  • It's not a weapon drop its the F18 loosing the right tail-rudder, look when the f18 turns right after the incident, the tail rudder is missing.

  • @merstrand Are you serious? Even after watching the beginning and seeing CLEARLY that the part comes from under the left wing and the right tail rudder is CLEARLY still on the plane during the whole time from when the part comes off to when it strikes the A4?

  • @COZWV well maybe im' wrong in what's it called in english but try to compare F18 0:02 to the F18 in 0:25 . the right vertical stabilizer is gone !

  • I must be an illusion :) you are right my bad !! Look in this original clip of the incident. Much more angels . /watch?v=XeAYM4XSUcY

  • @merstrand

sure its gone, but the part striking the A4 is not the part thats missing. How the right tailfin got knocked of would be real interesting... I'd say its the whole pylon that drops... would explain the flight path....

  • @Larryud45 Larry if you look at the original video it's not gone, it is just an illusion and i fell for it. /watch?v=XeAYM4XSUcY

  • @merstrand Dude... first, it's not called a "tail-rudder", it's called a vertical stabilizer. And it's still on the F-18. It's a little hard to see because it's the same color as the background, but it's still there. You can clearly see the tip of it if you look closely.

  • @merstrand Pause right at the beginning where it cuts back to the angle from behind the two planes. You can clearly see that it is intact.

  • @sam1174 so you didnt read my prev.. post

  • Comment removed

  • 1:19 you can see the pilot ejecting

  • Hmmm...we say the canopy jettisoned shortly before the end. Does anyone know if the pilot safely ejected? Be a real prick to time bang-out with the least fierce point of the fireball.

  • @K1w1scot

I think moments before the end we see the ejection seat come out.

  • @TheSpiritof1969 Yep, copy that, thanks.

  • in United States bomb goes up

  • one of the jets is a hornet and the other is a skyhawk.

  • Holy crap!!! I think I just answered my own question!!!

Do this experiment for me... pause the video at 24 seconds. But you have to pause it the INSTANT the F-18 comes into frame!!! THERE IT IS!!!!! A right tail rudder!!! It's faint, but there it is!! Then is mysteriously disappears. That's incredible!!! (continued...)

  • (...) My theory? I think this disaster was taped from a great distance, maybe even miles away, and this is totally super zoomed in. It would explain the grainy quality of the picture and also the shaky camera work. Atmospheric interference due to heat and/or distance thus making it appear as though the right tail rudder is not there. Too frikin' cool!!!!

  • No Weapon thats an external fuel tank. And i have never noticed the tail missing on the hornet.

  • It's there - but the tail fin is really thin.

  • Its a real video, I had to watch and go over this in my AMTT class, the jet was to close to the other, the lift its wings create actually sucked the bomb into it. Crazy stuff,....

  • lol the bird shape of the fire....THE PHEONIX HAS RISSEN!

  • That's how we learn.

  • @1:17 HE Eject just in time before it when boom! crazy ....

  • Rudder was there at the start of the vid, Im still looking for it lol

  • @THEMSASBOYZ

    2 theories:

    1) the rudder was angled just right that it looked like it was missing

    2) (if it's fake) it's a greenscreen, the tail rudder is reflecting the greenscreen.

  • @ 1:20 pilots canopy is jettisoned and a live seat is seen in the footage

  • Did the pilot bail out of the A4? I didn't see it

  • I'm still dumbfounded as to how the devil does the bomb pick up such an atmospheric drag to somersault in the fashion shown here...unless what it dropped was a shell that had no weight whatsoever....

  • Sir! I'm sorry Sir!

  • Combat Spread would've prevented this

  • 37 seconds in, you see what looks like the right rudder of the F-18. I think I would have ejected the instant the wing tip removed itself. First chance I got level I'd have pulled it.

  • I think this is someone's CGI and editing audition, why did the video cut from the initial shot (which was fine) to one that makes it look like the chase plane is in a very different position, and then the vertical stabilizer is missing which couldn't possibly have been hit? Also what weapon is that and why did it rise?

  • Pull up goose .... Pull up !

