I just found this wondrfull tune. I've been lisening to it over and over again. This is what I like abluegrass. There is somekind of magic in it, that´s impossible to put in to words...
that bass player took it to town! And I loved the fiddle players little lick! I like that they look like very day guys just killing it! true musicians! That Nashville machine is amazing
I Love to here Alan & th band sing, he tought me how to play the Guitar as a young man in Kingston Springs TN, his singing turns back the years. I hope to see him again someday. Cowboy Tilghman.
man, I saw these guys in the early 90s at the Elizabeth Moose Lodge (pittsburgh). Place held maybe 200 people max. I don't know whether they still have shows there. So many great shows there at the time.. Tony Rice, Tony Furtado, Rhonda Vincent
The cream! I agree with the comment about going back to Mike Compton too.
Roland White has a real dry sense of humour though - I remember speaking to him at the Barbican in the UK when I asked him, "what the hell do you you feed Stuart Duncan on?" His deadpan expression never altered and his gaze stayed fixed on me as he reached down for a cardboard box. I looked into it and it held all the concessions cash! 'Love it!
I drove 875 miles to see them and it was more than worth it. They don't play in the southwest very often. I'm glad that they traded out Roland White for Mike Compton on mandolin.
alan, but he still sings a lil bit. i played with them the other month and he said he lost some of his range. he doesnt like to sing nearly as much as he used to.
Is there anybody better than Stu? The absolute best I've ever heard. Alison Krauss said it best when she said she tries to play everything on the fiddle " the way Stuart Duncan would"
@OldAndBlue Well, the problem is that young people now do not know the soothing train whistles in the distance we all heard when we were kids -- before the auto companies bought up all the railroad property and divided it up to set the US back a century behind other countries. If our kids knew the lullaby of those moaning whistles I knew when I was a kid in the Midwest, more people would like 'train songs.'
Is that Doyle Lawson on the end with the Mandolin??, of course he wouldn't be on a Banjo:) Love this Song had a garage built& many Transmissions listening to this LOVE it, Thanks
Great song. Written by the late great Dave Allen, a songwriter from the no virginia. Wish you could here his version with Stuart Smith on guitar...great stuff!!
For those inquiring, "Blue Train" was released in 1991 on the Nashville Bluegrass Band's sixth album, "Home of the Blues." A music video was made of the tune, which appeared for many months in CMT's rotation. "Blue Train" was written by Dave Allen and became IBMA's 1991 Song of the Year. Alan O'Bryant is the lead singer here with Pat Enright on harmony. I'm friends with Alan. I don't think they know this is up here, but I'll let 'em know. They'll be pleased y'all still really like their stuff.
Great vocals and good banjo and bass playing by a great band...Jack Baker NYC

Awesome. I first heard it when a guy who runs our local open mic night played it and it's such a catchy song with a great chord progression in it.
