a parable was not meant to be taking literally,if that were the case then you,d have people from heaven looking own and talking with people in hell.Would a drop of water cool your tongue if your whole body was on fire? Peter believed in a real fire did he not,when does peter say that the fire occurs? peter says that the unjust are reserved til the day of judgment,when jesus returns and sits on his throne.The bible contrary to popular belief says that the fire comes at the end of the world.
