@marcboxler The Fleischer brothers did a lot of innovation in animation. They used constructed drawn paper smodeled backrounds for their cartoons,like Popeye the sailor,and used Rotoscoping also.
@Jofuku Jofuku asked in Japanese if this is an adaptation of a Brothers Grimm story. I did some Googling and learned that there are many variations on a folktale in which a magic mill churns out an endless amount of salt, but this particular version seems to be based on the Norwegian variation. I don't know when it was introduced to Japan.
Styles of art changes throughout time. I remember reading that Tezuka's Astro Boy started the large eyes & other features that are currently in most popular anime of today.
He could have waited until he was on the island to ask for salt. He would eventually figure out how to stop it.

グリム童話の翻案?
Jofuku 1 year ago
@Jofuku グリムではない。「塩を出し続ける臼」系のおとぎ話にはいろんなバリエーションがあるが、このバージョンはノルウェーのおとぎ話が元になっているようです。いつ日本に入ってきたのかわかりませんが。
