  • Cliff is the best bass player to ever live, but Ellefson is the best bass player living :)

  • burton best musician, ellefson best baass player

  • Some1 "Tabb" this bass solo by "David Ellefson" on "Guitar Pro"!

  • ¡¡¡¡David Ellefson !!!! ¡¡Para mí es el mejor bajista del mundo!! ;)

  • Not to sound disrespectful, but cliff is really starting to become overrated.

  • @TheKovajatka true

  • what song is that at the end??

  • @danielll342 Souls of Black by Testament

  • i cant compare ! 2 bass genius !!

  • Does anyone have tabs to ellefson solo ??

  • ellefson!!!!!!!

  • Cliff!!!

  • watch?v=6O9zMnwD65Q...then u will accept CLiff's better

  • Cliff of course...by the creativity,skill,song-writing...Cliff is real deal..yah,but Dave also good too,but I prefer Cliff coz he hav more talent that rarely we found on other bassist..that's what happened...CLIFF is ULTIMATE..

  • Alex Webster beats cliff and David, check the parts he does in cannibal corpse, he's just awesome and really fast, also he has feeling.

  • @Backspacer12 Shane Lentz beats all 3.

  • They both win, as determined by the gods

  • Cliff used distortion and was badass and Dave didn't use distortion. Cliff didn't pick but Dave did. CLIFF WINS.

  • At least god killed Cliff so he could go to heaven and teach god how to play bass.

    (That's what really happened)

  • I don't really like megadeath but that's not the reason I like cliff better. Cliff may have played with his fingers and in my opinion, that is more awesome!

  • picking bass fucking sucks

  • @Dominator5515 yes it does.

  • Ellefson's solo at least was BASS

  • dave yep cliff sucks in my opinion

  • @andkoz5002 Jeez musicians are getting dumber. Everyone is forgetting what makes you the best. The more you are able to create, the better innovator you are. In this case Cliff was better. Some of the best bass lines Dave E. Played where not even written by Dave E. The get written by Dave M. And not only was Cliff a great Bassist, he could play other instruments and he knew music theory. Plus he wrote great music for Metallica.

  • @MrRoostyr There is no such thing as a better musician, the only better there is it's when you get better. Ellefson could play other instruments too, and the only bass line Mustaine wrote for Ellefson was the intro to peace sells. I used to play a lot Megadeth and Metallica, Cliff would to more fills and Ellefson would to more bass lines. They're both different styles and have different techniques.

  • @megaluisdeth Personal message.....

  • @megaluisdeth Personal message

  • @megaluisdeth but Cliff always better..thanks..

  • @MrRoostyr agreed..he way more creative than Dave...really.!! and he have real rare and different style than other bassist..that's make him the best...Dave is just like other guitarist who always use the same style..I dont think Dave easily can play like Cliff..he's 4ever..

  • @Megadethrayer very true

  • being in the category of more creative, David Ellefson

  • The only thing I really liked about this video was the "If you don't like them both, you're gay as Dragonforce" sentence. Lol'd.

  • CLIFF BURTON ANY FUCKIN WAY! HE IS A LEGEND

  • Cliff Burton,

  • David Ellefson all the way

  • watch?v=bLpmJu9RWQQ&feature=related

Take that David Ellefson fans watch that, proof cliff is the best.

  • Honestly neither of them are better than the other. This entire debate is pointless. The fact that cliff uses wah doesnt make him better. Neither of them have better technique, feeling, or creativity. True bass has slapping and feel to it. Unlike the guitar, the bass is not a shred instrument, its not meant to be heard, its meant to be felt.

  • @gdsmzroll

i'm pretty sure that you tried shredding on bass and failed miserably. A bass guitar is the most versatile instrument ever made and every sort of experimment can and should be done with it..

And true bass has feel to it..but slapping??lol

  • @gdsmzroll So what your saying is the guitar is a soulless instrument? There is no right way of playing an instrument. I used to think like you. But I love slapping, sweeping, technical tapping on bass. It's what the player feels. Fool!

