  • IPCC "Most of the observed increase in global average temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic GHG concentrations.8 This is an advance since the TARs conclusion that most of the observed warming over the last 50 years is likely to have been due to the increase in GHG concentrations (Figure 2.5)." LIKELY??? Is that scientific? What other causes are to be envisaged?
  • Antarctic sea ice extent shows inter-annual variability

and localised changes but no statistically significant average

multi-decadal trend, consistent with the lack of rise in near-surface

atmospheric temperatures averaged across the continent.

    There is

    insufficient evidence in some other

    variables, for example the MOC

of the global ocean or small-scale phenomena such as tornadoes,

hail, lightning and dust storms. There is no clear trend in the annual

    numbers of tropical cyclones.

  • Are you just taking detail from an IPCC report that suits your argument ???

Its the conclusions that matter in terms of what is happening to the world not the detail.

  • Certainly!

    As much as you do.

The conclusion of the synthetic report (2007...gosh, that's SO out of date) uses the word "likely". Not convincing.

You haven't answered any of the objections. Is that because you refuse to believe anything other than your blinkered "politically correct" propaganda allows you to believe?

  • Did you find the IPCC report on the internet ??

If so and you want people to take you seriously you should provide a link to the source then people can look at the whole report.

  • The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes that increasing greenhouse gas concentrations resulting from human activity such as fossil fuel burning and deforestation are responsible for most of the observed temperature increase since the middle of the 20th century.

  • What is the increase in temperature since the last ice age?

what if nature and evolution envisaged no future for humankind, or even for the planet earth? (Let's all play at spreading distress and catastrophe theories, eh?)

18th century industry depended on burning wood and changing the course of streams and rivers. 19th Century saw the burning of coal. 20th Petrol products and nuclear energy....but you probably think the latter is also alarming.

    ;p

  • Do some research.

  • Done.

  • "Let's all play at spreading distress and catastrophe theories, eh?"

    Really mature stuff.

Why do you care so much about discrediting global warming ???

Do you work for an oil company ???

  • The IPCC also concludes that natural phenomena such as solar variation and volcanoes produced most of the warming from pre-industrial times to 1950 and had a small cooling effect afterward. These basic conclusions have been endorsed by more than 45 scientific societies and academies of science, including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries.

  • IPCC was difficult to access.

Alaska seems to have the greatest increase in temperature rise but "Some aspects of climate appear not to have changed and, for

some, data inadequacies mean that it cannot be determined if they

    have changed.

  • What is the source of your information ???

  • IPCC!

  • where?

  • Happily

    - there are great researchers (like Claude Allègre) around to give the media another way of looking at the facts

    - thinking and reasonable people don'tt swallow all that is given to them on a plate

    - Public opinion is gradually becoming aware that politicians and extremist pressure groups are manipulating it.

  • We can read here

    en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Claude_All%C3%A8gre#Asbestos

    (take out spaces)

what Claude thought about Asbestos and Gravity. Claude is a sad case. It does not reflect well on the Institute of Geophysics, Paris either.

  • 1. The same people would have protested about the beginning of the ice-age when glaciers covered Northern Europe.

    2. Why didn't the guy with the megaphone and the other organisers strip off?

  • Check this excellent article on wikipedia

    en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Global_warming#Environmental

    (take out spaces)

wiki seems to be getting well sorted now.

  • I would not like to deresponsabilise citizens from their efforts to improve their environment: conserve water, use less energy, eat healthier.... but most of the problems of pollution come from agriculture and industry and not from our houses!

The Wiki article gives, with valid sources, a biased point of view. What a pity there is not a chapter "Global warming contested".

Enter "Global warming contested" in Google for some surprises.

  • No doubt you know better than than the 45 scientific societies and academies of science, including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries.

    Read

    en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Global_warming_controversy

    (take out spaces)

People just need to learn how to use wikipedia.

  • Arguments attacking the person are not valid in reasonable debates.

  • Do you still think Claude Allègre is a great reasearcher ???

