I had not heard this version before. My favorite is by Anchorface. This one sets a different mood, a darker heavier one. It is an awesome recording. I like the artwork as well. Although anime is not one of my favorite styles, you have married it nicely to the music. kudos.
These anime/sea shanty crossover videos are absolutely amazing!!! Here's a suggestion: maybe you could dry doing some lovely anime drawings to a song like "Dulaman" from Celtic Woman. It's not exactly a sea shanty but it's an Irish song about choosing between two men and it has a very maritime feel to it. I'm just throwing this suggestion out there, but don't stop making these videos! :D
You've done justice to seamanship with these depictions you've drawn, and really bring the music to life. Your videos are some of my most favorite. I just wanted to say thanks, and to keep it up.
YOu know I thought this was nifty until I found out that the Dreadnaughts did the same song before the animes. Wow my first impresion was hey they came out with a nifty song and then guess what copi it front eh group dreadnaughts
@Gascan, this song isn't about the Bismark specifically. A "bullgine" is a slang word for "engine" and no engine specifically. LordDrakoArakis did post another video called "Anime Boys' Tribute_Sink the Bismark," did you mean to post that comment on that vid?
@Paradoxmagic Actually, he is being flogged with a Cat o' Nine Tails. Flogging was used for a number of minor offenses. Insubordination, mild dereliction, drunkeness, laziness, etc. For more serious offenses he might have received lashes ( from a blacksnake type of whip ), keel hauling, hanging. On the surface the differance between flogging and whipping may seem trivial, but it was far from it. Flogging was very painful. Whipping could be, and often was, deadly or debilitating.
@Paradoxmagic I was hardly splittinng hairs. The differance between "flogging" and "lashing" are about the same relationship as stubbing your toe and getting run over by a train. The reason I explained the differance was in an attempt to give you at least a partial answer to your question. Since there is no way from the video to know what his precise offense was, I was letting you know that whatever it was, it was minor.
@Rikki0 also if a sailor was caught stealing rations, he would be marched through a gauntlet by the Midshipman and crewman charge of his division at sword-point while the entire crew (excluding the officers) would deliver one lash with a piece of un-laid manila rope. an excellent example can be seen in the Horatio Hornblower TV movie The Fire Ships
@ForestGrizzly Because it was he that commissioned the Bismark greatest gunship in history, 16 16 inch radar guided compensated guns each capable of hurling the equivelent of a VW bug into it's target. Countless smaller guns and anti aircraft armamnents and a complement of well over 3000 men. She was a lady one of a kind that this world will never see again. To bad she served an evil master.
kinda strange to see wailing pictures to a song that's about a train :) But still awesome drawings, there were some new ones in this video that i have yet to see :)
@theRekcabofD Well yes and no the first cruise missile as we know it (V2) was developed near the end of WWII however high altitude rockets existed in the 30s because of Werner Von Braun and even earlier the Hwa Cha ala middle ages Korea was the first fielded MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System)
Hmm... I know this particular song under the title of Eliza Lee. A bit different, but then, I guess that's translation for you. *shrugs* Good work all around as usual, and I'll be looking forward to the next one as well. :]
I believe your new video will be very interesting! Hitler's attempt at world domination was a tragic thing, but I'm quite exited about seeing your outlook upon the subject (if that's what it is).
dude, you have no reason to applogize its part of history weather select groups and people like it or not, the nazi's made a damn good vessel in bismark and tripitz
I tend to think that many people overestimate the Bismarck. He isn't nearly as impressive when compared to contemporary ships and knowing the flaws the British still hadn't fixed from WW1. Still, it is an important aspect of history that shouldn't be forgotten. I agree that there is no reason to apologize in any way for this. The song is about *sinking* the Bismarck, and any negative reaction only reflect the ignorance of the complainer. Have you heard the parody "didn't sink the Bismarck?"
@gascan There is no perfect defense, no perfect weapon there is always a chink in the armor. In this case it was her rudder, in any case. There are many things to learn from her design and implementation
@gascan I would like to point out she was the greatest ship the dreadnought class and it took an entire fleet to send her to the bottom. She was feared beyond measure, and had vastly superior weapons in every respect. Her cannons were among the largest ever fielded.
@Paradoxmagic I seriously doubt Bismarck was feared "beyond measure," no more than when sizing up a suitable opponent. And he certainly was NOT the greatest dreadnought: he'd likely lose to the South Dakota class. The Greatest Dreadnought is debated between Yamato and Iowa. Both had bigger guns, thicker armor, better radar, more AA, the list goes on.
BTW, I officially request some Star Blazers (Space Battleship Yamato) and the first part of Robotech (Macross) out of respect for anime history.
@thedictatorfan Bismarck's 5th salvo caused a magazine explosion, sinking Hood. Such explosions are not uncommon on warships carrying tons of high and low explosives: a German battleship and three British battlecruisers and two armored cruisers blew up at the Battle of Jutland, and a Russian battleship blew up at the Battle of Tsushima. Remember, a lucky shot is just luck. Recognize the potential dangers, but don't place undue weight on them: no more than a boxer sizing up a suitable opponent.

Clearly referring to a steam locomotive.Still a catchy tune even if the art has little reflection on the song.GJ
