  • Another fun fact: In the first few years they made the IHC, they were made with 88% copper, 12% nickel, giving it a "white metal" look.  This composition changed in 1864 to bronze, and both varieties exist for that year.

  • I have one dated 1869, and it truly is a beauty! It's condition could be better, but could also be a lot worse. Some few parts are faded, like the 'N' in ONE CENT and some of the letters in UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, but, again, could be worse.Other than my Indian head nickel, it's my most prized coin and I would not sell it for any amount, even if was worth much!

    Do you have any advice on how to preserve its current condition and how to keep its other details from fading out?

    umm what are the diemensions of the penny? is it like a quarter or does it take the up half of your hand? plz tell me cause ive been browsing the web and cant find the deimensions of it. thank you

    I have one dated from 1869 and it's just the size of the pennies you see today.
