look at 4:31 during the drums solo, he is not doing the same solo of mike portnoy and i prefer this one, i have tried it and this is really hard to do but this is possible even that^^
make a rythm with a hand and a différent rythm with the others, only perfect drummers can do that!^^
@rushrulez1 remember at the toronto show when they DIDN'T play this song... I'm upset seen them 4 times and yet to hear this (my favorite) song by them
Awsome tune and an awsome performance. Hey, does anyone else find it disturbing that I have to see an Obama ad when viewing youtube videos? Is this how low this man has sunk?
Just wondering, does Mangini play those two bass drums on each side? I'm not a hater, in fact I've been a fan of Mangini since before he landed on DT...
@anthrmthrfckr Ya he does. His kit is KIND of set up like Mikes. His set is almost symmetrical tom wise and i think he has different snares on both side as well as the main one and the auxiliary snare in the front so if he wants to use the high kick he can turn to his right and play that and still have somewhat of a smaller type kit for maybe a riff that he wants a smaller kick and different snare. Same thing goes for on his left side which has a huge kick.
Can everyone stop comparing MP & MM! They're amazing artists/ drummers in their own rights! Mangini is.. or was....not too sure, a tutor at Berklee.. he is multiple genius'... or a genai.. (plural of genius)! & Portnoy is a mint song writer as well as a technical player constantly exploring new horizons which I admire, it's enough said that MP was self taught as well!
@Gyro911 Yeah, especially since it's 9 minutes. Those crazy 80's TV shows with their ultra long intro songs released three years after the decade ended!
Dream Theater not just only group of musician plays complex music but more exactly a group of talented people from musician, tech, lighting engineer, management.. I said this because i've watch behind the stage in Chaos in Motion DVD
Not really sure why people are saying it doesn't sound the same as Portnoy when it's EXACTLY the same as his parts and Mangini even sounds like he's added a couple of newer fills. In my opinion, you can't make this song sound better then it does right here
@HommatTulilla God you are an idiot... How can you say that?? Clearly you know NOTHING about drumming nor progressive music. Think before you comment man.
@mrbeat1988 Mike Portnoy is an excellent drummer, but he's nowhere near the pedigree of Mangini. Mangini is a master percussionist, can play any combination of time signatures against eachother, flawless technique, immense musical depth, and comprehension, and great style and feel. None of which Portnoy could lay claim to. Portnoy is great at odd time sigs, "quads" and "ruffs", and over-playing, often out of context. No comparison to Mangini.
@danlc95 If you read my comment, I never compared them in any way. Sure Mangini is a beast drummer, never said otherwise, but Portnoy WROTE this... That's it. I haven't seen any drummer write drum parts like MP, at least not yet... THAT my friend, has no comparison.
You know, some say Labrie sounds like a rooster. But what if he does? I guess a rooster can be trained at an operatic skill level. If he's not the best, he's one of the best.
doest matter he sound a bit better now , he still has that rooster screaming voice , DT would be a much better band without him . DT has the greatest music sound , if they had another singer im sure they would be a much better band.
saw them in Wolverhampton too :-) in Oct 2005

Mangini is an amazing drummer, but I don't think he plays with the same clarity as Portnoy, I would of liked to see Donati replace him.

The only thing I dislike is MM's snare. Don't know if it's because of the camera, but I find its sound not as much energic as MP's :/

@MetalOnPiano after 20 years of singing high as hell pitches and NOT lowering the pitch as he grew old kinda takes it's toll.
he's older and is STILL hitting the notes he originally recorded, maybe with nto as much grace now but he's still a behemoth.
