Don't understand me bad. I have great respect to France for Napoleon (who was trying to liberate Poland-Lithuania) and for gen. de Gaulle, but you had left us without any help in 1939. Germans hadn't had any soldier on western borders-whole army had gone against Poland. Your attack could change the history, but you had prefered "sietskrieg"...
@SlavicWolfPL You Polish forget, that a few months ago in French newspapers there was an interesting announcement. French ministry of foreign affairs told, that in the 1920´s and 1930´s poland one time per month asked for war on Germany to win Schlesien and Pommern and Ostpreußen. Think about your polish politician Mr. Dmowski who postulated the Oder-Neiße-frontier in the 1920´s!! Do not play the part of a peaceful Poland. This would be a lie. Also you do not loose 6 millions inhabitants!!
@SlavicWolfPL Poland did have 31 Millions inhabitants in 1931. In 1945 there were 23 Millions inhabitants.8 Millions less. 3 Million killed jews, one millions Germans (pulled out by the polish) and perhaps 4 Million in the east of Poland (189.000 qkm) that were stolen by the SU. 4 Million of ukrainian, bjelorussian and lithuvanian. Think yourself.
Compare those numbers with polish in September Campain: Poland had lost more soldiers, and lost over 6 millions of its citizens. There wasn't anything like Vichy Gouvernement, and there even wasn't official capitulation of Poland. For Nazis we were "subhumans", animals, when Frenchmen weren't for them "worse race".
Of course, many of french soldiers were fighting, but there were many of guys which after the capitulation celebrated "the end of war".

Knowing the orderly fashion of a military salute in the German Army it is almost funny watching the way the officers present their greetings in the above video: For the Nazis at that time it must have been just a provocation to see these Wehrmacht officers stating their military salute in such chaotic ways.

What a nightmarish, painful and humiliating sight for the French. Paris - one of the great cities of the world, and capital of great nation - seeing its famed boulevards serve as a parade route for the victorious Germans. That had to be a gut-wrenching experience for the French. It must have seemed like the end of the world for them. In June '40, there was no one to rescue them and wouldn't be for 4 years. @MaLoDe1975 I think you got it perfectly right in noting how France tried to punish and humiliate the Germans after WWI. This took a lot of nerve on their parts, as you note they had only "won" the war with help from the other Allies (Britain, Russia and to a lesser degree, the US). One would think the abilities of the German people to bury France militarily and industrially would have been clear by 1918, yet the French kick their defeated neighbor while down and would pay dearly for it.

