revolutionised the way the guitar was played and if it wasn't for him Page wouldn't have been the success he was, however, Page's riffs were just as good as hendrix's if not better, his solo's pushed the bounderies of even hendrix's playing. And to say led zep didn't go into different styles is rubbish. They played blues, heavy rock, early metal, folk and even far eastern music such as kashmir.

  • they actually hepled the return of folk music such as stairway to heaven wich is a great song and is folk rock

  • hell they literally took the intro of stairway to heaven from a song written by a celtic folk band a few years before they recorded stairway

  • jimmy page is the man, but to say that any guitarist is better than hendrix is blasphamey. If hendrix was alive, pagey would be number 2.

  • Just Great as always...

  • the best of the best..............

  • sloppy???

have your ever heard the rain song???

  • type in white summer pler23ca

  • To make up for hack playing, Jimmy Page danced around the stage like a dorky marionette.

Perhaps no musician/performer became as overhyped by marketing men as Jimmy Page.

  • Oh. It's you again.

I'd hardly call Page "overhyped." At least he's not smeared all over the covers of the tabloids like Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, and that ilk.

  • pier23ca, I think you should come back when you've sold as many albums as Jimmy has!

  • jimmy page rox!! no wonder he was steve clarks hero! he and steve are both my heros!! they rock.

  • Jimmie Page is the greatest guitar player ever....Page and Plant forever...

  • ya jimmy page is the best.. too bad u cant spell his name right

  • Hey - what song is on the intro to this vid?

Is that Death Wish soundtrack or something??

  • Absolution Blues.

  • It's on the Coverdale Page CD, which was released in 1993.

  • The greatest guitar player on Earth... and all of the Universe

  • I almost agree who knowes whats out there

  • what king of les paul is jimmy page using?

  • He has a lot that he uses. His "baby" is a 1958 model, though.

  • Thats the one i have a 58 us import amazing!

  • jimmy page, my biggest influence!!

  • the phantom are you hi page and underrated producer hes the best !

  • One of the greatest guitarists ever, writers and a very underrated producer.

  • Page and Hendrix and Joplin and Plant should do a double duet....if only fifty percent were not dead.

  • haha y is there a fight about hendrix and page? as hendrix rocks says they have different styles and for there time they were both doin somethin completely new and jimmy page wasnt renown for a 'sloppy' style but know as a 'raw' style he just goes all out hendrix had a massive creativity in his guitar playing doing minute things that ended up sounding great etc.

  • This is gonna sound strange but he looks quite japanese in his later years

  • hahah I've been thinking the same thing!!!

  • he's like 1/8 chinese.

  • He is part Asian, his Mother is - google him.

    Great upload-thanks!

  • his great grandmother is chinese

  • I hadn't heard that, but I'm pretty sure he has some Irish in his background. His mother's maiden name is Gaffikin.

  • Why does one have to be better than the other? Can't be like the sami-ish?

  • hey man just lettin u no JIMMY PAGE IS THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!! hendrix was good but not that good

  • hahaha what?!jimmy had nothing on hendrix when it came to solos and improv, go compare their live shows. jimmy was SOMETIMES a great song writer, jimi ALWAYS was, led zep had to many shit boring stuff, hendrix was always pushing the envolope of new styles of writing

  • He looks like Brian May. I never understood that hair doo, How do they do it back comb or something?

  • their hair are natrually that curly

  • I'm impressed with the level of comments here, obviously being an influential rock-guitarist is all about the hair. If only each of us could have our hair back-combed and curled properly, we too could be famous guitarists.

  • amen aaron!

  • Page is the greatest rock guitarist of all time. His licks, creativity, different styles of music, change in tempo, the ability to improv with Zep without missing a beat, and above all, his kick-ass solos, make him the undisputed master of rock guitar. All others may be great, but none is greater than Jimmy Page.

  • I'd say Hendrix could do whatever Page did, easily. Hendrix is rythm and lead is unfaultable, so smooth. Page is reknowned for his 'sloppy' style.

  • sloppy is not a word that comes to mind when I listen to Page ..but youve probably sold millions mor records than Page has ....

  • Sloppy style???? Hmmm dont know what or where you learnt that from :D lolz

  • page was a song writer. i don't see your platinum record hanging on the wall. your guitar in a hardrock cafe. page is legendary!