  • @gdsmzroll well in the solo of ellefson have that grovie and felt just as playing with finger you just try to ignore that!

  • David Ellefson hands down!

  • @ark1671919 more like David Ellfeson, thumbs down!

  • @loonie26 reply 2my message, hmmm... i'hve no idead wat i said so, get a life

  • @ark1671919 hmmmm, fuck you

  • Well good thing I'm not some kid that is impressed by fast playing. Now, Cliff was amazing and innovative but he seemed absent in the albums. I also don't understand why you want your bass player to sound like a guitar, don't get me wrong I know how cool it is but it's not acting as much of a bass anymore. Ellefson was more noticeable in albums and does with a bass what it is meant to do. It moves you. The groovier and or funkier the bass is the better. IMO! Ellefson was better.

  • Fuck you bitches, both are amazing. Each one with their style.

  • Dave is fucking beast. But Cliff is my idol! I sometimes get watery eyed when I think about his death and I never even met him. I wasn't born yet when he died. But his basslines just speak to me that much. Besides. Dave uses a pick and that's one of my pet peeves with bass. I fucking hate that.

  • @supitsRichie But a pick doesn't stop you from being creative? I used to be like that too. But later on I realized it's just another style. When it comes to playing it's all about preference and comfort. Don't be a fool!

  • @megaluisdeth Yeah true. I just don't like the sound. The bass was originally played with plucked. So it's just a traditional thing. And dude. How fucking weird. I've checked out your channel before! You commented on a Rattlepit video! I've watched your Raining Blood Cover! You guys are good! That's so weird how you replied to my comment on a random video when I've seen your channel before.

  • @supitsRichie

David started to play with a pick because their music was so aggressive

  • @supitsRichie Personally I think a pick sounds better than fingers, it gives a more tight sound while fingers give a more loose sound. Depends what you prefer, both can sound awesome, but I just prefer the sound of the pick bass, maybe because I'm a guitarist, I atleast like to play with pick bassist the most.

  • @MasterofKnees A pick makes your bass sound more like a Guitar-Bass than a Bass-Guitar. . If you loose sound with your figers then your not hitting your stings right.

  • @MrRoostyr I'm not meaning that you're generally losing sound, the sound is more... well loose if you get what I mean. Personally as a guitarist I prefer playing with the Guitar-Bass, to me it just sounds more tight, just a personal preference though.

  • @MasterofKnees Hmmmm. Well, I think you would change you mind about all of this if you jammed with me.

  • @supitsRichie I am a bass player who has been playing for ten years. And in spite of ass holes teling you the excuses they have for playing with picks and "I used to think like that" lines of bullshit. I agree with you. You can do alot more with your fingers than you can with a pick. Any sound any asshole makes with a pick I can replicate or make it sound better with my hands. But I had to listen to so many bass players t find out those way of playing. Rock on dude.

  • Cliff!!!

  • It's obvious, Cliff.

  • davids is better :p

  • fun fact: after the concert that cliff did his solo in, James and one of his friends started throwing oranges at the people in the crowd.

  • both are great but davids solo kicks cliffs solos ass

  • @PETSKULAATTORI not true... Dave looked up to cliff as a bassist! He said so in an interview

  • @superzombiehack

i just think that Davids solo is better

  • @theycalledmebob i think every 12 year old metallica should know what real musically ability is.ive heard a really crazy solo of ellefson, but a realy great solo of burton, too. i think its not our turn to decide whos better...

  • Ellefson for me.

  • david ellefson and cliff burton are very good bassists

  • David ellefson King of bass with pick

Cliff Burton King of bass with fingers

  • @2309davidobando I like that...

  • Cliff wins because he didnt used a pick

  • @DarkMetal1234566 Just because a bassist plays with fingers doesn't mean that he's better than the one who plays with a pick. Try to play a gallop or a tremolo picking with fingers and then with a pick and you will notice the difference. Anyway, Ellefson is better than Burton and I love both Metallica and Megadeth.

