  • FAR OUT MAN !!!!!!!!!!

  • Today, San Pedro works quite well :)

  • Anyone remember mescaline? Double barrel purple? Mix that with this song and wow what a trip!!

  • @ThePanzerfaust45 We called it purple barrels. Strawberry mesc ruled. Orange dots. Paper mesc. Orange sunshine. Purple haze. Shrooms, for the organic fucks! Cannabinal rubbed on yer papers. Hard black hash smoked off a pin under a cup. Tar. We lived, did'nt we?

  • Monky Man Another Amezing Song By An Amezing Group

  • Luv this album this song is so Amazing.

  • This is the direction I wud of liked the stones to have to followed. But every trip must come to an end I guess. So I just kept listening to Pink Floyd. Oh bye the way which one is Pink?

  • THIS IS ->L S D<- ...AAACIIIDD!!!

  • The closest song to pink floyd maybe ... (and a little bowie?)

  • ... flashing ... back ....................

  • @The World...Long Live PSYCHEDELIA!!!!!

  • Along with the Weed & papers, pick you up some White Lightnin' liquid LSD, straight from Hoffman's lab....like they had...I think you'll clue in to it! Peace Out!!

  • Fantastic.

  • This song is the stones' acid trip.

  • Quite simply ....this is the Stones' "answer" to the Beatles' "Magical Mystery Tour"

By the way... on the song "She's a Rainbow" from this album John and Paul are singing the "ooh la la ooh la la la la" parts in the background.

  • Stones were ahead of their time maybe?

  • @mark1952able More like right on time.

  • When this is over and for a total turn around, punch in 2120 South Michigan Avenue by the Stones. It's a real toe-tapper thats from long ago.

  • In OKlahoma in the 67winter, days were spent Imagining whart a Trip was Like?Listening to this Song , 2 color Prizum Glasses on Had to Do, Till I got" sunshine" from ToplLess Dancer,of Backgate Clubs!,,,,,,,And I wasn't disapointed ,get out the Black light & Glow Paints,"fasten your seat belts Please,",,,,,Imaginmed I came from ALakazam, Like Mick said

  • INNER-X-MUSICK HAZ''''2000 LIGHT YEARS''..._(16 min version ov this) A UK PROMO FILM TRACK....AMAZING QUALITY!! see also SLEEPCHAMBERS versions ov "THE LANTERN"">>>MONKEYMAN>>>STRAY CAT BLUES>>>and other great covers....

  • When this album came out, this is the cut I went back an listened to over and over. The complexities are wonderful. It anticipates Steve Miller's "Fly Like An Eagle" by at least 20 years. I don't think they were just trying to be psychedelic: it's more specific than that — and it rocks.

  • wow!!

    excelente cancion, me encanta!!

    saludos desde Colombia!

  • Oh, and BTW - Timothy Leary's dead.....

  • This was Vietnam means . . .

  • musically the Stones are a rock band straight up and uncomplicated.. this was a diversion... a fine one, but Floyd they never wanted to be...

  • Did this album come with papers and weed? or did you have to buy them separate?

  • A@probrojeffro Fucking,WOW!!!!!!!I I GAVE YOU A THUMBS UP\!!!!!l LIKE MAN YOU KNOW YOUR SHIT!!!!!!!! I TOTALLY AGREE!Mescalin is not here.Yeah my spelling is not correct.SO FUCK ALL OF YOUS THAT WILL CORRECT ME.I HAVE THE ORIGANAL SHEET MUSIC TO THIS ALBUM

  • @probrojeffro perfect !

  • @probrojeffro came with several hits of LSD25

  • @probrojeffro Thumbs up to you, youre damn right!!!!!!

  • @probrojeffro Maybe the jacket liner was actually infused with LSD! Now I'll have to dig up my copy and eat a tab of it,I hope it's that really good Sandoz stuff!

  • @probrojeffro I would By My Own, just sit back and watch the wall paper peel

  • @probrojeffro oh no...thats not the right answer. we were looking for what is big bambu by cheech and chong....big bambu by cheech and chong. but thank you for playing-we have some lovely parting gifts for you on the way out.

  • @zosimfr, the old songs are the best kind!

