I like your review and I am a big fan of Trapist beers myself. The only remark I have to make is that I would expect La Trappe to be the last choice in a review on Trapist beers, not that it is a bad but due to all the controversy around it and the debate if it should be really considered trappist or not. Nevertheless a good review about a nice beer!

Is it at all odd that every time I watch these, I want to go out and buy some beer? I wish we had more places in the states that sold some great non mainstream beers. Every time I walk into the store, all that I can see are the usal macro lagers like corona and coors. I was lucky to find some speakeasy ale in a store once. Have you tried it?
@frostybob123 thanks frostybob. Please do bear in mind that this is a simplified version of the Trappist styles - really, only half of them produce anything like this clearly delineated style - the others just make damn fine beer!
So far I've been very impressed by your professional and informative review style. Really top notch. Have you had the opportunity to try a Westvleteren and if so what did you think?
Thanks for your comment John. I have tried the Westvleteren beers, both young and aged, and I think that they are very good, although not spectacularly so. Undoubtedly their rarity adds to why they are regularly named as among the best in the world.
Good, informative review. Well done! Please feel free to join us on the Aleuminati - a community of like-minded beer aficionados. We'd enjoy your insight.

Having tried the La Trappe triple and the quadruple, I have to say I like the triple best... the quad has a too distinct alcohol taste to it.
To me in a good beer, the range of flavours should mask the alcohol content.
The La Trappe quadruple didn't manage to do that very well, the way other >10 % abv. beers do, like f.i. Rochefort 10 or Westvleteren 12.

Thanks for your comment. Too bad you can't get Chimay, although Unibroue do make some very fine beers in broadly similar styles

Great video! Very informative. I've yet to dive into the world of Trappist Ales, but now I have some more info about them. Time to give them a try.