  • EPIC FAIL

  • originally the YF-17 cobra was designed for the Airforce. The airforce turned it down and the navy took interest in the project. After some modifications for landing on aircraft carriers and folding wings was it later named the F/a-18 hornet. The F-18 super hornet was deigned from the F/a-18 Hornet as a replacement for the F-14 Tomcat.

  • @Tallman67122 F/A 18 was not designed to replace the F-14 it was designed to replace the F-4 and the A-7. Over the years it has replaced the A-6 and the F-14 as well yet that was not its original intention. Originally it was the low end of a hi/lo mix. Just like the F-15 and F-16 was the Air Forces version of the hi/lo mix. The F-14 is expensive to operate which was why the F/A-18 replaced it.

  • @ijohneb i did not say the F/A-18 but i did say the newer F-18 super hornet. The superhornet is bigger and faster with a bigger payload then the f/a-18 hornet.

  • I said Eject 20

  • @jonesy97

I don't remember commenting on this video. I can't find a comment from me.

  • The weapon AND the wing station (pylon) were released. Probably ESJ check of some kind, but still, why would the pylon release? It's attached to the wing VERY solid. I wasn't in the Navy, but I was a Weapons System Specialist in the USAF. Strange to me.

  • no time to realize what happened and eject?

  • 500 lb. iron-encased bomb hitting a thin aluminum wing...yep, that'll do it every time!

    Great vid!

  • A successful test of the anti-T4A weapon.

  • There were 2 in the TA-4, a photographer, Randy Hepp, was in the rear cockpit. Both ejected.... and the pilot went on to make 0-6.

The photographer wasn't at all happy about losing his camera!

I think being alive would be enough for me.....

  • It's the formation they are in it creates a small vacuum that sucked it up

  • at 1:19 ejection ... quite late

  • Did the pilot eject?

  • I think the image of the right vertical stabiliser is distorted by the heat from the engines

  • OMG! Is he still alive???

  • He tried to dodge it too! xD

  • if u look closely lebron traveled

  • no bomb drop, only weopon fly test, with accident.

  • it looks like the actual hardpoint comes off!!!

  • @123Tom2 Mate this is a very famous proofing drop. As you probably know, all bombs and other objects that you can hang off a plan need to be proven fit to fly. This drop was, as I understand it, the reason the US changed its testing. The object was aerodynamically compromised by the turbulence of both planes. But was found to be unfit in and of its own design as well. There was, as I understand it, no hard point issues in this test.

  • @tina6581 Yer it looks like your right, the way the object gets caught in the air turbulence is instantly visual i was just wondering whether it was not the weapon released or the connection to the hardpoint. Terrible explanation but i cant think of the exact term for the piece of equipment that holds the weapon to the wing, for example, WING HARDPOINT-THING I CANT EXPLAIN-WEAPON lol

  • @123Tom2 As I said, as I understand it. It was determined by the enquiry that is had to do with the disruption of the air rather than any issues with the drop system on the plan mate. But you are right if the drop was wrong it could have coursed the problems. But the investigators record it wasn’t.

  • @123Tom2: Wing -> Pylon -> bomb rack -> ordinance (Missle or bombs)

  • Free Fall bombs don't do this, that weapon wasn't on the hardpoint properly.

  • this is why the government makes all bombs laser guided to prevent this stuff from happening

  • @AntDX316 What? Lol. All bombs aren't LGB's. I have loaded thousands of conventional "dumb" bombs in the MK-82, and MK-84, of all configs and variations, including LGB's. Quit making up shit, because you think that's what the answer is.

  • @jonesy97 yeah but they require flying over the target.. with LGBs they can be let off any direction really if it's high enough over the target area to free fall itself down, doubt MK-82 and MK-84s r dropped at that high altitude, the LGBs I was saying are dropping from high alt no? you should quit thinking you know how it really is when you really don't know at all dumbass

  • @AntDX316 "Know it all?" No, I don't, but about modern, conventional, and nuclear weapons, and weapons systems, I am more than qualified to tell you all you need to know. Even with LGB's, there are flight parameters that have to be followed. The cannards of the weapon CCU's have only so much travel in them. Certain altitude, aircraft attitude, airspeed, and weapon weight all dictate this, so they can't just be released in any direction, like you said. Your welcome.

