I quit college because of profs like this. Well, that and $200 books that I never took out of the wrapper... you know the books. The same book that gets a revision every year so you can't sell it back. I'm sure I made more money by the time I would have graduated than I would have with a degree anyway.
Moral of the story: Quit college. Get a job doing something that you like. Work your way up to doing what you love. Laugh at people still paying off student loans.

Here's an idea: Maybe colleges and universities hire these types of professors because they actually have the academic credentials to be hired. If he's a mathematician and understands the material he is responsible for teaching, why wouldn't he be hired? Unfortunately, there are more people outside the US who understand the sciences (math, physics, chemistry) than those in the US. Many American college students would rather have generic, non-scientific majors.

I don't know about you guys but one of the top things I look for in a professor is the ability to articulate ideas and communicate them effectively to the class. This man is clearly not doing that. I can barely tell if he was lecturing a student because they made a comment about his drawings or whether he was simply telling the class that they had homework that required drawings. I could give a fuck if this guy was Einstein, how can you learn from someone if you can't communicate with them?

But it really shouldn't come as a surprise that you are not gonna find the best of every field in a single country they come from all over the world. It's out of context and hard to judge because of that, but it seems like he's just trying to say that learning is an active process. You can't just sit there and absorb. You need to take an active interest and participate, explore the material. What he's explaining re: the equation is very simple. I don't know if the students aren't getting it but if they aren't they aren't trying very hard.
He's just saying use your initiative. You chose to study that subject so you should be interested. I wonder what that equation means, ok I'll just plot it (by hand not be lazy and use a graphical calculator), oh and look it does this and now I understand it! Put yourself in his situation: A foreign professor that doesn't speak good English teaching a class, which is probably filled with mostly dumb, lazy students, in English. I saw nothing at all wrong with this. The professor is saying "do the homework assigned to you, but for a better understanding of the material, plot some of the functions on a graph so you can get a better understanding of whet's going on". Like other posters said, American students don't want to learn, they just want to get the grades and the degree. This is one reason professors hate teaching (the other reason being that it eats into their research time).
Just another example of the mentality of Americans these days. Everyone wants everything hand fed to them without thinking for themselves and learning on their own. You should not be in college if you don't want to learn, and learning a subject is so much much more than going to class and having the professor give you everything you need for the exam.

@trident3b Wow! you clearly have never done any higher education or understand that most of the best professors are FOREIGN. Sure there are some great native professors. But it really shouldn't come as a surprise that you are not gonna find the best of every field in a single country they come from all over the world. (and yes it can be difficult to understand them at times but that is a small price to pay, and for them most the time English isn't the 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th language)

@imjinc2k I feel I was concise enough. I have experienced these types of characters in the classroom and they have not been conducive to good education. Again, he may be most knowledgeable but radiates an atmosphere that I find unpleasant and his articulation is simply not good enough. In his own language he may be brilliant. As for your gonna, that may be applicable when there is indeed not enough space. You had enough. I shall stick to my opinion and pity the kids in that school.

It's out of context and hard to judge because of that, but it seems like he's just trying to say that learning is an active process. You can't just sit there and absorb. You need to take an active interest and participate, explore the material. What he's explaining re: the equation is very simple. I don't know if the students aren't getting it but if they aren't they aren't trying very hard.

He's just saying use your initiative. You chose to study that subject so you should be interested. I wonder what that equation means, ok I'll just plot it (by hand not be lazy and use a graphical calculator), oh and look it does this and now I understand it! And look i did it myself without being spoon fed the answer, it's almost like I'm a real mathematician and not just someone gaining credits to pass a course. Worst professor? You don't even have any videos of him teaching a lesson. Put yourself in his situation: A foreign professor that doesn't speak good English teaching a class, which is probably filled with mostly dumb, lazy students, in English. I saw nothing at all wrong with this. The professor is saying "do the homework assigned to you, but for a better understanding of the material, plot some of the functions on a graph so you can get a better understanding of whet's going on". Like other posters said, American students don't want to learn, they just want to get the grades and the degree. This is one reason professors hate teaching (the other reason being that it eats into their research time).

Just another example of the mentality of Americans these days. Everyone wants everything hand fed to them without thinking for themselves and learning on their own. You should not be in college if you don't want to learn, and learning a subject is so much much more than going to class and having the professor give you everything you need for the exam.

This professor is not bad. Quite the contrary, he is good and seems to know wtf he's talking about from the videos you posted. His only down side is the language barrier. Maybe if the students actually STUDY and READ before coming to class, maybe then they could appreciate what's going on and actually be more active in class than what was sadly displayed herein.
