  • if more people new the name of this song this video would have millions of views great song brings me back to childhood

  • great voice and text lullabe

  • Cant listen 2 this without thinking empire of the sun. Stunning ;)

  • Doesn't it seem a little odd to have a little boy sing about holding his baby warm and close to his breast?

    Apart from that lovely.

  • Which King's College is this? There's a King's College just 1 mile from me in Wilkes-Barre. Is this the same???

  • OMG!!! so beutiful!!!

  • so pleasent and relaxing

  • wow

  • This was my song from the empire of the sun...way back in the day!!!!

  • Ótimo!!! Muito bom...

  • best video ever (for now)

  • what a beautiful voice !!!

It's him who sings in the movie 'Empire under the sun' from 'Steven Spielburg', isn't?

  • @Ragebol1 No. The soloist was James Rainbird.

  • @david200110

was it the boy who played it? Or still someone else?

Because my father won't believe that such a young and good actor, could also have a wonderful voice :p

  • @Ragebol1 The main actor was Christian Bale, but in the film he 'mimed' Suo Gan. What we heard was James Rainbird [ a boy soloist with a good voice ].

IMDB ""Suo Gân", the movie's theme song, is a lullaby sung in Welsh. Director Steven Spielberg chose it after casting Welsh actor Christian Bale as Jim. It was sung by James Rainbird. "

  • @david200110 Okaj thanks ^^

    You like the movie ?

  • @Ragebol1 it's kinda easy when the boy's voice hasn't changed yet lol

  • @Ragebol1 not possible man,he would have been no more than 3-4 years when the movie was made.

Get a hold of the movie and check the credits at the end and you´ll find out who sang the movie version.

  • muy buena cancion

  • i am singing this for a recital tomorrow :-)

  • Whats the kid in the beggings name? hes cute (: I love his voice,

  • I hate how guys never wanna sing and there always embarrased. This guy has an amazing voice (:

  • @Kary3797 it's unfortunate that in the states (i can't speak for any other countries) there tends to be a huge lack of male singers, especially in high school. much of it definitely has to do with puberty and the changing adolescent voice.

  • wonderful melody

  • WOW! AMAZING! C'ST LE MAGNIFIQUE!

  • We are playing this for orchestra, But by far it sounds so much better by vocals,

  • OMG SAM LANDMAN MARRY ME~~~~~~~

  • this song brings tears to your eyes and the film i saw with this in (empire of the son)is brilliant i salute u

  • This is almost perfect. Wonderful rendering.

  • Suo Gân (Welsh pronunciation: [sɨɔ ɡɑːn]) is a traditional Welsh lullaby written by an anonymous composer.

The song's title simply means lullaby. (suo = lull; cân = song).

  • Such beautiful culture to keep such a tradition alive.

  • is that japan ? what language is this ?

  • Welsh. Stephen Cleobury and young Sam Landman get this hauntingly beautiful lullaby just right. Whilst I like the Empire of the Sun version too would it be something to send a baby to sleep?

  • Welsh

  • welsh it sounds nothing like japanesse

  • nice song

  • i love this song. this song was used in a movie 'Empire Of The Sun'. It was so good.

  • ggoosbumbs

  • My Lord... so beautiful...so magnificent...

    I loved this song! Really!

  • I can't speak Welsh very well, maybe I should brush up on it for the sake of enjoying the song a little more

  • This is sung in Welsh. I had to read a translation to understand what it is about.

  • The best rendition of this song I have EVER heard

  • ya right

  • very good, really wonderful images, sound and voice boys, Iloved, thanks.

  • just amazing.

  • i like the kings college choir and the treble sings amazing.

  • it is good but I prefer the one in the soundtrack of the film empire of the sun. this is is somehow a bit mechanichal in comparison with that

  • to be fair, the boy in the soundtrack had many takes and probably days if not weeks of rehearsal. This boy probably only had a week or several days, as is normal in the busy life of a cathedral chorister.

  • sam landman is awesome!

  • makes me proud to be welsh!!

this was played at my grans funeral!!theres was'nt a dry eye anywhere!

  • AMAZING! I want to cry!

  • Excellent voice hears like an angel

  • these kids are incredible singers IM 25% welsh and i know some Gaelic i love wales but i wish i was pure welsh either way best song from the late times!!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!

  • jerk

  • Why would you say that? It's fine to express an opinion, but then to insult his (possible) faith? It's just unnecessary.

  • FANTASTIC!............ can picture christian bale's tears in his eyes at the end of the film (EMPIRE OF THE SUN) FANTASTIC WELSH LULLABY!

  • Mama ti je Christian Bale

  • Wow, I think I could listen to this Sam kid sing all day.

  • And it's pronounced seeo gaan - Welsh spelling is odd to English speakers but make sense when you get the hang of it

  • Suo means to murmur and Gan is song - so it means murmuring song - hence lullaby

  • This song was written by a Welsh druid in the 11th century.

