The Amazing DOI CHAANG coffee from Thailand's Akha people is something I just became "educated" on (thank you Robert)..it is Beyond Fairtrade and the people are paid twice Fairtrade prices and they were given 50% of the Canadian company..P>Pachecos, Calgary AB
The King of Thailand presented the hilltribes with agricultural alternatives to opium growing, including coffee plants. One indigenous tribe known as the Akha was the beneficiary of this scheme. A Canadian chose to back the Akha people 100% in this venture. Thanks to to his generosity in giving the growers a 50% share in the Canadian company, 'Fair Trade' has since evolved into 'Beyond Fair Trade'--a noteworthy business model to emulate in terms of sustainability and sound ethics.-P. Pachecos

If you do not drink or eat fair trade quality foods think of your son or daughter getting ripped from you and sold to them at the age of 4, to knife the fields clear of old substance :( imagine you're husband or wife going to get some food and never returning as they were stolen from streets or promised high paying work.. :'(
bad song choice...do you expect people to take this seriously with this song going...all they can think about is some husky kid throwing his arms back and forth
@ghettocumquats I think that's just a matter of opinion. Perhaps it's nice to see things in a positive light sometimes. So long as we don't get too carried away.
@13elessar13 you're absolutely right...it is a matter of opinion...i just dont think that this subject can really be seen in a "positive light" ...thats all
@ghettocumquats Well I guess the fact that a labelling system exists that gives a fairer deal is good but the fact that it has to exist at all (i.e. the fact that there is unfair trade) sucks.

@GalenAus "Fair Trade - Balancing the Books" - I no longer have access to the book but the original source is oxfam. We could argue over what price counts as 'fair' but, ultimately, if people don't have enough to live off despite a successful harvest, something is arguably very wrong.
@WebEducated ....fair trade....hahahhaa...yea right....does that mean that the companies have just admitted that all of their trade so far has been unfair....so whos prosecutung them for that then...?..its kinda like a seriel killer announcing that he aint gonna do any more killing, and no one holding him accountable for all the killing he did do but patting him on the back for not doing it anymore.....human beings are becoming stupider and stupider....
@13elessar13 you talk around the real facts no1 sayed buying a house is criminal i sayed this fair-trade organisation is criminal please read before you cry
this fair-trade act like they isolate from global market and a lot ppl are not happy about the situation that they dont get good money for their work
in my country with a similar work like strawberrie cull you not even could buy 1 of those things like house ect
you can look german tv look in channel "Pro7" then search for "Galileo" documentation about fair-trade
oh yes its a crime to hide behind a name"fair-trade" what says : i do good please buy me more
and go around the world market where every1 pays the price the market tells and im not happy that i have to pay the full price while this organisation acts criminal to go around that and for less complex work
so tell me why ppl earn more for less complex work ?
Pro7, Fair Trade, Galileo... sorry, couldn't find it. Is it a documentary where researches have gone all the way to the farmer to see what he gets paid?
in case this person had a own parcel, house , solar cells, car
this is crime i know many people who are far away buying such things and work in a industrial country and for more complex work
in other case please show me who earn such expensive things in a short time in a industrial country with a work close to flower selling like strawberrie annex
Music fits the audience very well. Used this in a lesson and works a treat - you have helped hundreds of children enjoy learning about Fairtrade well done.
This video (including the music) was a hit with my students. It was a great introduction to the assembly. I don't think that Fairtrade needs a somber narrative ... It is a positive movement which brings hope!
Really sorry, I reformatted my hard disk recently to install Windows 7 and the video got lost in transit...I could download this version for you? Quality wouldn't be any better than it is on youtube but might be useful?!
You've definitely got a point there, thoughthis was originally made to be used in a school situation - and the music had to be something to draw peoples attention. Plus, its more fun making a video to interesting music! Totally accept your point though :-)
I think it's a positive subject matter actually! It's about being able to actively do something about injustice and for me that's as upbeat as you can get...
woo thanks! If you want the higher quality mp4 versions do say and I can send them to you somehow! I figure with these kinda videos that once you get the music right you're 95% of the way there! Thanks for commenting :-)
My IT skills are limited. I need to put it into a powerpoint and only know that I can do this if it is in Windows Media Video format.
If you think you can send me something better quality with some simple instructions for putting it into a powerpoint presentation, that'd be great, but if not I'll use what I've got. Thanks for your replies.

The song is way too upbeat for the subject matter. I think a somber narration would be more effective.
