That's great Front Row! Those were the days! Real men on the screen instead of the girlie-men we have as so-called leading men today. Men who cared about the example they left off stage as well as on. And women were ladies. Wish I could turn the clock back.
I had written to Yakima Canutt for an autograph. I sent him a couple of old vending machine postcards of him as a young cowboy star of the Twenties. He not only sent me back both cards autographed but under separate cover, two montage posters of his movie and rodeo career both autographed. The stunt shown was also done by him in Stagecoach and in the Republic serial, Zorro's Fighting Legion. The stunt was revised to use a Army truck in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
He directed the chariot race in Ben Hur. It was WIlliam Wyler's picture, but only Yakima Canutt could manage that sequence as great as it was. I personally think he was the greatest stunt man and action director in Hollywood history and this is a nice tribute to him.