  • The all time greatest alblum of all time,IF YOU ARE A STONER!!!!!!!!!Otherwise its great even if you are straight.Blow your mind not your waist line!!!!See yas

  • too much lsd

  • Shroom Rock! :-)

  • U2's "Zoorapa" and "Pop" remind me of this sorta

  • If anyone ever comes across a copy of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's first album (remember those guys?), their cover is a rip off of the Stones Satanic LP cover.

  • I read somewhere that this album was referred to as a "bad idea that went wrong" when Stones were trying to "answer" to the Beatles Sgt. Peppers LP even down to the cover.

If its a failure, its a brilliant and interesting one.

Of course, during these days, they had trouble with the drugs & getting busted by the cops, so their hearts weren't really into this project.

They never did anything remotely close to this album again.

  • @JohnGrant2011

yeah this album was a major flop in terms of sales and it ended up getting pulled by the record label. Still got some great songs on it though.

  • @mufc4527 According to wikipedia, this album was #2 in the US and #3 in the UK, I would hardly call that a flop! It even went to #1 in Australia.

  • @1955disney

for a stones album it was a flop, most of the stones albums would stay in the top 10 for months. this album didn't.

  • Serious flashbacks.

  • awesomly trippy....although i've never tripped...

  • i think..masterbation influenced this song.....yummy in my book...nothing else..and..i go..now..to..enjoy the song..with..my happy mind...see.you later..gater

  • @Simon4642 cool drugs

  • @TravellerFellow Yup u are completely right.Sorry for sounding rude,I should know this as my parents ask the same questions.I may be younger but I was brought up on Beatles and Stones and I'm a bit nerdy when it comes to musical trivia.Anyway glad I helped haha

  • @TravellerFellow Don't mean to sound rude but did you not think to yourself "Oh,I'll google it" instead of spending longer writing a comment and waiting for an answer you might never get?Anyway,67 Satanic Majesties Request

  • This always reminded me of a Rolling Stones 'Major Tom' .

  • the weird thing about this song is that it came out at the same time of the Apollo 13 Moon Mission....and it reminds me of that...

  • @terry1919 The weird thing about your comment is that no it didn't unless you class 67 and 70 as the same time

  • Watch this with the song on. /watch?v=PdDEpC0uHWI&

  • I think this album is a great one, very creative, they did something else than their usual stuff, the critics at the time hated it, I always loved it, I was 10 years old the first time I heard it, and yes maybe it was a response to Sgt.Pepper, personnally I don't care, all the songs have a different style, one of their best effort...

  • Too bad the people who enjoyed this era are running out of neurotranmitters.

  • TSMR definitely has similarities to Pepper no doubt about it. They definitely bit off of the Beatles here and there. But if anything, especially this song, The Stones in this era sounded more like Pink Floyd than the Beatles...

  • Comment removed

  • OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • They came out at the same time as the Beatles. You wanna learn how to do some fucking math?

  • yeah, this was nothing like sgt peppers.

  • Everyone was watching for the Beatles to finally fail after 5years.Pepper was recorded with alot of lookers on. Mick n Keith were there following their lead.As always.Lennon handed their 1st hit to them through a Limo window..As Keith said;"Lennon was up-front and real".

I was old enough to remember that all these supposed genious bands were all pale to 'The Beatles'.They didnt have to put on...they Were'.. that good..

  • Keith Richards in his own recent autobiography even admits the influence Sgt. Pepper had on this album.

  • Absolutely Brilliant.

  • I dont care what anyone says.If you have the sheet music or know the lyrics to this alblum.Never will an alblum have the lyrics.Like what kind of lyics you have now???Seriously and leave a comment.

    Thanks

    mike

  • this song is a part of my first LSD trip

  • LSD

  • 70er Jahre Mainhatten, permanent auf LSD und die Welt war okay

  • Saw them do it Live back on the Steel Wheels tour.Mind Blowing.

  • @SmokeBojangles I was there as well my friend at Foxboro Stadium. It was a special moment.

  • I was a freshman in college in Syracuse, NY. Great memories of this tune.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!.......want to know some juicy gossip about ronnie that they dare not print in the magazines....go to "i see red jimeapg" and read my 3 comments. regards.