  • @jonesy97 I'm guessing you don't fly the planes that drop these bombs and only arm them like a gas station who fills cars but doesn't race cars, I flew these planes that drop these bombs in simulator religiously before with all the flight stick, rudder peddals, HOTAS, 3 monitors and a TrackIR device that turns the position of the look when I move my head all on a super PC

  • @AntDX316 Ooooh, you're a PC Pilot? Well, sorry for arguing with you! Your little simulators don't tell you shit about weaponry, except the bomb's nomenclature, and it's weight. I'm just countering what you said. Drop them in any direction. Ok, how about 90 dergees off IP? Even in a toss, once the bomb reaches it's apogee, It's gonna drop 1 degree per 1000 ft of glide, even with cannards. Hard turning=shorter flight distance.

  • @jonesy97 can MK-82 and MK-84 and other dumb bombs be dropped at super sonic speeds or are for those missles and LGB's only? LGB's can be dropped at super sonic speeds? LGB's don't have to be lined up to the target upon release, as long as it can glide to the laser spot it would hit it, no?

  • @AntDX316 No. The only weapons you would employ at a supersonic speed, would be an air-to-air missle, itself designed to travel at mach 3+. You are correct in the fact of not needing precise target line up with LGB's. There's a tricky equasion called the "Hypetenuse" that a computer has to figure out, using the factors of altitude, airspeed, and distance to target with dumb bombs. With LGB's, that is a lot easier for the aircrew to get correct. The bomb makes corrections. A dumb one can't.

  • Part II. Supersonic speeds are never meant to be used in the ingress to the target. Upon weapons release, and the a/c is "slick", pilots egress the target area supersonic, and low, most of the time. My Father was a fighter pilot. Some of the old ways of using dumb bombs, was in a toss manouver. Before the popup, aircraft line up was critical. Upon the a/c pitching up, the computer decided when to release the bomb(s). There are so many ways, and facts, that I could be here all day.

  • @AntDX316 The components of LGB's can't take the stresses of supersonic flight. Besides 4 x GBU-24 A/B is over 8000 lbs. of extra weight on the a/c. If the pilot got bounced by a defending aircraft, to survive, he'd have to jettison all external stores, and evade. Either that, or take a missle up the ass. I would want to be light and fast. On the F-111F's I worked on, they have the Pave-Tac system. Laser emmission, and target computation. Great stuff. I loved my job.

  • @jonesy97 nice

  • WTF! didn't he realise that his F-18 was crashing cuz he didn't bail out which is what most normal people would do!

  • After careful analysis it was determined that BOTH wings are essential to the stability of the Aircraft. Although much cheaper to build one winged airplanes are much more difficult to control.

  • Pause it at 10 sec. What you will see is the bomb but notice the wing attachment pylon still attached to the bomb. That phylon on the bomb acted like a wing and thats why it flew out and up like that.

  • ...because you touch yourself at night and god see's it. That's why.

  • Did anyone else notice that we're mysteriously missing a right tail rudder on the F-18 at 0:24 seconds?

  • @2jzdashgte ??? didnt you see the object hit it>?

  • @mikesandytoes Nope, the "object" does NOT hit the F-18! I'm talking about the F-18 Hornet, not the TA4. The TA4 has 1 tail rudder, the Hornet has 2. The Hornet drops the weapon and it shears off the TA4's right wing tip. Nowhere from :06 seconds to :24 seconds did I observe the weapon hit the F-18. I don't know which video you're watching but in this one, nothing seems to hit the F-18 but it is missing it's right tail rudder. Watch again and pay attention this time!

  • @2jzdashgte ahh i see what you are talking about, in the beggining of the video it is there then when it is turning away it is gone, it must just be a illusion because if it was jit im sure there would be smoke or debris or flames, i think just from the angle it cant be see either becuase of the sun or somthing

  • @mikesandytoes You're probably right. It's probably the camera angle or a visual optical illusion or something but it's still weird eh? Heh heh! Cheers mikeandytoes. :)))

  • @mikesandytoes ???? NOPE!!! DID YOU??!!? I don't know what video YOU'RE watching, but in THIS video, I saw the F-18 drop it's payload and shear the right wing tip of the FA4 chase plane. I did NOT see anything hit the F-18's right tail rudder but at :24 seconds, the video clearly shows an F-18 Hornet with a missing right tail rudder.

