  • Rediculous video. The Messiah, it is evident even when you see it, has NEVER been played. This masterpiece and was never meant to be played which is why it remained in Strad's workshop until he died, then of course hard times his son sold it 40 years later. And still never played. I believe this instrument was a testament to God which no man is of. Perfection would be destroyed if this were played, and who are we to decide if Strad's finest work which he refused to ever sell should be played.

  • there is a documentary called: "in search of the MESSISAH"....watch it...it is very good..it tells the complete story of the messiah and alot of the still existing Stradivari...very interesting...

  • thats why i sed it is ALSO important to preserve them you silly billly!!!

  • It doesn't meter - these violins (like Messiah) that were played counted times through their history should not be played at all. Its the only way to preserve them in pristine condition for future generations.

  • But playing a violin also improves it's sound.

  • @stradglider so tell me what's the use of even having the violin at all if you're not going to play it ?

i mean it's made to be played and if it's worth so much in value sell it to someone who will play it plenty other violins for future generations

  • @alternate352 This Messiah violin is the most unique violin of all out there. It is unique because in it's 300 years of existence it was played only numerous times. It is probably the most preserved Stradivari in the world. There are LOTS of others violins to play, THIS one should stay in the museum. If we don't preserve this violin no one will know how Stradivari violin should be when it's new.

  • but not some of them, they should be being played and appreciated more i think! although it's also important to preserve them and keep them in good order as they are incredibly old now

  • That is a very common assumption that violins should be played in order to preserve them. BUT... the moment the violin is in use - it's physical body changes.

All of the Stradivari that been played were heavily modified, very often got little of the original violin left. They been used for playing and should continue doing so.

The few that were little played until now and were preserved by people who loved them should stay in the museum if we want our children to know what Stradivari violin is.

  • that's pretty dumb to think i sed that violin's should be played in order to preserve them.. i actually said it's also important to preserve them as well as playing them, however I don't think they are generally played enough, particualary by proffessionals - i guess it annoys me a tad that amature's have so many because they should be being played in big concerts ect and to share their sound with moreee ; )

  • its so sad that so many strads are now kept in museums ect.. and also by players that do not perform in proper concerts so that others will not be able to hear their beautiful sound..

    stunning vid..

    : )

  • That's not entirely true.

museums have the violins but they give them to performers to play.

  • not with the Messiah, though. For the former owner's wish, it is kept in the museum without playing as far as I know.
