Love this song it's amazing, but I heard the Liam Gallagher vocal version first and to be honest I prefer the slower melodic tone of that version. Both are great, but there's something more dreamy about the slower version.

@damnedlikebeauty I agree, but the sound has a more clearly dark vibe to it than the vast majority of Jam songs. "Butterfly collector" is the same way. I didn't realize how gloomy the lyrics were until now and I've loved them for 14 years. The images are appropriate, even if they sound nothing like Bauhaus.

One of the most under rated Jam songs (well I think it is anyway)...just added a bit of a twist on it....that is in the info on this video....obviously you and embeebutterly didn't read it....as for MOD...The Jam were born out of the punk era. I was a big fan of theirs and Northern Soul not just Goth music...we are all allowed opinions and are allowed to express them freely, this song is about the darkness within a person not a walk in fairytale land
