I always wondered what the war in Vietnam was for. I finally learned that it was just another way the world bankers line their pockets, just like the one we are fighting in Iraq today. I always thought that the protesters were just a bunch of lazy potheads. I didnt realize that they actually had a clue. The bankers want all the money and all the power and we are nothing more than a commodity in their eyes or a play-toy.
Modern war is a product of the World Banking System. But the Bankers cant be blamed completely, I mean, this is their nature. We are just as much at blame when we fail to stand up to them. The students at Kent State stood up to them, and it made a difference.
I agree that the students shouldnt have been killed but u must realize they werent all inocent. Hav u ever wondered y the National Guard was at Kent St? Cuz students fire bombed the ROTC building, and assualted the local police force with fists and beer bottles. They werent peaceful protestors, had they been peaceful protestors this never wouldhv hapened. along with that was masive looting, and vandalism, the mayor of Kent called it a state of emergency so the guard was called in.
@RebelSince1776 I agree! That riot could have spread all over and out of the city of Kent. Those students could have killed many people. That day, the only thing they understood was the barrel of a gun, just like a terrorist.
Hey listen up i am good ol fashioned baptist white american who supports the military, and loves his country.I said the same things you said but, i called them people a bunch of hippies who got what they diserved. but i talked with a guy who was actually there. the truth is if you look at all the facts the us gov't, and the governors of the state of ohio all played a roll in the shootings, it was a big cover up.
You must have been injured and brain damaged in Iraq! What other excuse could there be for your INCREDIBLY STUPID comment unless you were looking for an excuse to use the word kunt. Please go back to Iraq and stay a very VERY long time! Maybe you'll get shot in the head-like Jeff Miller, but for you it would be an improvement you SICKO!!
What a stupid thing to say. Medals for valor? Really? Facing a bunch of unarmed "hippies" while sporting full riot gear and automatic weapons sure merits valor. You fought in Iraq, and this country thanks you for your service. Those who fought before you for this country fought for the very freedom these "hippies" were enjoying when people like you pulled their triggers...
What the fuck are you talking about? If people are shot, it is called murder. There is no fucking excuse with this, and a comment being offensive is less annoying than people being shot to death.
There is a difference between writing crap, and shooting someone, you see?
How tragic that the deaths of four young people , in those times, and under the Nixon administration should not be an trigger to the issue that the National Guard is now engaged in Iraq when the people of the US are undecided about getting out. Too many families destroyed by the meglomaniacal attitude of Governments. Let's feed the children of the world and stop destroying their communities.
first of all, i'm european like you. and tell me, when someone dies at the hands of the police in germany, do you trial the chancellor? of course not. you trial the police. and that's what the americans did.
Nixon did not order the guard onto the campus, nor shootings. They were under command of Gov. Rhodes. Led to case Scheuer v Rhodes. State held to account Later rightist Supreme Court shielded similar cases via fiction of Eleventh Amendment (doesn't apply via its own terms) Therefore in Nov, cast out the right wing filth. Down with McCain-Palin! Down with the Republican Party, the Party of SATAN!
My view of Republicans does not come from Kent State; rather, from things like the S&L
crisis of the '80's, the recession of 1990. Reagan, who promised to cut spending ran the biggest debt. After 1989 it became clear Republicans were liars on everything and no damn good. S&L crisis is Subprime's little brother. Reagan policy continued until the present time, even under Clinton. The rightist judges, of course do not help. Enough is enough! Turn the rascals out.
As wrong as this was, I find it funny how 67 shots were fired into 1500 unarmed students and they only hit 13. That's some quality marksmanship right there. No wonder the U.S. military can't win a war. Good luck in Iraq.

You are misinformed. The people who lost their lives weren't hippie. In fact they weren't even involved with the protest. Look it up. I agree I don't like violent war protest but to protest peacefully unlike what happened at Kent is a right weather you like it or not. FREE SPEECH. No

The boys were being sent to a place where they did'nt belong much as they are now.But our goverment still had some restrant then.I don't believe the Viet Nam war as it was would have ever gone nuclear. And I never said it was unpatriotic to oppose the goverment but it is an unjust act to vandilize the property of private citizens and public bulidings that were payed for with tax payer money. The protesting of goverment acts does not have to become riotous acts to be effective in changing policies.
I in no way shape or form support murder but I don't support the destruction of private and public properties either.I support protests but not RIOTS!