  • @theycalledmebob I think it attracts both Megadeth and Metallica fanboys, obviously they don't make it to the end where it states that they both win.

  • @megaluisdeth true, i guess youre right i just wish people would state their opinion maturely instead of saying like "fuck everyone cliff is the best" or something, idk i just read the comments

  • @megaluisdeth cliff is barely and i mean barely better. its just preference at this point. they r equal!!!

  • Comment removed

  • In my opinion, Ellefson just because his tone and playing style is much cleaner and more technical and easier to understand. Cliff sometimes sounds like a ton of noise, but I still think he's amazing.

  • "then you're just a gay like Dragonforce" AHHAHAHAHAHAHHA!

  • cliff rulees!!

  • I like that Dragonforce comment in the video

  • Comment removed

  • my personal favorite is dave , but cliff wins

  • i like the david ellefson

  • Cliff all thee way!! But they both are amazing bass players

  • I think david wins

david sounds like a bass and cliff use pedals

  • @negronegroist i agree, cliff was a beast playing bass one of the greatest bassist, but he doesnt sound like bass, to much pedals like wah, bu he still rocks

maybe ellefson use pick, and so? he still kicking asses

  • @negronegroist Totally agree, sir.

  • And Btw Thats Not The Best Bass Solo Of C.B. Should Of Put His Last Bass Solo :P. But Good Job On The Video :D

  • @MAGNETMETALLICA I know, but I thought it was fair since their both opening solos for a song. For Whom The Bell Tolls and Train Of Consequences. I know all their solos I'm a big Megadeth and Metallica fand and I'm a bass player. So don't you tell me about Megadeth and Metallica! xD

  • @megaluisdeth lmao Im A Huge Metallica Fan Also And I Play Guitar And Bass xD. I can play orion on bass fingered

  • @MAGNETMETALLICA But are you a guitar player who plays bass or a bass player who plays guitar?

  • @megaluisdeth Guitar Player Who Plays Bass

  • @megaluisdeth Thats deep, man. XD

  • This Is Too Easy... CLIFF BURTON!! < R.I.P.

  • i love both bands but theres no competition in whos better

    R.I.P. Cliff Burton

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • Both of them are fucking good,,,but from these solos i have to say Ellefson

  • David is more like a reference for standard Metal style and probably one of the best in picking style. However, Burton put the bass to a new level and his musical knowledge helped a lot Hetfield and Ulrich. He contributed a lot on the melodic parts of Metallica and was one of the first to mix classical and Metal together. Before saying he is over rated, please find a bassist who can sound like him. Good luck!

  • Ellefson is my favorite. But I love cliff too!(x

  • Cliff is #1

  • Cliff was more like a third guitarist than a bassist with all his solos and distortion effects. That's not the role of the bass in a band. So, even if Cliff is stunning, Ellefson is a better bassist.

  • David Ellefson is much better then cliff ...! cliff is bullshit !

  • Probably this isnt fear cliff did only been 24 years old... but hi still kicks ass, hes the legend him selfe and if he would live today he head been world famous

  • @renesebasgg Woman, but I'll let it slide :D

  • cliff burton was a great bassist no one can say that he isnt but i think he is over rated because he is dead and people like to think of how much better metallica would have done with him you just never know my oppinion david ellefson much better than him

  • Lol @ the tags!

btw i think marty friedman wins this one! Lol

  • for me cliff is like a god and david is my favourite bass player

  • Both are gods, others who give one sided opinions can fuck off :).

  • cliff is the best.

  • @renesebasgg Peace Sells.

  • David: Master In the Bass

    Cliff: God Of The Bass

  • Cliff is better lead bass player and David is better rhytm bass player.

  • As much as I love Megadeth, I have to give it to Cliff because of the song "Orion". But that's just my preference.