  • still a great song in 2011

  • Remember how this was the underplayed B-Side of the popular "She's Like a Rainbow"??? Took me a while to warm up to this song. As a matter of fact it took until my first LSD experience!

  • A Classic example of Sir Brian Jones adding the "MISSING ELEMENT " to a song. Absolutely Stunningly magical !!

  • Sweet.

  • Brian Jones..what a brilliant musician. great mellatron playing on this track. He was a great improvisational talent.

Those who like this check out "Gomper" too

  • first of all,John Paul Jones of Lead Leppelin is the great keyboard player who played the mellotron on this amazing song. not Brian Jones

  • Cool song from the Stones!Very creative on Mick's part,to come up with something like this while behind bars. The Beatles and Pink Floyd are probably the only ones who could relate to the psychedelic mindbending going on here!

  • Rock'n Roll ! Love that, I whant to jump everywhere singing " Its soooooo very longly, you'r two thousand light years from home ! "

  • @ZachMac209 quit trollin.

  • @ZachMac209 ): no they don't! You do you you can like The Beatles and The Stones at the same time right? i love both bands. Its not hard to do!!!

  • Some great art here too. Cheers!

  • One of the best Stones records ever!

  • Thumbs up if you're getting acid flashbacks from this song

  • The mellotron is an incredibly hard "musical soundbox to play". Brian tinkered with it until he found a sound he thought would work. Very eastern!

  • Another song with a story behind it. Poor befuddled Brian was on the outs with the band. Completely unreliable, Brian showed up one late night at Olympic Studios to find only Glyn Johns there. 2,000 Light Years was going nowhere like most of their session work. Glyn was one of the few engineers who knew how to bring the best out of Brian. Together they laid down the mellotron track for this song.... thus saving it for all time. Though Brian reportedly hated "the new sound" of '67.

  • @AssinnippiJack - intersting and illuminate story ...!

  • @AssinnippiJack

"Another song with a story behind it."

...Also, Mick was in jail when he wrote the lyrics.

  • @jimbrown257 - intersting information ...i didnt know that ,thanks

  • @jimbrown257 Really ! Now that is cool !

  • @phobias1000

From "40 Year Odessey of The Rolling Stones":

Jagger wrote the lyrics for 2000 Light Years while in Brixton prison following his conviction on drug charges in June 1967.

...Now listen to the song again and notice how different it sounds.

  • @jimbrown257 Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you confused with "We Love You" ?

  • Hay .. love it. it so me!

  • amazingggggggggggggg!!!!!!!!

  • People need to calm down, they were so heavily influenced by the Beatles, the group decided to make their own pepper/ revolver. album.

  • @DAYD111 They were many others bands witch inspired Stones . I could not see many similarities of the album you wrotte .

  • @zosimfr lol wut? You don't see many similarities? Well, they're there, man. Just because you can't explain them in broken English doesn't mean DAYD111 isn't spot on with his statement.

  • @DAYD111 As much as I loved the Beatles, especially as I get older & have heard many types of music, I find Sgt. Peppers over rated. The Stones here are experimenting here but I always liked 'Their Satanic Majesties Request'.

  • @DAYD111 you're fucking retarded the stones did everything to be the OPPOSITE from the beatles they thought they were too pop, the stones were a blues rock n roll band and this album sounds NOTHING LIKE Sgt. pepper's you're just mentioning it because they're both trippy acid like albums

and in case you didn't know... Sgt peppers came out in June '67.... THIS came out in December '67

  • @cubancg212

Why are you getting so ass hurt? All I said was that the Beatles and Sgt. Pepper album influenced The Stones work even more for their Psychedelic album, I never said they copied them or sounded like them. Sgt. Pepper wasn't the only album that came out that same year for the Beatles Psychedelic era. You forgot about the Magical Mystery Tour album which came out November 1967. Both albums influenced the Stones' Majestic. Please stop being an ass and jumping into conclusions.

  • @cubancg212

The Beatles also influenced the Stones to use the mellotron and the sitar which were started from the fab four during the very beginning of the psychedelic age.

