Perhaps he finally got it right in one of the THREE "Sitting Waiting Wishing - Jack Johnson EXACT STRUM" vids he subsequently posted after I made this one...

But we were talking about the pattern used by Johnson on the album release of the song...the strum pattern you hear on this video IS the intro from the album itself, once at a slower speed and twice at normal speed.

Not only did I allude to the fact that DU and DD are essentially the same thing (mentioning preference), but I also clarified about the "grate" mentioning how it is a quick stroke added in between the actual chords.

The "grate" you mention is what makes for the extra DU stroke, but yes it is only between the chords, not before the first one. (something I had also mentioned.)

For those of you who don't read the video descriptions, this is supposed to offer a slowed-down audio of the strum pattern. As you can see by the title, this was a response to the video lesson posted by fgtm.

He uses a different strum pattern than Johnson does on the album (I believe he just got it wrong) and I thought it might confuse people trying to learn from the album.

He deleted my comment on his video that mentioned this, and de-linked this response vid from his.