German gov. had no other choice and couldn´t wait for the fatal day being attacked in full strength by the "Russische Dampfwalze" while being occupied in struggling with the british somewhere else.
The Germans paid homage to their fallen enemies, as you can see in the beginning of the video. The allies and the bolsjewicks never had the dignity to do the same.
The German POW concentration camp deaths were seven times higher than German death in Allied camps. After the war the USA fed Germany and restructured its manufacturing base at the cost of billions of dollars.
Now that is respect.
The Germans enslaved their conquered. They even had a torture chamber under the Eiffel tower.
sorry for my last comment,it was a drunk idiot who wrote that, i know the french suffer a lot for the german invaders, i really admire the french people for their bravery vive la france!!!
At 2.09/10 a soldier at the end of the 5 row from the left seems to stumble but manages to stay upright. On "google earth street view" at the exact point where he stumbled is a seriously uneven row of cobblestones which looks like they were there in 1940. They are just behind the black mini car near the centre of the road. I should get out more... lol
The man on the horse is General Kurt von Briesen reviewing troops of the 30th infantry brigade. He will be killed next year in Russia. Most of the troops will die at Stalingrad, and the rest will be held in captivity in Siberia where a lot more will die. The survivors will be released into East Germany in 1957. @Spark02ify which week Germans? The Bavarians? The Saxons, the Prussians? In Napoleons times there were no germans! And Napoleon is much more important for Germany than for anyone else.
Hitler didn´t tried like Napoleon but he failed like him.
You just underestimate Germany like most of the people in this world. You know dogs that bark do not bite.
@Spark02ify BRD is weak it´s a democracy xD anyways it´s the fault of France UK USA and Russia that we haft become a soft power. I hope to see the day we become our selfes again before i´m dead.
@Spark02ify No, this is also partly because Germany was far less affected by war damages than its neighboors. Since its unification, Germany was a very advanced country and did never take as damages as its enemies, even when those won the wars. When the US gave the Marshal money to Western Europe, Germany's rebirth was inevitable.
@swpaul04 This is exactly the reason why Hitler undergrounded his most important industries. Furthermore, besides UK and USSR, Germany was the only country that was still running its industry, the others being invaded. Germany took a lot of damages but its industry didn't have to be re-launched since it was still working in 1945.
German respect toward the defeated enemy. In consideration for the French soul Hitler has forbidden the march through the arc de triomphe. 4 years later the germans paid with millions of their lives. The French, English and American had another sight of knightlyness.
After reducing dutch cities to rubble after they surrender, and bombing eastern french refugees,we had all the insight we needed to know your Knightliness.
The soviet army losed only because we wanted to attack and beat the enemy on foreign territory! if we weren't prepare for defence. in other way we'd kick your nazi's asses(but really we did))))))
@VRIESSS Germany got nearly the same Military budget as France or the UK but use less than 1.5% of the country's GDP thats much more less as France and UK. Germanys economy is much stronger as any other europen nation, others are not even far in his near. There are15747493 fit for military service and could be armed in nearly 2 weeks. The german army is maybe not big but there is no country in EU that could do shit to germany
@VRIESSS wow...that was the best fantasy shit i've ever heard. If the US would have another war against germany it'll be a hard time for both. The german army is extremely powerful (after 66 years without wars you can think it)
@Dominatorxxx Wrong, Germany of today isn't a nuclear power and is already full of US military bases. Since 1945, Germany cannot be a military major power, just like Japan. That was the will of the Allies.
@VRIESSS The JEW US is in Germany cause the Jews knew that Germany had the pretrial to rise up again. They were right,Germany is the European nation that holds the key to the EU. Jew US and multiculturalism was to prevent Germany from raising up again. If I had my own way,I would tell JEW US to GET OUT OF GERMANY. The US has not business in other countries. LONG LIVE GERMANY 1939-1945.
@VRIESSS IF not for GERMANY, the USA would had never become a power house. The US is a freeloader that sponges off Germany. This is another reason why the Yanks will never leave Germany.
Czech Republic-Small republic next to germany. did you hear about Munich pact? that was conference 1938 Hitler wanted our land as gift for dont starting the WWII. Hitler ocupied our land 7 years and start WWII just 2 years after Munich. Ironical isnt it? Our land was sacrified for nothing...
Hitler was ASSHOLE and germans probably too when they follow him...
hey listen buddy, America may have it's downtimes, that's to be expected. We have a democratic system and in that system there are winners and losers, and it just happened that Bush was the winner, that doesn't mean we all talk with a heavy southern accent smoke weed and fly for the national gaurd. In fact we win most of our wars that we fight in. So we may be assholes, but just remember that we are winners to the very core.
DIdn't they lose to vietnam aswell? lol and in mexico's case, was still recovering from the war against spain and had a retarded dictator controlling the country back then and did'nt at least get the army to obtain new weapons for that era, too bad that time machines don't exist.
Well, the Germans were just as good at surrendering. In 1792, at Valmy, the mighty Prussian army ran away from the amateurish French republican troops. In 1805, it was defeated in ONE day by the French. At the Marne in 1914, we captured 1,000s of drunken Germans in Champagne. In the Summer of 1918, 100,000s deserters were missing in the German army, before Germany surrendered. Millions of Germans surrendered to the Russians and Allies in 1943-1945. Keep bragging...
Wonderful, my, I had to be born at that time and have experienced this great moment as a real soldier. the Germans should win the world and stop this crap than this.
Honour to all brave soldiers of all countries. Yet don't fool yourself: While these images are evidently real, they were carefully shot, selected and commented, so that they carry loads of propaganda. It would be very naive to believe that, under the Nazi regime, any newsreel could be free of propaganda!
Part 2: (marching) "A parade across the (French street Name, dunno) ends this hour of distinction." (music, more marching) "Leaders (he sais "Führer" but he means the military officers, like captains who are the "Führer" of their Squad or Regiment or whatever) and soldiers are closely connected. They compose a single big comradeship, which proves its worth in the fighting and winning again and again." (musik) -- Thats it, hope it helps for you non german speaking people ;-)
The Wehrmacht/Newsreader says: "At the grave of the unknown soldier in paris, german officers demonstrate their testimony of honor to the fallen enemy, who had put up a good fight. (French people) Generalleutnant (Lt.Gen) von Briesen(?), who got seriously injured in the Poland campaign and, after his recovery, again assumes the command about his division, decorated, in front of the arc de triomphe, the bravest men from his regiments with the Iron Cross first Class. (Musik)
Whenever I'm feeling down, all I have to do is think of how the arrogant French imperialists had their murderous hearts broken when the Germans entered Paris. They got a little taste of how the Algerians, Vietnamese, and others felt under the French Empire.
These clips are valuable; most of the histories are thoughtlessly written from the "top down" - from the perspective of people who ignore the details.
If you're patient, recommended: Paris After The Liberation, by Beevor & Cooper (1994 Doubleday; editor s/be fired!)
in the begining of the vid it shows flowers on a memorial and a service, that was to commemorate the dead french troops that died defending france, with locals and the german army honoring.
ps been to france recently? wow it is in turmoil, so is most of europe, ppl are scared to g out at night. ironic
I live in Paris, and I can tell you we can stroll anywhere at midnight. I wouldn't say that of NY or Washington DC.
The ceremony shown at the beginning of the video is a German military salute to the fallen ennemy of the previous war. A propaganda operation to show how chivalrous German soldiers were. The local Parisians look desperate, understandably.
I agree with 2red... It was the biggest Hitler's mistake to open the eastern front. Hitler should have defeated England or reached an armistice before attacking the ex-Soviet Union. But his megalomaniac personality blinded him and did not remember the fresh history of the WWI. That happens with the Dictators!
The mistake was Mussolini! Hitler told "Mussolini's disastrous war to Grece was a discrace for Germany: to intervene to help him we had to delay operations in Russia and so we were entangled with freezing cold"
I guess my friend that you are a little confused about dates. Even it is true Hitler never agreed with Mussolini on his Greek campaign; it is also true that campaign with german help ended in April 1941. The Operation Barbarossa was initiaded on Dec 1940 when Hitler signed the EO 21, and It was carried out in June 1941 quite after the Balkans operations had finished. In his crazy mind Hitler never thought that England hadn't been defeated and his Unternehmen Seelöwe was ended in a failure.
28 Oct 1940 Italy invaded Greece but was humiliated. Hitler planned Russia's campaign on 15 May but postponed it to June 22 to rescue Mussolini and unwillingly invaded Greece on 9 April 1941. He complained with Leni Riefenstahl : " If the Italians hadn't needed our help, we could have anticipated the Russian cold by weeks and conquered Leningrad and Moscow. There would have been no Stalingrad".
What you comment friend, confirm that was a great Hitler's error attack Russia cos' that "help" to Mussolini, force his Armies to enter out of the planned schedule for that purpose. At the end, as you say, the terrible russian winter froze the german attack and started the begining of the 3rd Reich end.
No. It had little to do with the winter. Germany lack the resources to defeat the USSR. If the oil fields in the Caucasus were captured and Stalingrad taken or ignored, the war would've been won no matter how many winters.
The war had to be waged since Stalin had already drawn plans for invasion as early as 1937-38. Furthermore, the USSR was growing in strength far quicker than Germany and Germany could never win a defensive war.
I know a french guy who said "us french won the second world war for the allies" I laughed in his face :P LOL then i showed him this and he almost cried