  • @mikesandytoes sorry for the double post dude, Youtube sucks balls.

  • @2jzdashgte YES!!! where is????

  • @2jzdashgte good catch. hmmm don't the video but what gives?

  • @2jzdashgte yeah whats up with that?

  • @2jzdashgte yeah i did

  • @2jzdashgte if you pause at :25 you can see the black tip of the tip of the rudder Low quality release footage thanks declassified video standards

  • @2jzdashgte how the hell did you spot that, your a legend

  • @2jzdashgte

That's because the weapon hit the F-18's vertical stabilizer after it hit the TA4.

  • @2jzdashgte where is it???

  • @2jzdashgte I thought something looked funny. You are correct! One magically disappeared! Interesting! Think someone doctored the video?

  • @winglover1 idk but it does look it eh? weird. :/

  • @2jzdashgte I suppose the rudder just isn't visible due to lighting effect. It's almost the same colour as the sky from that angle. I would be visible if the image qualitiy was better, I guess.

  • @Zackabier Lighting effect is a plausible theory but the rudder is two tone. Black and grey. I think the black, leading edge of the vertical stabilizer (rudder) would show. Weird eh? Could this be a very good fake?

  • @2jzdashgte on 2nd glimpse I agree. The rudders' edges are painted, so the right one should be visible in any case. Curious...

  • @2jzdashgte it probably got knocked off when the wing was taken off...

  • @nRDeFecT But the wing was taken off the TA4 Skyhawk. The missing rudder is on the F-18 Hornet. :/

  • @2jzdashgte i see... hmm thats wierd.

  • @nRDeFecT I know eh? Could this be faked? If it is... it's a damned good one.

  • @2jzdashgte yeah thats some good special effects.

  • @2jzdashgte yea i was like wtf?

  • @2jzdashgte First I thought it's flow from the engine exhaust that makes it foggy, but there is plenty of time and more angles the plane is visible, yet there is no rudder. I would expect to see it at least for a moment. Maybe it is torn off too (who knows how).

  • @aleksandarrudic Crazy isn't it? It's a total mystery to me too.

  • @2jzdashgte Looks at that angle like it might've been just the same color as the sky.

  • This video made me break my personal record in thinking "Eject" the most times.

  • @theAlaunt nawwww.. he had plenty of time.. ride it out! bwhahhaha!

  • @theAlaunt All I was saying through out the entire video after his right wing sheared off was PUNCH OUT PUNCH OUT PUNCH OUT!!!

  • @theAlaunt I was thinking the exact same thing...

  • @theAlaunt yeah in the a4 situation quickly kinda sucked

  • @wwwtotaltaerde... No one gives a shit dude, maybe your brother was a criminal

  • Wwwtotaltaerde,

Take your soapbox somewhere else. What you are going on about has nothing to do with this clip.

Why do people use YouTube comments to voice irrelevant opinions?

  • @gauharjk at 1:18 you can see what looks like the canopy being blown off and the pilot ejecting to the right of the frame.

@singularitytime6 at 0:15 you can see that they're over a large body of water, but not far offshore. I can only guess, but it looked like the pilot still had a little bit of control; my guess is that he was riding it down until he felt certain it wouldn't impact on land.

  • @disorganizedorg Good point. Also he may have just panicked. Like "if i don't save this thing, i may have to pay for it !!"

  • I didn't see the pilot eject... I watch this video twice...

  • @gauharjk 1:18 see ya.

  • @gauharjk he's ejected between 0:29-0:30

  • Comment removed

  • @guaharjk - clean youre screen:

look at1:18 in the middle of the fireball you will spot the Cabinewindow thats gone and in the next second you the the Pilot came out of this Hellfire to the right whit a little Rocketfire from his hotchair ! Good Job !

  • The pilots are obviously not physics majors.

  • @nexus1g @stubbostubbs @HockeyKid118 does the word ironic mean anything to you?

  • @samuelsantana I was unaware that it was possible to land a plane with half of a wing, let alone a plane traveling probably fairly close to Mach 1 :/

  • @HockeyKid118 Google "F-15 lands with one wing". It was an Israeli pilot. It was in a training exercise when his wing collided with a F4, shearing the entire right wing off. He kept flying because he could not see the wing was torn off (due to the fuel in the wing creating a mist as it flew out), he managed to land the plane completely fine.