  • @DAYD111 The Stones weren't influenced by the Beatles. They were influenced by Chuck Berry and blues type stuff, of course rock'n'roll too...but not the Beatles. Though they were friends with the Beatles.

  • @EvilAnticsLive You seriously have no idea what you're talking about. Why do clueless fools comment on something they're completely ignorant of?

  • @greatestxgift Pal, please do one thing, blow me. There's no need to make a dick comment for no apparent reason. Obviously you're the ignorant one since you didn't even know what I was talking about. I was talking about the Stones sound, sure this album is a rip off of Pepper, and that their roots were blues rock artists, not the Beatles. I mistook what the other guy commented, and wrongly posted whatever. You're obviously they ass who when someone makes a fault, jumps on their case. Douche.

  • @EvilAnticsLive I'm sorry but I'm not a homosexual (not that there's anything wrong that) so I'm not into blowing guys. If you're looking for guys to blow you then go chase cock elsewhere because it's pathetic and sad to proposition guys on YouTube pages.

  • @greatestxgift The fact you have now swayed away from the actual argument of the music shows you have no defense other than to insult me. Good job, put up a good fight.

  • @EvilAnticsLive I think you made it clear that there is no argument to be had. I called you out on your ignorance and foolish comment and you admited to making a "fault" and "wrongly" posting. Case closed on that matter. I did think your homosexual propostion needed to be addressed as I think it was definitely creepy and extremely sad. You'll probably find better luck on the Justin Bieber videos you frequent.

  • @greatestxgift ...do you live under a rock? The term "blow me" can be taken a couple ways, sure, since you're probably thinking about dick and fags all day you used it in the actual meaning. Unfortunatley, I ment it as if saying "bite me"...too bad you were too stupid to comprehend that. For that last bit, ever heard of trolling?...no...oh, you do that's right! Well there's the answer to that. I'd personally troll his videos than watch Charles Manson and GG Allin stuff, fucking lunatic.

  • May I recommend a book called 'A Pop Revolution, the transatlantic music scene, 1965 to 1969' by the invisible man.

  • Surprisingly boring if your left headphone isn't working >:(

  • lol i love the timothy leary backround though.. he is a hero to me <3

  • I love this song! I remember listening to this when I was just a wee lad! Man! Thanks for posting!

  • @jdpicher Same here but i was a wee-fry!Man!

  • Ahhh Mellotron!

  • reminds me of what seems to be the enatiomer of "Tomorrow Never knows" by the Beatles

  • @sweethippy67 -All music of beatles rejected ...

  • @zosimfr rejected by yourself? well wether you like it or not mack, they exist. They are different bands, people like to compare them all the time but in a little gray area music does mix. I do not like seeing things in back in white- you just miss too much

  • @sweethippy67 - Well iam very sory but my personal opinion is ,all the Beatles mania made a huge damage to the real rock music of those days ...Many remarkables band just "buried" , the record companies forced the artists playing like Beatles e.tc. If you got time search many fantastic bands of the 60's & 70's ...playing real rock music like Stones ...Beatles was not rock band ...

  • @zosimfr ironic since this album was produced by the Rolling Stones

  • @zosimfr I can agree to an extent with you, but my original comment was not meant to be at all offensive in anyway man. Beatles didnt mean to label themselves- people labeled them and made craze. Media will always be media. We are the audience..I know good music. I dont side with any group specifically. No favorite. I just like good stuff..attracted to certain sounds. I never like all songs of one band because of their name and whats been made out of them- its not them.

  • @sweethippy67 - you right ...i understand you ,nice talking to you ...

  • @zosimfr Glad you see my point of view. Good talking to you too.

  • @zosimfr the fuck are you talking about... the Beatles where an amazing rock band lmfao... lets see you do what they did...

  • @tobusykillin lol... peace, love, self discovery, beauty, mind expansion... This world desperately needs a Hippie resurgency. Everybody just chill out and be one with the music! This is why the sixties are dead (along with the fact that the goofy '70s decided they had to come along... lousy forward flow of time...). If things get any rowdier in here, I'll have to hire the Hell's Angels to monitor this comment section!