I see them as mass suicide marches, which in reality is exactly what they turned out to be.
Upwards of 95% of all the soldiers in these films died very gruesome deaths. :)

Smile while you can boys.

I do not want to be naughty with you but today, Germany is a soft power that puts its security in the hands of foreign countries.
The third Reich which put more than 42% of its GDP for his army, it's over moreover his army isn't professional
The only two real military powers in Europe are France and the UK
Spark02ify 1 year ago
@Spark02ify BRD is weak it´s a democracy xD anyways it´s the fault of France UK USA and Russia that we haft become a soft power. I hope to see the day we become our selfes again before i´m dead.

It's the fault of Hitler

Spark02ify 1 year ago
@MsMalaka123
And because of USA (especially) Germany is the first economic power of Europe
Spark02ify 1 year ago
@Spark02ify No, this is also partly because Germany was far less affected by war damages than its neighboors. Since its unification, Germany was a very advanced country and did never take as damages as its enemies, even when those won the wars. When the US gave the Marshal money to Western Europe, Germany's rebirth was inevitable.
Zamensis 1 year ago
@Zamensis What? See the Berlin Airlift!
swpaul04 1 year ago
@swpaul04 This is exactly the reason why Hitler undergrounded his most important industries. Furthermore, besides UK and USSR, Germany was the only country that was still running its industry, the others being invaded. Germany took a lot of damages but its industry didn't have to be re-launched since it was still working in 1945.
Zamensis 1 year ago
German respect toward the defeated enemy. In consideration for the French soul Hitler has forbidden the march through the arc de triomphe. 4 years later the germans paid with millions of their lives. The French, English and American had another sight of knightlyness.