  • @mistamikey123455 The A4 was built long before the F15 and does not have an computer controlled flight system.

  • @Robbob9933 I knew that, who doesnt.. It does not mean they cannot fly together tho, so that was extremely redundant of you :P.

    Go google the story.

  • The more I watch this the more I reckon he could have saved that plane and landed it. full throttle, hard left rudder and lift that bird out of the roll.

  • @samuelsantana what a load of TOSS. Saved it my arse. It aint Lomac mate.

  • @samuelsantana That's what it seems like he was trying to do, but it was jut falling and tumbling like a rock. Nothing he could have done IMO.

  • heý_áÑý_gùýs_wäÑt_tõ_chát_wìth_mË

  • DO A BARREL ROLL!

  • if he only woulda rolled right

  • stupid ammericans

  • @TheTzivanas stupid faaaaggot

  • It's a bomb...but it was only filled with concrete, as it was only being used for a test. If it was a real bomb with a real payload...the explosion might've taken out both planes. Not sure about the accuracy of the show...but it was caused by a vacuum from the planes flying too close. It's precedents and "disastrous" things like this that makes things a little safer.

  • "FUCK YOU BUUUUUUUUUZZZZZZZZZ"

  • @iamaladycanyousaveme I didn't see the canopy eject until after it burst into flames.

  • @iamaladycanyousaveme yeah well, I'm a pilot but not one of those guys. I have to say, if I was inverted and lames were coming over my canopy (0 air speed) without any flight controlls I wouldn't be checking for anything or looking for anything but my little yellow striped friends.....

  • Use bombs wisely!

    Do a barrel roll!

  • TA4:i banged your wife last night, heh heh.

    F-18:motherfucke-,bang this.

    TA4: wha AAAHHHHHH..

    F-18:do a barrel roll!

    TA4:wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  • the roof the roof the roof is on fire.

    then that guy weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • EJECT, EJECT EJECT!!!!

  • I think I've seen this footage on this show about accidents like this one on Discovery Channel.

  • Did he eject?

  • I saw this in "Destroy in Second" that drop is not actually a real bomb. it's only a concrete.(if it's a bomb. did you notice the it doesn't explode during impact.)

  • 0:15 - 0:23 DO A BARREL ROLL!!!

  • ooops

  • weeeeeeeeeeeee!

  • EJECT EJECT

  • @mrlamborghini642 :

The whole clip was probably less than 5 seconds.

  • @shelba58 Yeah

  • he was trying to figure out if his dick was with him before he ejected!

  • 0:16 DO A BARREL ROLL!

  • EJECT DAMNIT, YOU'RE ON FIRE LOL

  • just to clear things that jet was unmaned jet i forgot what they were doin but i saw it on tv time ago

  • Stupid camera guy can't take his shot from 100m?

  • There goes my care package..

  • DO A BARREL ROLL!!!

  • Hahahaha, that is so fucking great! =D

  • @smilingvulcan its not a weapon its the fuel tank.

  • they were testing a new device to drop bombs from jets this was not a live bomb it was filled with concrete, it caught air wrong and hit the jet behind it.

  • Eject Eject!!!!

  • Forest Gump stars in the remake of Top Gun - You can be my wing man anytime Bubba, Bubba where the hell you gone?

  • And to add to UsedToFly1, it was a dummy bomb, full of concrete. This footage, and the story behind it has been covered in a few different places

  • WOW:0

  • I was an AO in a Hornet squadron and it looked like a pylon eject. I couldnt be sure though. It wasnt a mk series bomb or any missle.

  • 4 more and he is a ace!

  • What do you mean it goes wrong? It looks like he scored a direct hit!

  • Did he die?

  • well the A-4 pilot still has some fast reflexes

  • This crash appears to have occurred because the chase plane was far too close to the F18. 50 feet of separation would have let the chase pilot to observe without being knocked out of the sky.

  • As long as you have few thousand meters of free space beneath you, its good to wait for the plane to rotate into right direction, instead of ejecting yourself straight into fireball of jet fuel...

  • free firework

  • The reason he ejected s