  • Yes.

Anyone can make a mistake (a Nouvel Observateur article gives a quote of CA about the asbestos. The Wiki article gives a snide general remark. He was not the only scientist to oppose the work to remove asbstos at Jussieu.

Do you know his books and research papers?

In fact, apart from a fanatic wish to spread fear, what is your qualification?

  • How about gravity ??? From

    en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Claude_All%C3%A8gre#Gravity

    (take out spaces)

In 1999, the Canard enchaîné, and subsequently several other media, published Allègre's claim, initially stated during a radio interview, that, if one drops a pétanque ball and a tennis ball at the same time from a tower, they will reach the ground at the same time.

  • part 2

Allègre claimed that there was a popular misconception to the contrary, and that schoolchildren should be made to understand that two objects always fall at the same speed.

The Canard responded that this was true only in a vacuum, and not in all cases as Allègre had said. The latter responded in turn, maintaining his initial statement. Georges Charpak, Nobel prize for Physics, intervened to explain that Allègre was wrong; the latter maintained his statement yet again.

    SO FUNNY!

  • Do you have shares in Wikipedia?

I have already read these remarks in the original French.

Nothing to do with global warming: he is a Géophysicist.

Attacking Christianity on the grounds of the impossibility of Virgin birth is no argument against their religion!

  • Wiki is non profit as far as I know. Check wiki to find out about wikipedia !!!

Through experience I know how to use wiki and how good it can be if you know enough.

Most schoolchildren could tell you that a pétanque ball and a tennis ball. Allègre showed a basic lack of science skills.

So it would be hard to take him too seriously.

  • Reading what you have written and sensing the hysterical side of your profile, it is very hard to take you seriously ;p

  • Do you know anything about human rights ???

  • By what right do humans give themselves rights?

The declaration of human rights of Franch revolutionary citizens (1789) one of the fundamental Human Rights Documents makes reference to a Supreme Being and to the State's competence to judge and execute!!!

  • No doubt that is the reason why the French Government bombed the Rainbow Warrior in 1985.

Most members of the members of the UN Security Council seem to have a questionable record in international affairs.

  • What a pity that it is they who are responsable for world affairs and not you.

    ;p

  • The UK seems to be the best behaved of the UN Security Council countries in recent times.

However the UK is somewhat let down by most BBC reporters who get brainwashed when they go to Tibet. As the result the BBC produces some pretty dodgy documentaries for Tibet. But I have seen one good BBC documentary about Tibet.

  • Wikipedia is not an objective or scientific tool since anyone can pose or alter its articles.

Encyclopedias and Scientific journals are rather better sources.

However, I do like THIS article, which gives several points of view.

It also shows that public opinion is uniformed! Public opinion polls don't always ask the right questions...

    Funding...

  • Anyone can change many wiki articles but those changes can easily be reversed.

Looks like you don't know much about wikipedia.

How up to date is any book ???

  • Another argument ad hominem. This does not lead to intelligent discussion.

The date of a book publication is shown with its ISBN.

  • So what ???

You thought Claude Allègre was a great researcher so you did not do your research (funny that). People should learn to do some research before opening their big mouths.

Any book will probably be out of date by the time it is published for an ongoing issue like global warming.

Any errors that are in the book cannot be corrected once they are in circulation. So books are becoming less relevant now.

  • this is truly amazing...

  • I was there that day and my scrotum got stuck to the ice. Shouldnt have tried to get up real fast. Please note name.

  • Them some ugly crevasses!

  • Stupid... What's the point? I'm sure they hitchhiked and backpacked from all around the world to get there... With no help of internal combustion motors... And I'm sure they knitted their "Greenpeace" logo t-shirt. Climate change needs to be researched, but what will the nudists really acomplish?

  • Climate change needs to be researched? We've had over 30 years of research how much more do you want? Now, EVERY credible scientific institution that has studied climate change basically agrees. Humanity is contributing to climate change. The debate has moved to solutions. We must change the ways we generate and use energy for the sake of our future generations.