  • Cliff was so original. I LOVE Ellefson, but i don't think he had quite the originality of Ciff. Long live Megadeth and Metallica everyone! and Metal Up Your asses :D

  • @npla8435 I think Burtons solos were probably more freestyle and he liked to improvise a lot, he did have a lot creativity on the solos. Ellefson's solos sound more composed, more groove in it.. But in bass lines in songs I think Ellefson was more original than Burton. Both great bass players though.

  • @megaluisdeth The thing about Ellefson is that he lives longer too, so he's had more time to get more experience as well. They're both VERY different styles and I really like both of them. I'm mostly a finger player myself, but I always keep a pick around if i want the Ellefson sound.

  • @npla8435 Well let's compare Master Of Puppets to Peace Sells. They both have wicked bass lines and bass fills on both of those albums. I like Ellefsons style more than Burtons but everyone prefers someone. Same here I play with my fingers and a pick. I have to say though that I like Ellefsons tone more.

  • @megaluisdeth Each to their own man, thanks for the vid btw.

  • i have to say david wins cause it just sounds so perfect and he plays it with agression, cliff tears ass on that bass too and plays it with so emotion i can see his right hand about to blow up

  • Dave is better

  • @kingdiamondtheeye lol what a joke

  • @IINoodlesII Hey my opinion

  • @kingdiamondtheeye only jokin

i have total respect for megadeth

  • LOL Testament at the end.

  • Total Cliff RIP

  • David is better rhytm bassist and Cliff is better lead bassist. Stop fighting.

  • Cliff all the way and even if u put Jason in there he would be way fucking better then David

  • david ellefson is god of bass playing D: and megadeth is overall much more melodic then metallica.

  • david ellefson is god of bass playing D:

  • Cliff is way better!

  • I have to give my vote to David. Love the basslines in Megadeth. Just listen to Peace Sells, Angry Again, the live bass solo in this vid, I never saw Cliff do anything like that.

  • seriously the only reason people say cliff is better is just because he played in metallica and because he is dead.

He is fucking overrated if you ask me, if he still would have lived people wouldn't adore him as much as they do now.

Don't get me wrong he isn't a bad player but he isn't as good as ellefson if you ask me. ellefson has alot more technique if you ask me.

btw same shit with dimebag he also gets adored like hell just because he is dead.

  • there is no compatition cliff is the legend and shut the fuck up noone can play like cliff

  • Great video! But to me I do not like to compare two big bassists. Burton is the God of the bass (the best) and left a great legacy to the thrash metal and music in general.

David is my Idol and has collaborated with Mustaine on big Megadeth albums, and also has left the legacy.

And today their names are synonymous of legend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @roseslashizzyduffste Well I think the best bass player from all metal is...... Greg Christian! Have to say though I like Ellefson's tone more than Burtons.

  • half of my heart is saved for metallica, the other half for megadeth, they are both the sickest bands alive and you punks should stop bitching on which is better because they are both fucking amazing

  • I think they are both awesome. Personally I'm more of an Ellefson fan. I like his style more. Cliff was a really amazing bassist but something I really never liked about him was that he IMO overuses his wah pedal in the same way Kirk overuses his wah pedal on guitar. Anyway, both amazing bassists!

  • Cliff Burton, there's no doubt about it!!

  • cliff no comparison... he played bass like joe satriani plays guitar. he was tooooo much of a bassist

  • cliff sounded cheap

  • david way better

  • both are amazing but hands down dliff burton is the better of two in my opinion cliff burton is the best bass player metal has seen

  • Cliff Burton is the best bass player and .

  • i like that text: ... then you are gay like dragonforce

  • @megaluisdeth I know they're both intros to other songs, but this solo from Ellefson seems to be the only one I ever see of him. Cliff played a lot of mind-blowing solos in only 4 years. It really is an unfair fight, not only because cliff had less time to develop skills, but also because David tends not to play solos as much. They are both legendary bassists, but my opinion is that they are too different to be compared. Nice video anyway

  • @XWhalewarsX I've seen another video of Ellefson when he has short hair and is using distortion. Well this video isn't a fight, it's just comparing their styles.

