  • Sweet jesus, this is a great solo. A solo is usually either technique or soul, but this one has it all.

Too bad you cut out James singing right after the solo, it's pretty decent aswell.

  • @Kahnweiler yeah when I first recorded the clip, I just wanted the solo as a video to put on a myspace page(which I now no longer use haha).

  • this solo touch my soul....

  • john petrucci is god...........nuff said :D

  • if anyone wants to bag on JP and say he's just a shred monster with no feel, i show them this clip, and they promptly shut their mouths afterward

  • FFS i cant stop watching this clip, greatest solo ever made!!!

  • I love Petrucci hes a guitar god

  • wow!!!! john petrucci is such a god he's awesome

  • What the hell.....that made me wanna throw my guitar in the waste bin....how is he such a god :(

  • Totally Epic.. Petrucci is a monster

  • i have this dvd ( live in bodokan ) its rlly sweet huge selection of songs i also have Score and octavarium

  • most captivating solo ever, so many levels and plateaus of expression,

    good job JP

  • most beautiful solo ever played

  • Possibly his greatest live solo :-)

  • it indeed is...

  • Its damn eargasmic!

  • i'm planning on buying the album and the dvd mostly cuz of this solo (of course for other songs too but this solo definitely attracted me to this album)

  • Watch the beginning of the song...goosebumbs

How 'bout the solo on Goodnight Kiss...my favorite...

  • man~~~~ goodnight kiss is such a great song!!! i loved it when they played it on score

  • is beatiful solo big petrucci

  • I love this solo because it inc. all of the basic things you need to know, if your a guitarist: tapping legatos sweeping patterns and finally worshiping JP.

  • fuckin a, ur right, everyone should WORSHIP JP

  • o my john O MY JOHN...

  • Oh my god, thats all I have to say

  • pawnage

  • This is one of my favorite JP solo, the emotion and the technicality. Do i have to say more?

  • God this guy is so amazing, one of a kind really.

  • after seeing this I want to bear his children!!!

  • FUCKING GOD MAN

  • I love this solo

  • looked like he had a guitargasm

  • That's what happens whenever I play a music man.... too bad I can't afford one D:

  • get an olp

  • Amazing!

  • You Sir Stole my hetero heart

  • fuck you

  • WTF? Why did you all give me a thumb down?

I just said that I love this solo.

    Nothing more and nothing less.

And why did you say 'fuck you'?

Wow, you gotta be dumb, if you can't understand what I was tryin to say.

  • part from 1:40 kick ass :| .... few notes = tones of emotion

  • I swear Petrucci could teach GOD how to play guitar...He's got his own blazing speed mixed with Satch's melodies with Vai's emotional touch. Simply un-touchable.

  • "Petrucci could teach god how to play guitar"

    that's priceless XD

  • The guy down here has just drunk, don't care about him!

  • The best solo. JP is just amazing. Vai, Satriani, Yngwie ... amazing too, but John get more emotions

  • Hmmm check out For the love of god by Vai, that's pretty close to this stuff :o

  • well i dont think so,only live at anaihem 2006 "made of tears" by satch is a the same level,i cant chose one of those 2,they are the top, after john p. and joe s. comes vai, yngwie and others...my opinion

  • the greatest solo of the story of the music

  • so emotional...what a guitar hero...

  • This is the most perfect solo ever writen!! Nobody can touch this man on guitar!

  • the gestures seemed a bit overacted, but the playing was flawless as usual. maybe he's trying to change his onstage persona a little?

  • nah... hes been playing for years man...

and its too late to change his musical style, petrucci is petrucci...

  • If he is genuinely improvising, and he probably is....... and I were him and I was just playing that there and then and the stars alligned i'd be making those faces and shit...... man oh man THAT is a guitar solo, probably the best ever

  • It wasn't improv, some notes mightbe different, but he had played that solo throughout the tour. However, if there is one person who would be able to create something like that on the spot, its Petrucci.

  • FUCKIN GR8 GUITARIST......

  • I love Petrucci and have seen him play countless times but he isn't very emotive. Yes, this solo is beautiful but his facial expressions are so contrived!

  • I'm sick of all you fuckers judging a guitar legend by his fucking facial expressions. WATCH HIS FUCKING FINGERS!!!!!

  • Read my comment again. I said the solo is beautiful but his facial expressions were contrived. Why pretend? If your not feeling it why pretend that you are?

  • If you know anything about Petrucci and you obviously don't. He feels everything he plays! I actually enjoy his expressions.

  • No I agree, I love Petrucci and I'm not disputing the fact that he plays with feel, he does. I just don't like the fake facial expressions, he never really did them until recently.

  • That's not true, he's always had the same expressions, it's just that before he had really long hair to cover his face ;)

  • I guess, lol.

But they look a little fake, that's all I meant.

  • I see your point, but when you play a sweet bend or harmonic it's hard not to make a weird face!

