The MH53 can perfoem more functions do to its greater range and added utility hydraulics system

Why do the USMC 53s go for smaller main fuel tanks w/ jettisonable aux tanks whereas the Navy 53s go for the big main sponsons without an aux tank?

I had good times and bad with HC-4 in Sig. I'll remember my experiences there for the rest of my life. Some of the best people I've ever known. Almost too much fun.

Sure enough! As a Plankowner of HC-4, I'll always remember those times. Of course, we flew the CH53E back then. With over 2000 hrs in CH/MH I can say "what a pig...I mean workhorse"!!

Rusky... These are Navy MH-53E's... Not Airforce MH-53J's and MH-53M's... Notice the lack of radomes on the nose and lack of external fuel tanks on the sponsons... Similar aircraft completley different missions. Navy uses them for airborne sea mine sweeping... This is HC-4 the only dedicated navy h-53 squadron... they were decommissioned after this deployment. But the navy continues to fly MH-53E's

Yes , i can see. -53 is a good workhorse for soldiers. An elder brother for BlackHawk. I love helikopters. Many years ago i flown in a airclub ( russian helicopter Mi-2). Good luck, cleared sky and soft landings !

The helo that is being lifted was from HS-8 back in 2005. They had a minor mishap @ El Centro and screwed up some rotor blades and needed to be lifted out.