  • i like both bands equally and i like dragonforce not as much but i still like them so what does that make me??

  • "If you don't like both of them, you're just as gay as DragonForce"

So, essentially, if my opinion differs from yours, I'm "gay?" Good lord, aren't people allowed to have different tastes? Why must you be so judgmental? You're simply reinforcing the negative metalhead stereotypes. I love metal, but I believe that it's fine to have different opinions regarding different bands. It all comes down to taste and preference. I'm not going to tell people what bands they should and shouldn't like.

  • @DarthKrattus You ever see the t shirt your favorite band sucks? He's basically saying he doesn't like dragonforce but he probably wouldn't care less if you like them or not if he knew you. I rip into my friends music all the time but I don't mind them as people even though their taste is fucking atrocious

  • @GenericName86 You don't understand - my comment had nothing to do with DragonForce. I don't like DragonForce. My point was that, why do I have to like both Megadeth and Metallica in order to be some sort of "true" metalhead? He isn't the first to say that; a lot of people (especially idiots on YouTube) say that.

  • @DarthKrattus Yes people could listen to whatever they like, just like I could say what I think sucks. I never told them hey stop listening to Dragonforce. I think Dragonforce sucks but I think Herman Li is a great guitarist who's to good for that band.

  • @megaluisdeth Please read my comment - I wasn't talking about DragonForce at all. I dislike DragonForce. I was saying that you can't judge me if I like one band (Megadeth) and not the other (Metallica). Calling someone "gay" because he does not share your exact taste in thrash metal is incredibly immature, in my opinion.

  • clifford lee burton

    no doubt

  • Jason newstead said in an interview that he though David Ellefson is one of the best metal bassists thats ever been.

  • @skaterobban Ellefson said Cliff Burton is one of many great metal bass players too!

  • "He played the bass like a guitar"... Wtf? Its a BASS GUITAR! -.-

Although I like them both, Cliff was a virtuoso. He played what can be called 'Lead Bass' We shouldn't compare the 2 anyways. They're great. Legends. Gods.

  • I think Ellefson has better bass tone. His Jackson bass and him using Hartke bass amps destroy every bass tone. Cliff had a dull tone in my opinion. His sound was dry like my cheap Ibanez.

  • While Cliff was the master for lead bass parts, Junior has far better rhythm basslines. Cliff has technique, Junior has far more groove. So, they both win in their own terms

  • I dont think this is a fair fight. If you want to hear an amazing cliff solo, watch his performance of anesthesia on his last show

  • @XWhalewarsX There's a reason why I chose that vid from Cliff Burton and Ellefson. See Cliff did that solo opening up for "For whom the bells tolls" and Ellefson used that solo to open up for "Train Of Consequences"

  • me quedo con ellefson

  • cliff. there is no doubt. if jr could play with his fingers and was as fast as cliff then there would be a challenge

  • @MrCoww Ellefson use to play his fingers on back in the day. He wasn't no slow poke neither.

  • los dos son encelentes bajistas

  • I dont know why Cliff was so amazing. he could play the bass like a guitar and was a very well rounded musician. but when it comes to bass playing man theyre both legendary thats for sure. i think ellefson is slightly better

  • i would definitely go with ellefson. I like both bands, but come on there is no competition here whether u like megadeth or not.

  • As much as i love Cliff i have to go with Ellefson i mean have you heard hes stuff on Peace sells and Rust in peace? It is fucking sick. I hate the fact that people mostly see Megadeth as Dave Mustaine and look over talent like Ellefson he is just as good on the bass as Mustaine is on the guitar.

  • if i had to pick it would be ellefson alot of people think burton is better cause he was in metallica truth is if he wasn't in metallica he wouldn't have been famous cliff is overrated

  • fuck the kids who think metallica is better and megadeth sucks or megadeth is better and metallica sucks there both the sickest bands along with slayer and anthrax big 4 forever

  • ellefson! his solos are greater and more epic but burton is great too

  • 150% cliff burton you can barely see his fingers there moving so fast