They were right,Germany is the European nation that holds the key to the EU. hey listen buddy, America may have it's downtimes, that's to be expected. We have a democratic system and in that system there are winners and losers, and it just happened that Bush was the winner, that doesn't mean we all talk with a heavy southern accent smoke weed and fly for the national gaurd. In fact we win most of our wars that we fight in. So we may be assholes, but just remember that we are winners to the very core.

nukethefridge1982 2 years ago
Well, the Germans were just as good at surrendering. In 1792, at Valmy, the mighty Prussian army ran away from the amateurish French republican troops. In 1805, it was defeated in ONE day by the French. At the Marne in 1914, we captured 1,000s of drunken Germans in Champagne. In the Summer of 1918, 100,000s deserters were missing in the German army, before Germany surrendered. Millions of Germans surrendered to the Russians and Allies in 1943-1945. Keep bragging...

An impressive film. Although we overwelmed in this glorious days the treaty of Versailles, we honoured the enemy.
Danke, Deutsche Wehrmacht! This is no propaganda, this is a fact of German manpower.
Hail an honour to all brave German soldiers.
runenwurf 2 years ago 4
Honour to all brave soldiers of all countries. Yet don't fool yourself: While these images are evidently real, they were carefully shot, selected and commented, so that they carry loads of propaganda. It would be very naive to believe that, under the Nazi regime, any newsreel could be free of propaganda!
Fridomfry 2 years ago

(Musik)

I love this footage. Classic!
Whenever I'm feeling down, all I have to do is think of how the arrogant French imperialists had their murderous hearts broken when the Germans entered Paris. They got a little taste of how the Algerians, Vietnamese, and others felt under the French Empire.
Puts a smile on my face!

"scared to go out at night"???
I live in Paris, and I can tell you we can stroll anywhere at midnight. I wouldn't say that of NY or Washington DC.
The ceremony shown at the beginning of the video is a German military salute to the fallen ennemy of the previous war. A propaganda operation to show how chivalrous German soldiers were. The local Parisians look desperate, understandably.
Fridomfry 2 years ago 2
I agree with 2red... It was the biggest Hitler's mistake to open the eastern front. Hitler should have defeated England or reached an armistice before attacking the ex-Soviet Union. But his megalomaniac personality blinded him and did not remember the fresh history of the WWI. That happens with the Dictators!
Arcan6121 2 years ago
The mistake was Mussolini! Hitler told "Mussolini's disastrous war to Grece was a discrace for Germany: to intervene to help him we had to delay operations in Russia and so we were entangled with freezing cold"
Acsdg118k 2 years ago
I guess my friend that you are a little confused about dates. Even it is true Hitler never agreed with Mussolini on his Greek campaign; it is also true that campaign with german help ended in April 1941. The Operation Barbarossa was initiaded on Dec 1940 when Hitler signed the EO 21, and It was carried out in June 1941 quite after the Balkans operations had finished. In his crazy mind Hitler never thought that England hadn't been defeated and his Unternehmen Seelöwe was ended in a failure.
Arcan6121 2 years ago
28 Oct 1940 Italy invaded Greece but was humiliated. Hitler planned Russia's campaign on 15 May but postponed it to June 22 to rescue Mussolini and unwillingly invaded Greece on 9 April 1941. He complained with Leni Riefenstahl : " If the Italians hadn't needed our help, we could have anticipated the Russian cold by weeks and conquered Leningrad and Moscow. There would have been no Stalingrad".
Acsdg118k 2 years ago
What you comment friend, confirm that was a great Hitler's error attack Russia cos' that "help" to Mussolini, force his Armies to enter out of the planned schedule for that purpose. At the end, as you say, the terrible russian winter froze the german attack and started the begining of the 3rd Reich end.
Arcan6121 2 years ago
ElysiumFilms 2 years ago
Hitler's biggest mistake was thinking he could win a ground war in Russia.