  • Amazing Solo ! Great technique! But I only see speed in some parts, not emotion. Emotion comes from the song itself and some great phrases in the solo. The rest, shred. Is just to show the world how fast he can play, wich is meaningless to me.

  • incredible.

  • OH MY GOD ! *-* PETRUCCI LAWS <3

  • who said technique and feeling can be in the same solo this is fuckin AMAZING!

  • D minor isnt it?

  • Yes.

  • im sorry, but may i say i dont like you.

  • what/who is it you don't like?

  • may I say you're an ignorant douche?

  • Really? For me, in this solo the shred is a great climax in the solo, speed can equal emotion ya know?

  • Not agree... come on !! there can't be emotion in such high speed shred ! it's almost impossible to differentiate betwen notes in the shred. Probably you guys will not agree, but to me and many others speed will never equal emtion.

  • Then you're not being very open minded, there's more to emotion than bends and wah and slow playing. What happens when you see someone you like? Your heart speeds up. Speed can = emotion

  • I mostly agree that speed doesn't equal emotion, but in some cases a fast solo can convey emotion. My favorite example is the fast part at the end of the solo in The Spirit Carries On, by Dream Theater.. check it out if you don't know it. Anyway it makes my heart race every time I hear it.

  • I feel a lot of emotion in Machine Head's solo of Halo, that gives me goosebumps every time. This solo is also conveying an emotion, at least to me....

  • i like The Spirit Carries On solo and the song by Dream Theater aswell thats another perfect sounding solo.

  • god of guitar this band is my favorite hail dream theater

  • Best live solo ever!!!

  • damn you petrucci for making me cry to this solo

  • OMG

  • FUCKING AWESOME!! JPetrucci!! My favorite guitar player and my favorite band

  • GOD

  • I saw them live twice, and they made me cry on both concert, they are amazing!

  • One of the better solo live.

    puro feeling! =]

  • god that solo its just perfect!! btw: i liked better JP with the hair like that :P, or with the hair like the 20th anniversary dvd

  • my son today asked me if Jesus played guitar how good would he be, I said almost as good as John Petrucci.

  • Tell your son that JP teaches god how to play guitar lol.

  • Great solo as you would expect...so nothing new there. So what happened to the rest of the video?

It would have been nice to see the solo in the context of the whole song. Can't fault the solo even if I had wanted to...but the video leaves a lot to be desired.

  • Yeah man. I Love this solo =D

  • ağlıyorum lan

    petrucci is prophet

  • I mean, i feel the emotion, but he doesn't show it on his face

  • so? Just close your eyes and feel the music.

  • That my friends is playing with FEELING. Absolutely stunning. Ala Petrucci of course, the man never hits a wrong note.

  • I don't really see the emotion on his face that I may have incorrectly interpreted from your comment.Still a great solo though

  • since when does playing the guitar have anything to do with what's on your face? look at bucket head for shit sakes ;)

  • That's why I Hendrix was always the best

  • Dude, If Hendrix were around to see Petrucci today he would drop to one knee and weep for the skills he might have had. He certainly wouldn't have said, that his "face" doesn't show enough emotion.

  • Dude, the feeling comes from the music, not the face. :) Just listen. If you can't literally HEAR the emotion he puts into his playing, then you're deaf.

  • wanna cry?

    thanks john...

  • jp aint from this world - he's from above! ;-)

  • "Christucci"

  • Petrucci.. man what more to say.

my first concert ever i saw dream theater live it was the most amazing thing ever.

  • your first concert was Dream Theater?! lol. It's all down hill from there brother.

  • Petrucci is GOD

  • 1:19 - 1:30 = o_0

  • yup hes just ubër :D

  • on witch album is that song pls?

  • Falling into Infinity

  • this whole extended solo can only be found on the "live at budokon" album and dvd, though.

  • Man I can find all kinds of feelings in this solo. Most of it all I can feel that romance at the beginning of the solo. It is so impressive and romantic.

  • This is MUSIC

  • chills down my spine....Petrucci Is God.

  • Where can i find the Tabs for it? *cry

  • I cry when I hear this solo!

  • no joke man, petrucci is the lord of all that is guitar. i fuckin love this dvd. got it signed by dream theater themselves in toronto. followed by a concert

  • You lucky Bastard!!

  • i love this

  • Maybe you should wash your eyes because they were being a little sarcastic. After you washed your eyes and ears, listen to/watch this great solo.. ;)

  • Sure, Petrucci is God and all, but we all seem to be overlooking LaBrie. I mean, would John even be able to exhibit his talents without James and his mighty tambourine?

  • I absolutely agree. He can't sing and he has the charisma of a squashed donut, but hell can he hit that tambourine. Just joking, DT elitists. He's okay.

  • go wash your ears. james is awesome.

  • WOW o_o

  • that was a masterpiece!

