  • Or you could just go to ubuntu.com and find the link to the universal usb installer, from there you can download the iso image, format your flash drive, and make it bootable.

  • can i do this with other linux distrubutions

  • Thanks!.

  • when i do the fdisk -l it says that Disk /dev/sda doesn't contain a valid partition table and after that i cant do anything functionally

    please help.

  • "It's a pretty large file

so it might take a while"

    Who said gigafide can't rap!?

  • THE OS.ZIP FILE IS NOT THERE. )-: If any of you find another link to it, PLEASE reply to this!

  • sorry for the noob questions :

    1. How do i know my bios support booting via usb?

Because i think my computer is like 5+ years old and previously i never noticed there is any option of booting through usb drive, and i only had hdd to boot as my dvdrom is a gone case. Should i just give it a try? or is there any option of re-setting my bios to boot from usb?

    2. How do i mirror image my boot file in hdd which was factory set? Im using a dell inspiron 640m

    Many thanks appreciated

  • @aliffirwan you could update bios

  • Nowadays if you want to make a bootable USB flash drive, all you have to do is boot from an Ubuntu Live CD, go into System>Administration>USB Startup Disk Creator. It's that simple.

  • help someone how do i get the ub7 convert zip file?

  • Hello ,Please i need help- i want to do the same thing with Fedora 12

please guide me on what to do.

    Thanks

  • Sub to me, and ill sub to you! Just send a message when you sub!

  • STFU

  • Sory to hard

  • Thx!!!

  • latest ver of Ubuntu will allow u to make a bootable usb drive with a simple click of the mouse

  • could you plx PM on how to do that?

  • is this done on a mac

  • No, it was done on Linux.

  • This is to complicated, I would rather stick with a CD rather than going through this shit.

  • now ismt there any way to do what u did on linux a little easier or at least on windows?

  • Ya on Windows, get the Ubuntu Netbook Remix, then burn it to a disc, and run it, make sure you have a 1GB (or more) flash drive, then make sure its FAT32, then explore the disc and choose "usb-creator" Done!

  • You know the step on 3:44 , my computer didn't show all that stuff after you typed the command. How could I start again without any partitions on my flash drive, and all the space I had.

  • So suppose if I have an 8 GB usb drive, could I put in atleast another six different distros onto that one drive ?

  • Who wants that many command lines. Needs to be simpler. Linux won't be mainstream on the desktop anytime soon.

  • the bad thing is you cant change your res

  • I have a 1 GB usb drive

    is that enough space?

  • And if the usb pendrive is not inserted, it wont boot to linux but it will boot to windows right?

  • Oh yeah too, why cant i just use Windows to reformat the Usb Pendrive?

  • Technically you can but windows doesnt have the necessary tools to format the drive with the right settings and partition table

  • if i set usb drive as the first boot option and its not plugged in will it then go off the hard drive? also would it matter if my mouse plugs in to the usb?

  • no. It just searches for the USB storage and if there isn't it will look at the 2nd in order.

  • link in the sidebar does not work

  • the link in the sidebar does not work

  • broken link, wont download

  • does it matter if its fat 32

  • hi sir!!! i just want to ask if how can i creat a bootable hardisk?????please help

  • Wow. Classic example of why Ubuntu is NOT for people. There is absolutely no excuse for there not being an application to do this on the Ubuntu site. (or anywhere for that matter)

I can see there not being one for the commercial systems, since once I have it on a stick, how hard would it be to pass out billions of them, but with an open OS?

Come on. USB install, and USB persistent live boot should be standard. CDs=Diskettes

    Come on now, really.

  • its better because you can boot ubuntu on any computer via a flash drive THAT IS SMALL , FITTING IN YOUR POCKET and a Cd is LARGER

  • ok so to clarify: do i have to restart my computer to use this or can i just open it by double clicking on it?

  • nice man cool :)

  • I'll prolly just you windows.

  • LINK BROKEN!

  • does this only make a live usb or the real thing???

    someone please reply! :)

  • This is like having a mini hard drive in your pocket. You will be able to add programs store music, photos and video depending on the size of your flash drive.I use mine to use on other peoples computers you can go into their hard drive and see what they have and even transfer files,music,ect..great to have.

  • lol read the wuestion one nore time

  • did you try it ?

could you install extra software on your flash drive ?

  • ..first i already throw away my ubunto linux so complicated program i dont know why they invented it..not a user friendly.. and 1 more maybe much better if u put an automatic run program in the usb flash drive but not ubunto..if possible winXP :)

  • whats your intro music

  • All of linux on a 1 gig flash drive... lol

  • very cool

  • It's not hard at all :D Thx for syslinux ,I've not idea about it :X Now I can freely run gOS too :D

  • can u make windows xp bootable from it?

  • oh hell no! it needs WAY MORE than flash memory lol

  • you can get lite version of xp for around 600MB, thing is this is just very basic XP, i dont have any pictures and it dont even have paint... useful for servers and downloading stuff but apart from that its kinda crappy

  • Windows CE witch is like XP but more "simple" version is only 440MB.

  • yea im wondering to cuz i have a 32 gb flashdrive

  • holy crap!!!!

  • Where you get it and how much did it cost?

  • @rastderb I think you can, theres a winXP thumbie for like 100$ or something.

  • @rastderb yes. go watch mobilephone2003's video on this.

  • @rastderb yes you can

  • too hard for my brain

  • yeah u right :S

  • cool but kind of not worth it but cool

  • outta of curiosity does anyone know if the usb drive is marked by the asterisk (*) symbol. I know seems like a new question I know

  • Warning people as in the message.

If you have a never seriala ATA disk then your main HDD is normally /dev/sda and be really carefull to not wipe your whole disk.

In my case the USB drive is /dev/sdb

The fdisk -l is a very usefull command to find out just that.

    Cheers

  • Nothing

  • that's pretty tight. thanks.

  • My BIOS does not have USB in the boot order. Anyone have a solution?

  • yeah it will probably be in the hd section of the BIOS

  • What is the hd section? Hard Drive? I saw something about USB there, but didn't think it had anything to do with boot order. By the way, I have BIOS version A3 on a Dell Dimension 2400.

  • mate to be honest im not sure, on my bios there is hdd, fdd cd etc...

When my pendrive is plugged in, it is in the hdd section with my master hd

  • A while back, I bought a USB flash drive with a fingerprint scanner on it. The unit came with a boot CD for computers that dont support booting from the USB device. There must be a boot CD available somewhere that would be compatible with this setup. I want to try the ubuntu, but am too busy right now.

  • removable devices should be there

  • start up and press ESC ESC ESC ESC !!!

  • oh yeah the best tut i've ver seen :-)

  • great videos!

  • nice
