I love Van and his playing, but when he teaches and speaks he always seems nervous and tense.

His thoughts tend to wander and he has a lot of nervous quirks, lol.

Watch him with his ear plugs. They're in, they're out. He talks fast as his thoughts seem to run the gamut.

Again, love the dude, but man he's fidgety! LOL

i practice 1-3 hours a day and i have blisters all over my hands, it hurts pretty bad to play but i can;t stop. its got my like a drug

hey. i think your technique is wrong. no offence, just to help. it used to happen to me when i first started but loosen up on the stick, it helps, and sounds better.

what you were doing at 8:15 Hi Hat snare stuff and having the doubles continue on the hats .I wish you could explain that . I have seen people do that between the ride too .

Just work on your double stroke roll and other rudiments on the Hi-Hat really slow. You'll get it. RVP

Besides practicing the song and playing along with it, try just listening to it. I really play well by ear. When a band wants me to learn a bunch of tunes I will put them on my iPod and just listen to them while driving. It works for me to just hear them. Although, I have been playing by ear for years so I guess it is a lot of practice. RVP