  • This solo makes my cry...is so amazing...damn it

  • All i have to say is omy God

  • more like omy Petrucci!

  • Right!

  • He's the best!!!!

  • superb....superb...superb............

  • sure he problably laid down the groundwork during the tour, but I've heard other bootlegs as well, and they varied each time. That means it's improvised you gubers. plus. . .improvised or not that's a badass solo!

  • Grazie Petrucci....tu chiamale se vuoi emozioni!!!

  • this solo is not improvised...

  • The solo is not improvised. Sure, maybe small sections of it are, but the solo is largely the same on other Hollow Years bootlegs I've heard

  • simply awesome!

  • Aaaaiiilloooooviiiùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùù JOOOOOHHNNNN!!!!

VIENI A SUONARE A BENEVENTO TI PREGO!!! DORMI NELLA MIA CAMERETTA!!!!! SIIIIIIIIIIIIII OOHHH BEIBA!

  • Remember guys. . .this solo is improvised! Most bands take months or years to record an album, and when's the last time you heard someone rip an all out assault on every possible style of music in a short 2 minute period. BTW it's live....good luck! Petrucci is the Greatest all around guitarist in the world!

  • great style, great tone. Go Petrucci!

  • I'm starting to cry every time i hear this one

Petrucci took this one and put so much soul in it!

one of the greatest solos i have ever heard!

    Petrucci = GOD!

  • You're right. Petrucci is god

  • Petrucci is definitely one of the best guitarists around.

  • awsome agein!!

  • O__O

  • what you just said?

  • horrible

  • you don't understand

this is a great song with

  • He feels the hell out of this solo! damn that is some hardcore virtuosity right there.

  • you have to keep in mind a lot of things.I'm sure if he wanted to make the best solo in this song he would but it would prolly sound like shit. This is perfect In my opinion. (sorry bout 2 sections.. Could post for some reason.)

  • This is what I dont get.. Why does this song have to have his BEST solo ever? If any of you guys play music, wether it's drums or guitar or bass or keyboard or any instrument at all you would know that when you have a solo you DONT make it the best you can do..

  • That.F*ckin.Tone.

  • Yeah, i cream everytime i hear it. Just get a triaxis/mark iv and you'll have it though..

  • why is octavarium bad? I have to admit that it isn't the best but it isn't horrible like people are saying. My favorite albums is Systematic Chaos, Tot, and six degrees.

  • i have to response to the title and note that clapton is god, it's a well known fact.still, petrucci is one of my favorite and you won't see clapton play somthing like that.too bad octavrium sucks ass, i hope the nxt one comeing up will be any better

  • Octavarium is one of DT's greatest songs. :p I love the whole album, your opinion is wrong.

  • uhm...are u retard?! obviously! an opinion is never right or wrong! it's just...there!

nobody can judge the corecctfulness of an opinion!

I myself agree with him tho, These Walls are great but other than that, Octavarium is my least favorite DTalbum!

It's not progressive like DT used to be and it's too psychadelic...

    3 words...IMAGES AND WORDS!!!!

  • This post is exactly what Never Enough is about. 8)

  • Lol true man.

  • octavarium rules man, learn it!

  • Actually the root of shred lies in Latin Jazz Fusion guitarist Al Di Meola.

  • Well, yes and no. Yes, Di Meola was ripping when EVH was still playing drums, but I think you have to have some kind of sensible cut off, otherwise you'll end up at the guy who first picked up a guitar. Who got Di Meola fired up? Should he be called the root of shred... or whoever fired that guy up. And so on.

  • ..petrucci is god here..

  • Fuaaa! que emoción que pone el loco en ese solo, y también en el escenario. Eso hay que valorarlo... groso! =)

  • best solo ever!

  • when you think of solos that are very fast u think, wow that was a really nice solo but it wasent like, emotional, it was just a solo from the guitarrist, dry, simple and fast solo...but this solo, JP's solo, its increadibly fast, and hear it, look at it, its emotionally, its sentimental, makes you fell happy, etc. the most beautifl, fast solo ever, no dought about it.

JP is the second MAN (Mike is the MAN :P)

  • I don't know what to say about this. He DEFINATELY enters killzone mode here.

  • This solo pours with emotion. Truly the best guitarist in the world, no one competes.

  • As for "he owns clapton". That's who he'd have been copying instead of Eddie Van Halen if Ed had never existed.

  • haha, what? Petrucci sounds nothing like EVH. There isn't a single lick in this solo that I'd expect EVH to play.

  • I should clarify: I don't mean that he's copying Ed's licks, it's just that if you're a shredder you're that bastard son of Van Halen because, without Eddie shred probably wouldn't exist. Which doesn't mean Petrucci isn't good - just responding to the silly Petrucci owns Clapton comment.

  • i'd have to disagree, Van Halen was good, but i think Hendrix inspired more shredding, plus even without them, someone else would always come up with it, even if it's just some kid.
