  • ..skkktch over bro ..im the worlds biggest rhoads fan..lol... shame that guitar got damages... the fire bird inspires me ..im doing one!!!

  • All of your work is incredible. I am redoing a 1977 Gibson L6-S. Back in the 80's I messed the finish up, just now redoing it. The maple body does not have the figuring that you generally see. I know they did this in a satin finish. However, I am planning to do natural with the clear nitro finish. Have you worked with this type of wood and what were your preferences as far as the finish and possibly staining the wood some other color? Thanks in advance!

  • hey what were the links you gave out for the two guys? i want to get a guitar finish redone and i'd appreciate the links. by the way your the funniest guitar builder i've ever seen, i love your videos! and i got a question for you, what got you to start playing guitar and getting serious with guitar teching? thanks!

  • add a "dot com" to the end of the names I'm listing.

    mojobodies

    mikelearn

Thanks so much for the kind words; Ace Frehley got me into playing guitar when I was very small, and Randy Rhoads was my next major influence. As far as what got me into building and working on guitars, that'd also be Randy Rhoads (and the story of his Jacksons), the hot-rodding era of the 80s, and people that I knew that made guitars as I was growing up.

  • Hahah. Sergent Boner

  • haha, one more question mate,

with the guitars i build and design, i have just been hand painting my logo onto the headstock(that i have sanded and shaped for copyright issues lolz) giving each logo a tiny difference just in case they are ever worth anything extreme :P

but yeah, how do you do your logos?

  • I had waterslide decals made in white, black, silver, and gold.

  • do bark at the moon on your fake e lee!!!!! that would be so sick cause he uses that guitar in the video@! dude i would love you forever if you did that

  • Good times. ;D

  • Hehe, your profile picture makes you look like Mr. Sixx (not from the 80's, but how he looks now)

  • hey thanks!

  • hey sully, how do you get around copyright issues by putting your name/logo on an obviously manufactured neck?

getting into building and designing axes and need a little info,thanx....b.t.w.,love the robbin crosby axe,he was the shit!!!!!!!

  • The headstock is not the same shape and size as a Jackson headstock. There has to be some kind of difference to avoid "cease and desist" letters. That said, all guitars that will have my name on it (going forward) will be of my own design.

  • They won't build me a Vinnie Vincent V >:(

  • yep...since Ed Roman owns that design with Vinnie Vincent, Jackson won't make them. There was a window of time in the mid 2000s where they'd do them, but now that Ed's got the rights to the body, Jackson won't make them anymore.

  • Yes and it makes me sad face :( Ed Roman's a dick.

  • A-GREEEEEEED! If it's any consolation, an acquaintance of mine (who's about 6'8") kicked him in the ass and smacked him upside the back of his head at a NAMM show. it was funny as hell.

  • That's awesome, did he get it on film?

  • Sadly, no. However, it's burned in my memory.

  • Oh by the way, how much did you buy that Jake E Lee Charvel for? I'm a HUGE Jake E Lee fan.

  • $2400; it was part of a 10 piece limited run. I added the signature (as mentioned in the video) and made a Jake style pickguard for it. Charvel wouldn't have done it because it was artist similar, so we had to get it close enough and then mod it.

  • Lotsa great info, especially the websites! Thanks!

  • you have some amazing guitars ive been wanting a firebird for soo long

  • thank you!

  • Robin Crosby's nickname was King. He was one of the first Jackson endorsers and they made him a custom model which was named...King V.

  • Correct! A friend of mine and I built and maintain Robbin's site.

  • That was interesting to hear that Jackson issued odd-ball stuff like that. The guys probably goofing about on a Friday afternoon maybe...!!!

  • They were a true custom shop back then; whatever you wanted...

  • Great stuff Sully! My question is - for all your knowledge about guitars and whatnot, why haven't you gone into making them full time? Like either working for a company like Jackson or alternatively starting up your own company. You'd be fantastic at it!

  • great stuff as always Sully....

Question...do you know where my socks are????

  • Doing my first complete guitar build right now! Your vids helped ALOT! Thank you for taking the time to help people! I'm a bit surprised that beautiful black Les Paul isn't done, because you don't want to wire it up! C'mon, thats the fun part! It's like breathing life into it!

  • i tell ya, i'm a ninety-percenter! in all honesty, if it didn't have the piezo bridge to deal with, i woulda wired it up a while ago.

  • hahahaha man, major boner, great.

  • Felicidades Sully, nice video and tips........Major Boner rocks \m/

  • nice headstock sully model

  • make some more vids of u playing =]