  • let me rephrase for whomever said that. Page plays sloppy PERFECTION. he's so far from your conventional guitar master in terms of technical playing, that it almost sounds sloppy. This is what makes his style ohh so unique. Type in Since i've been loving you. you'll know EXACTLY what i'm talking about.

  • Oh dear, who called Jimmy Page 'sloppy'?

    I have three letters for them: L O L

  • well said man

  • timiexperience you go f*ck yourself page beats hendrix millions times over

  • why dont you shut the hell up you obviously have no clue whats going on with a guitar, they play completley different, and have different styles.

  • what's Page up to these dayz?

  • Why are they saying GADDAD?

    Don't they mean DADGAD?

  • Whats that thing he has between the neck pickup and the pickup selector??

  • want the hell is a self tuning guitar is it like a guitar that if you untune a string it'l tune its self back to standerd or something

  • dont judge pagey

  • Hehe...doesn't he look like Gene Simmons at 2:17

  • thanks for posting!

  • haha standard tuning :D

  • I hate the idea of a self tuning guitar, the whole point of tuning an instrument is to train your ears for pitch and tone. Even if you have to use a chromatic tuner, you eventually gain the ability to identify right and wrong, instead of just feeling like "something's off" Although for performing, I guess it would be useful.

  • I don't think the point, so much, is to keep the guitar in tune, but to enable changing tunings on the fly.

  • Phoenix, but if any1 has mastered tuning already, its jimmy page, its dead on no matter if human or robot is tuning it. besides its more for changin tunings really quickly.

  • don ross is the master of tuning

  • GADGAD is that what it implies? I've been playing guitar 25 years and this is a new light on for me. I'm there, thanks Jim. See ya in Miami Beach man.

  • its DADGAD - a D modal tuning - nice tuning man - enjoy

  • I like DADF#AD

  • I use this tuning for slide guitar. It makes playing slide alot easier. Eric Clapton uses this tuning on several songs on Unplugged.

  • personally, i like either standard half way down or open G like keith richards used

  • To elaborate on the last comment, each string is tuned to a different pitch and Standart Tuning is the uniform series of pitches for guitars. Alternate tunings make different voicings of chords possible and expand the range of pitches that can be reached on the guitar. What Jimmy would often do is tune the guitar to make a chord, this is called open tuning. This makes it easier to use a slide, like you would hear on In My Time of Dying.

  • im not a guitar player, so i have no idea what theyre talking about. i play saxophone, so tuning to me means to get a note "in tune" so its not sharp or flat. here theyre talking about different tunings. anyone wanna shed some light on this for me?

  • You can have more than one tuning on the guitar. There is the standard tuning (EADGBE), but it has limitations on chords to create. So you tune the strings different from the standard and it give you more chords. Listen to the RAIN SONG to hear the beauty of alternate tunings. Side note, lots of guitarist have used alt. tunings, including Robert Johnson

  • it makes what would usually be hard chords to finger easy, as the notes are on different positions. The sax only deals with one note at a time and if an altered guitar were toplay single note runs there would be not audible difference

  • LOL, "My favorite one is standard, innit'?" Jimmy is my hero.

  • Television, Cable, Satelite... What the fu*K is that!? You tube is KING!

  • My uncle told me about this. Pretty nifty.

  • oh jimmy!!! oh jimmy!! OMJP

  • god

  • i seen page and plant 2nd nov 1998 glasgow secc,it wasnt page who i was mesmerized by but michael lee,a fantastic drummer never missed a beat, the show was excellent with going to california ending in rock and roll

  • jesus, jimmy page is a god, and now that he can switch tunings within seconds, i'm afraid to say his name anymore.

  • Very nice interview. Thanx for posting!

  • i saw him live twice, once in 88, the outrider tour at the ritz, nyc, he did the double neck and wore the pilot hat, wish i had my camera. bonhams son was on drums. thanks for clarification

  • Page, Beck, Hobbs

    All the best.

  • Super upload...thanx! Love Jimmy, Robert & the Zep!

  • what song is that in the begenning?

  • Absolution Blues, Coverdale/Page

  • Pagey is such a beast. Inventing several different tunings per Zep classic.

His like will not be seen again.

  • Cool!

  • WHEN WAS THIS INTERVIEW DONE?

  • Shortly after the release of the Coverdale/Page album.
