I ran into it, and I encountered my shiny snubbull. I was so excited that instead of hitting the "Bag" button, I accidentally hit "run".

@SuperBlade12 no, its still possible that the shiny patch is somewhere else, on 40 chain will the chanse to meet shiny maxed out, so more then 40 chains is not needed. so what you have to do is, using pokeradar over and over again untill you see a patch with ehmm yellow light? its easy to see it, and thats a shiny patch, so dont walk in any patch anymore after 40 chain, but only use the pokeradar. its not like walking on the wild grass, if the patch is not shining, you will never see shiny on it

Once you get to 40, the chance of getting a shiny doesn't increase anymore. So when you're at 40, just keep using the pokeradar, if there's no shiny patch just use it again. That way there's no chance you'll lose the chain.

Once the chain breaks, you're back to 1/8152 or whatever it is.
