He's not. Believe it or not, the repeating three note high thing is a cheapie Zoom drum machine (with a scale mode) playing patterns thought a wee distorted Vox amp. He just starts and stops with a footswitch. I couldn't figure it out either 'til I read it in an interview!

@TheDallyLama Really? I always thought it was pretty popular. I think the most underrated songs by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are Countdown, Deja Vu, and Blow Hard, and they're also three of thier best songs in my opinion. I guess anything by them compared to the popularity of Maps is nothing though XD

really? i think sometimes she doesn't sound great live, especially for the bigger events, but there are a ton of performances where her vocals are top notch. it just depends on the song and her movement...and maybe her sobriety. lol.
