Actually excited for this, Despite the fact that the actual "Clutch Cargo" style faces on the puppets look kinda.. cheep. I still do want to see this, after all Gilliam is a genius in his own right, and I get the humor he is conveying.
I love the work of Terry Gilliam, and I have been a devoted steampunk fan for many years, but unless some major changes are made this movie should never see the light of day.
Terry Gilliam is the American member of the Monty Python team. This is supposed to look like this...It's called artistic license and Gilliam is the best at this type of art.
If it's realism you want or high rez CGI then you need to go watch something else, because you probably will not be able understand this kind of comedy at all.
Wow, the graphics for Bioshock Infinite are worse than I thought, lol! But seriously, Terry Gilliam is a visionary, I'm sure this will be another welcomed addition to his surreal filmography.
Love Gilliam films, and I love the premise behind this (I'm all for more steampunk movies, curddy or otherwise) but the puppets look very out of place most of the time.
There's some great imagery in this trailer, but for me the puppets don't gel at all. Tbh this trailer looks very basic, maybe even a demo to sell the idea. Perhaps the real movie won't look like this at all... hopefully.
@delryn256 Actually, I think the puppets should be replaced with flat paper models (like South Park) or animated to look like paper a la the animated segments in Monty Pythons (except more detailed obviously). It would fit in well, and lend even more to the Monty Pythons flavour this already has.
The "puppets" should be full CGI if there is a feature film. As it is the puppets look super shitty compared to everything else in the picture and the filmed mouthes are distracting.
"a script of mind boggling ingenuity"? "hilarious comedy"? Not from what I saw. Not at all. It's a great idea but the aethetics and script need more work before it should be a film. There was NOTHING FUNNY at all in the piece. And a whole 90 minutes of that blustery talk will give me a headache.
1. The filmaker should get Terry Jones to write the script. He did a great job with The Starship Titanic.
2. They should shoot it in 3d so you can watch it with blue red anaglyph glasses.
As a short it's fun- but as a movie? The aesthetics are truelly dreadfull. The puppets are horrible and waste the work that went into everything else. The steampunk stuff is blocky. It is hard to figure out what you are looking at in the most impressive shots. It doesn't look terribly funny or interesting or dynamic. There is a lot of nicer steampunk inspired art out there. As a small piece for niche festivals it will get played but I doubt a theatre or tv station would play this.
This is so cute and so funny. I love this video. It is at a time like this that the true British hero knows instincly what he must do, inwardly panic.
Very nice. Though I noticed a bit of the soundtrack to "Where Eagles Dare" in there at "3:24". I'd be really careful using music like that (unless of course they got permission to use it).
@adamhowe2409 : thanks for the publicity, it's always nice. This was the older trailer, done by the director Tim Ollive in his kitchen !! Now there's the new trailer on youtube "Terry gilliam presents 1884 yesterday's future" : as you'll see, artistic and technical work has been done, but the story is still the same, and funny like no other !
Jesus christ. They had to add in America to this.

You all suck at humor for not catching that. Did you wonder why the americans looked so unbearable?

quite clumsy and ham fisted by the looks,
perhaps people who are very tense and hung up about their Brtitishness may get a laugh out of this (?)

I don't think they've even started production yet. This was just made to show some of the effects that would be used in the final film.
