  • Really love this song. I recognized Lee Hazelwood. One of the albums I dont have, guess I need to hit Amazon.

  • great song this, I found a great cover version of this song by an Aussie by the name of Tex Perkins & the Band of Gold

  • Rainman here love this song hope my name eckos in your mind baby

  • anyone know what album this was off?

  • @GreaseGasGlory If you had 'av wtached till the end it would have told you !!!

  • I love Waylon, but this is terrible. A complete disgrace to the song itself.

  • @bigfootcock Well i don't suppose anything can be to everybody's taste ..i liked it .Ok not the greatest song but very far from being a disgrace .. but we can't all agree about evrything and thanks for commenting anyway

  • @bigfootcock I agree with you on this being bad. He is using the wrong chord progression, and the wrong words. Everyone should listen to Tony Rice do it, and then they will hear what it is supposed to sound like. This is a song that needs to be sung with feeling. I mean Utah wrote it about getting a Dear John letter while coming home on a ship from the Korean war.

  • @mandograssable Hi , You are indeed entited to think what you do about Waylon singing this tune. As for the wrong chord progression there is not a right or a wrong, there is the chord it was written in and whatever chord progression it gets played in , Waylon obviously chose his chords to suit his range of voice and what was best for him i am going to listen to the other version, most definately Thanks my Friend

  • @teddie488 Songs are not written in a chord. They are written in a "key", and people choose the proper key for their voice. Waylon did not use the chord progression the way the song was written, and that is not a sin, but most people do stay true to the original writing of the song, if nothing else, respect for the song writer.

  • @mandograssable Thank you for coming back, i appreciate it . i am obviously on Waylons side i do realise songs are written in a key, it was the way you placed such importance on chord progression that brought about that reply, which is really a ''set of rules'' that bring chords together and allows you to move from one chord to another. I am quite sure ol' Waylon had nothing but respect for a fellow musicians.

  • @teddie488 Type in JD Crowe and the New South, Rock Salt and Nails. A few versions will come up. Click on the one with the album cover, posted by Tapeworm05. It's 3:10 long, and not a live version, but the original version with Tony Rice lead, and Ricky Scaggs tenor. Hope you like it. By the way, the album cover used is not the original cover or musicains, except for JD Crowe. Let me know what you think.

  • @mandograssable Thanks for that and thanks for the introduction to JD Crowe and what i will say is that, Waylon did a great job ( i think) yea of course i am a big big Waylon fan, but i do agree and this will not happen to often, if ever again, this was a better version of Rock Salt and Nails than Waylons but Waylon was not a disgrace to himself or the song , nor was he disrespectful . Thanks again and i enjoyed the chat take Care my friend

  • @mandograssable Waylon didn't become a legend by following the Rules.

    HAHA.

  • @mandograssable i couldn't get it all in so this like part 2.. yea... there is also musical license and i bet the writer was really pleases that somebody like Waylon liked his song enough to record it.. i did try to listen to the Tony Rice version but could not find it here on the tube Take Care and thank you

  • I LIKE THIS VERSON, BUT I DO ENJOY THE BLUEGRASS VERSON A BIT MORE... IT IS USUALLY PLAYED, IN THE KEY OF F, IF ANYONE WANTS TOO KNOW...

  • I've got itchy feet to go to Arizona now:what a vast place:and so stunning.

This is a great song:nice duet.

    Great upload.

  • I agree tuks but i don't think America would let me in if they had to pay my medical bills but what a great place, Waylon loved Arizona so much he is buried there RIP Waylon

  • Thanks for upload - small note, shouldn't be a comma in the title. It is rock salt, not rock and salt.

  • Thanks, if you read the title it appears Rock ,Salt and Nails, not Rock AND Salt , please if you are going to pull me up for a silly thing like a comma, make sure you are perfect yourself but i do appreciate the thank you for the upload Take care

  • @teddie488 Right, it isn't a big deal, I was just saying "and" to emphasize the difference - he's talking about putting rock salt in the shotgun. The comma implies rock and salt. If you look at the original Utah Phillips song, it's "Rock Salt and Nails."

Again, it's just a minor thing, on the whole it's great to hear the song.

  • I accept that thank you for getting back

  • I just really love Waylon's voice on this one! What a contrast of 2 different voices! Phew!

  • Yea it is the other voice is Lee Hazlewood thx teeg

  • I really, really like this one Eddie :-)

  • A Much underrated song i think

  • This was written by the late Bruce "Utah" Phillips.

  • Thanks for that it is a great song

  • I miss Arizona,to!!!

  • This is a favourite of mine too.

  • Waylon and Lee are singing this song but check out the LP its from Singer of Sad Songs. Its great.

  • Thanks for commenting ..it is Lee Hazlewood

your right it is a great song

  • nope that does sound like Kriss a lot but it is definitely lee hazlewood

  • yea thanx florence....great name

  • Its Kris Kristofferson

  • Hi Henxa, thanks for that but i don't think thats right at all. Listen to Lee Hazlewood

  • You are right. Its Lee

  • thanks for that Henxa ... take care

  • Sorry but as a long-time Kristofferson and Hazelwood fan, have to tell you it is Hazelwood. Check out "Summer Wine" and you'll see there is no way its Kris.

  • I really love Waylon's beautiful voice on here....but who is the other dude singing...and what's with the background? No wonder Waylon fought hard to get things done HIS way!

  • I may be wrong, but I think it's Lee Hazelwood. He sang a song or two with Nancy Sinatra...one famous one called One Velvet Morning.

  • pfizzbones i think you may be right about that, i just d/loaded some of his stuff an'i reckon your right.

  • think you will enjoy that , listening to ol' Waylon on your ipod at the same time

  • I just looked up who the other voice is ..yea pfizzbones it was Lee Hazlewood
