  • Minimum wage is a difficult issue. I believe the company should be able to pay what they want to pay. If you don't like the pay get a job else where! Don't need unions to tell you what is right or wrong.

  • @bbqfundraiser I think the real agenda here is not about 'better wages' so much as 'this is a bigggg company, we MUST enforce Union will on it, and in the end, if we triumph we will have more power, and those Unionists will join the expanding new upper class of Union controlled 'big' companies...while the small fry who would normally simply collapse just die off. ("we don't care about them"..kind of thing)

  • @bbqfundraiser I also hold the view (becoming more solid in my thinking) that ultimately, the Unions realize they have no logic or reason behind them, just 'muscle'... they are aiming at a point where the rest of the taxpayers will be told they/we must subsidize these union arrangements to keep the companies afloat.. *wealth redistribution* but it will come from 'we the people', not 'they the companies'.

  • AussieEnigma are you on drugs? You are saying that the lowest paid workers are not worth less than $1 per hour more while the CEO of Qantas gets a bonus in the $M's?

  • @14bc ---Not at all. This dispute is not so much about hourly rates, it's about 'job security' in the light of QANTAS plans to off-shore as much of it's business as it can. This means just about all but check in staff and baggage handlers. (pilots included) But the Union (rightly) is standing against this. BUT...here is the problem. In so doing, they are ensuring the demise of those very jobs because QANTAS will not be competitive against o'seas airlines. It's a difficult dilemna.

  • @14bc In fact I did the vid as much as anything to kick off some discussion about this. The math is simple.

Take all Executive pay (9.8million) divide it equally among workers... they get around $265/annum more. wooo..now they can retire on that...right? NO... it's meaningless. The plea for job security will fall on deaf ears because without the ability to cut costs QANTAS is economically doomed. But shedding costly Aussie workers will make it an 'Asian' airline.

  • Which one is the old fart...the producer or the union bloke ?

  • this guy is such an old fart. Im sure he still refers to the chinese in some derogatory WWII term, as if the place dosent exist. Modern generations must deal with china, to a point we're learning chinese. We are toast with people like this on our chinese made tv's. He's oblivious.