  • @TheSoliloquist please dont hire them, i dont feel like getting stabbed because they have some anger problems. lol!

  • @zosimfr thank you for posting this wonderful song anyway

  • despite having a bad trip while this was playing i still enjoy it haha

  • When I was stationed in New Mexico, before going to Viet Nam, we use to cruise through the desert late at night. No one on the highways back then. I had the 8 track of the album. Windows down, warm desert air coming into my car (1966 Impala Super Sport 396). Out there you felt like you were 2000 light years from home. Just you, the desert, the stars and, of course, the Stones. What memories. In 'Nam it was Credence Clearwater. In the desert it was 2000 light years from home. Thanks

  • @elcamman50 - Excellent descreption ....Thans sharing some of your memories ...

  • @zosimfr Hello. Thank you for the nice comments. I miss those times so much now that I am getting older. It was so much nicer and simpler back then. Oh, my girlfriend is of Greek descent. Love it there. So peaceful and beautiful.....

  • @elcamman50 - No problem i think you deserve it .Actually i miss the older times myself too , even iam 38 years old .Say hallo to your girlfriend from Crete [Greek island] ,perhaps she know where it is .Here the US army has military base using it to control the around area ,Libia for example now ....

  • @elcamman50 Great comment. Said it all.

  • @elcamman50 DUDE! AWESOME!

  • @elcamman50 I agree very good comment

I started making love seriously for the first time on this music (after smoking joints)

I have great memories as well....

    xxx from amsterdam

  • @elcamman50 i bet you wish you still had that '66 impala right now... : ))

  • @m1kewithaone God yes I wish I still had it! When I came back from Vietnam I bought an American Motors AMX. It had a 390 engine, 4 speed, disc brakes and leather interior. Paid 2900 dollars for it. I ordered it in Vietnam so I had no taxes to pay and we also got a big discount. Sold that one in 73 during the first big gas crunch...Wish I still had that one also...lol. Thanks for writing....

  • @elcamman50 Very cool - thanks for sharing that.

  • @IamZeZetheX Your welcome. That is one of my most beloved memories. Driving down the deserted highways of New Mexico late at night listening to the music and the sound of exhaust pipes from the Chevy. I would love to live it again....

  • @elcamman50 Wow!! That sounds awesome !!! Yeah, a little stimulant , and this album =Whooooo!

  • @elcamman50 The feelings I had for "Riders on the Storm" back when it was gaining popularity on the FM format!

  • @elcamman50 Thanks for serving, brother.

  • I love SO MANY Stones songs, but this one comes close to being my favorite, I can't really decide, but this is definitely in my top 5 favorite Rolling Stones Songs. I don't think the critics liked it at the time, but what do they know?

  • this song inspired me to a beautiful statement

  • Got my original vinyl with the 3D cover. If you have it, look closely and you can find the Beatles.

  • They shoul have done more of the psychedelic stuff man

  • This is still my favorite Stones song. Love the psychedelic sixties stuff!

  • Always thought the Satanic album was one the Stones greatest .Timeless, still sounds as innovative today as it did when it was first released.

  • House music 20 years before right time.

  • one of the most underrated for sure!

  • @scottleeper Indeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • this is one of the stone's best songs!

  • @bubbajolee Yes you´re right!!!

  • suun turning round with gracefull motion..

  • @Tarten46 energy here in every part ...

  • The whole album 'Their Satanic Majesties Request' is one big trip!

  • @IndianaSurfGuitar - yes the all album " In Another land " album....

  • i had a real cool ac from time to time when i aircrewd. the man grew sick of our new music on the comm. he layed this on us one day. i really dugg the stones, but this was totally new to me. i enjoyed flying with that crazy mutha fugga.Fly Navy.

  • I've always loved this song. Discovered it when I was 14 years old in the spring of 1981, and man did it blow me away. Much respect for the stones.

  • SO TRIPPY and SO GOOD

  • best stones attempt at psychedelia .....

  • i remember the 1st time i heard this, about 20 years ago. I flipped out.

  • questo disco è da considerarsi un capolavoro di musica contemporanea.

Scritto nel 1967 è sempre attuale.

  • Coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

  • three people are sensitive about being two thousand lightyears from home
