Matt Cameron is one of the most important/influencial/talented Drummers in the history of rock. Ask anyone outside of PJ fans who jack or dave is and they most likely will have never heard of dave and say "jack irons the old chili peppers drummer"....Matt Cameron isnt my favorite PJ drummer, that goes to Mr.Irons. But to say Cameron sucks just says to us drummers that your an idiot.
I say Dave A. all the way.....no Matt r wut.....LOL!!! Cuz wut yur all failing to recognize, or mention is...sum tymz it's all about the kick. That is why you cannot help but feel the goodness on a tune like "Breath".....The stutter kick insanity.....so tasty...say I'm wrong...you know how it is...Happy New Year!
Good version of the song. Matt Cameron's approach on drums is a little more simplistic than Dave's approach, which is a little more creative, but it's still interesting and good. Not to take anything away from Matt; he's a great drummer and could undoubtedly play the original version.
Amen Brotha! I'm glad somebody agrees with me. Matt sucks even more when he plays a song that Jack Irons originally drummed to. Its absolutely horrid!
No the popular studio version is from the singles soundtrack in 1992, one of the first songs recorded with Dave Abbruzzese. The original was recorded during the Ten sessions with Krusen, which is on the reissue of Ten. Personally I think Matt Cameron is a much better all around musician as he is a great songwriter, but purely drumming i guess its a matter of style. Dave is a better power drummer, but Matt is more original i think.
i was at this concert!! i remember having chills for the whole time it was so amazing!!!!! matt c. was AMAZING. i used to be the biggist pj fan ever. i saw them though last summer(08) and i must say...... they sucked. matt c. doesn't play any more cool off beat fills like he used to, and the whole concert was just boring. what difference 10 years makes!! but dave a. was a better fit for pj.
May I ask what show you were at in 2008 where they sucked? Saw them most recently in August 2009 and they're still putting on amazing shows (20 years into their career).
Matt is light years ahead of Dave A. and Jack. The only issue being you have to listen to Soundgarden albums to hear his brilliance. The percussion put forth in Soundgarden's catalog may be some of the best of this generation. Dave A was simple but flashy..which takes nothing away from him. Jack was just all around solid. Matt is so revered among other musicians because he does things on the kit the average music fan just doesn't pick up or understand. You sir, are one of those fans.
My first Pearl Jam show and the most incredible I've seen: Breath, Ben Harper & Ed on Indifference, Ed shimmying up the mike cord during Alive. Amazing amazing amazing. I still have my ticket stub too--I'm having it buried with me XD
Yeah.. my first PJ show too. Amazing. Seeing all the "Breath" signs on the floor then they played it. It's like a moment in history b/c they hardly play it....
Fun Fact; On 9/11/1998, President Bill Clinton finally admitted total guilt in his Sex scandal and made a meaningful plea for forgiveness at the 47th annual Congressional Prayer Breakfast in Washington.
But, this "fan request" still can't top the one from Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band's 1985 tour when, according to legend, a guy on crutches wanted to hear "Stand On It" so bad that he threw one of 'em up on the stage to make his point.
hahaha, yeah, people were doing it for 3 nights, so eddie said "you fucking cocksuckers, you're fucking bitch! you're never happy...etc..etc...you keep asking, and you know what, you deserve it. fuck it, we'll play it!"
Mike great as always, that day Matt play breath in the moment for the first time, without rehearses

no need to be such a fag about it, he is technically far inferior to Dave A. and that sir (???) is undeniable

Beautiful.
I've read somewhere about this 'request' and the history of everybody risign their "Breath" litte white papers...hahahaha.
I repeat myself once again: this kind of happening shows why Pearl Jam is the greatest band in the world - and it's fans the most insane.