This event was NOT a so-called "peaceful assembly" it was a RIOT! These draft dodging miscreants were perpetual line crossers and chose to cross the line one time too often... they chose poorly. The ONLY victims were the innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire. The others received what they deserved.
RIOT,RIOT,RIOT!!!It was not a protest.I lived through it.The Americn people need to quit justifing this kind of actions.Govenor John Rhodes did exactally what the situation called for. They are damn lucky that they got away with only 4 deaths and 9 injured.I just hope people learned from this mistake!(RIOT!)
You MUST be a backwoods farmer with no education! My brother, Jim an, architectural student was innocently leaving Taylor Hall as the shots rang out, unaware until a student rushed in with a warning. Gov. Rhodes, the murderer, should rot in hell for that decision!
You simply MUST be OUT OF YOUR MIND! Not only did they shoot kids, they tried to enter Residence halls with guns too. My brother lived it! He nearly died there just being on campus. You need a doctor!
Civil disobedience is justified in political movements if peaceful means are exhausted. May 1970 was sad; burnings occurred; frustration levels rose to the point of death; the poor fought the war; fortunate sons got deferments. Ultimately, we are sad for not making any difference: today is no different. We polarize ourselves without attempts for middle ground. I mean really. Just read the rants below. Go figure: It is 2007 and we still verbally insult and kill each other. Sad.
How old are you kids--8? Jesus, you have no business making a documentary about Kent State. Those protesters had what was coming to them. It shoul've been 4 dead plus 9 MORE dead. Those people were out of line and NOT martyrs. The lesson is DO WHAT YOU'RE told and don't fuck with the government, or else you'll get shot.
Nixons expansion of the war into Cambodia brought these protests about. I can't blame them for protesting and this event ultimately brought about the end of the war due to the political divisions that it created. People were fed up and as americans they had the right to say so without being killed. The 4 killed were martyrs of the war and they may have kept many more soldiers from dying in a war that the US had no reason to fight.
What PLANET are U ON???????????????? My brother simply went to class and nearly died there, being inside Taylor Hall that day. You must be one of the local OHIO HILLBILLIES!
Dude, holy crap. My uncle was there that day and got shot. You are such an insensitive person! Why would you want to do what you're told anyways? Wouldn't that make us a bunch of brainless morons. Get your facts straight. Holy Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Most of these people have no idea beyond the headline of what really happened there. I graduated from Kent in 2006 I had the opportunity to meet one of the wounded who gave us a walking tour of the campus explaining certain points. and as I said in an above comment the dead were innocent and had nothing to do with the protest. your uncle will probobly confirm that.
It really is well done though, andrewc92. I work in the media (for a newspaper, but have a degree in video/audio production), and it really is well edited and the inclusion of the professor's audio from that day was great too! If you ever want tips on recording narration audio, let me know.
It's a great doc and VERY well edited! Good choice of clips & combination of live and still photography.
One suggestion: The audio was tinny; no low end; sounds as if narrators are 20 feet away from mike; unbalance in volume; poor choice of narrators as high voices add to "tinny" result of mix).
The music selections were an inspired choice. If the audio was re-recorded, it would be worthy of being on broadcast television.
If only the students would have listened to Prof. Glen Frank.I don't feel that the Kent State RIOT's(Let's call it by name.Protest's don't include burning private property)effected the the way the war ended. We all know that if you watch or walk around in the middle of a riot there's a good chance you could be injured or killed. There were no innocent bystanders that day.Everyone that was there that day chose to be there except the National Guard.
Well, since some the people killed were hundreds of feet away from the "riot" attempting to go to class like good like rioters. One of them was a Rotc officer who I'm going to guess wasn't participating in the "Riot". I have no idea what universe you must be too assert that they deserved to died for trying to attend the classes that the university!
You are not informed. There were students in class inside Taylor Hall, their scheduled class, and they nearly were shot. The sculpture outside the hall was riddled with bullet holes, you idiot!
I agree. Wonderful video. Just what is needed to teach people what really happened. The inclusion of the music as well was well placed, and sums up everything in less than 10 minutes, and also is a warning about even our current government (the inept attitude still prevails with everything from the government's response to Katrina to the breakdown of anything resembling a win in Iraq). And let's not forget where President George W. Bush was when Kent State was going on.
A sad day, but the students burned a building, damaged property, rioted and more.
If they did that to my property, I would have had a legal right to shoot and kill.
And I would have done so.
Do not blame the National Guard.
Blame the students.
They started it all.