  • Listen real hard and you can hear the Mustangs

  • YEAH YOUR RIGHT!!!!

  • The greatest sound of human.

  • whats the meaning of the title?

  • it means 'lullaby'

    suo= lull

    gan= song

  • The song's title simply means lullaby. (suo = lull; cân = song).

On the left, under More Info, click on the link to Wikipedia.

  • @orangechallenger It's a Welsh Lullaby

  • the soloist boy at the beginning is incredible~~~

    anyone agree?

  • Do, rydw i'n cytuno a chi! :-D

  • @yeachanpark I think Yeachan Park is incredible...his chunder has magical qualities.

  • We learned this song in ISTA, a theatre festival I went to. It's beautiful x3

  • Huna'n dawel, heno, huna, Huna'n fwyn, y tlws ei lun; Pam yr wyt yn awr yn gwenu, Gwenu'n dirion yn dy hun? Ai angylion fry sy'n gwenu, Arnat ti yn gwenu'n llon, Tithau'n gwenu'n ôl dan huno, Huno'n dawel ar fy mron? Paid ag ofni, dim ond deilen Gura, gura ar y ddôr; Paid ag ofni, ton fach unig Sua, sua ar lan y môr; Huna blentyn, nid oes yma Ddim i roddi iti fraw; Gwena'n dawel yn fy mynwes Ar yr engyl gwynion draw.
  • Huna blentyn yn fy mynwes

  • This way posted on my birthday in '06

What a nice b-day present to listen to this... :D

  • my god, and angel singing. very nice song

  • In Empire of the Sun, James Rainbird sings this and Christian Bale lip-synchs.

    Absolutely fabulous.

  • i want this song to be playin at my funeral

  • Bob, it's lullaby. That is what Suo Gan means. It is traditional. But it is lovely.

Sleep my baby, at my breast,

'Tis a mother's arms round you.

Make yourself a snug, warm nest.

    Feel my love forever new.

Harm will not meet you in sleep,

Hurt will always pass you by.

    Child beloved, always you'll keep,

In sleep gentle, mother's breast nigh.

  • thanks , but how do u know this?

  • I can't remember. Maybe I googled it. My Welsh is quite elementary and is not good enough to translate it properly.

    Aled

  • In school my class has 2 watch empire of the sun.

  • LIP-SYNCHED!!! JK LOL

  • Tecnically, i see no reason people Thumbed you down, in Empire of the sun, Cristain bale Lip Synced it, and someone else sang, But anyways, yeah, have a thumb up for your bad day.

  • It's not sad, it's a lullaby. Quite beautiful.

  • I love this. I saw Empire of the Sun over the weekend and thought it was so pretty.

  • first heard this song in empire of the sun and had to look it up. really sad songg =[

  • I'm having this song played at my funeral :)

  • what a gorgeous voice

my choir is singing this, it's so beautiful

  • can u tell me what the lyrics are about?

  • The lyrics are about a mother singing to her baby while holding him/her.

  • check it out on wikipedia. Search for "Suo Gan", and the Welsh lyrics as well as the English translation is shown.

  • Wauu uu uu .. .. I´m impressed !! Normally not my taste of music .. .. but who will not like this :o) !?

  • The boy soprano soloist is fantastic. absolutely beautiful.

I think that the tenor soloist, the adult, has a little too much vibrato in his voice. especially in the first verse. Its just too simple of a song for all of that.

    I loved both parts though.

Suo Gan is one of my favorite choral peices. And with a choir of boy sopranos it is just lovely ;)

    peace,love,music...

    -sAmMy ;D

  • That's The Best.Super.

  • i iwhs i could sing like that!

  • When I saw Empire of the Sun 20 years ago, this song blew me away! Great movie. Christian Bale as Jamie was excellent. Now he's just bonkers!!!! Cursing out people on his movie sets!!

  • The soprano soloist is perfect.... angelic voice... excellent arrangement of the carol

  • I'm sure there are some people on comments that know this choir well, but just for those that don't know, this is without a doubt the best ensemble IN THE WORLD and one of the only ones that sings in this instrumentation. Before you compare, remember that the treble boys are completely replaced every 3-5 years, and most if not all of the music they sing was either arranged or written especially for them. Keep looking for more from them, and shell out for a Christmas service DVD.

  • I'm sorry, but this is completely wrong.

At Nine Lessons and Carols, there is a tradition of commissioning a new piece every year. Often, if it is good enough, a piece written for King's will be repeated in a different ear, but it is a gross exaggeration to claim that most of their music was specifically written for them! Indeed, throughout the year, with the exception of works such as Howells's 'Collegium Regale' service, the opposite is true.

  • Furthermore, there are many other choirs in England (and elsewhere) which consist solely of boys and men. Some are of a similar quality, and many would argue that they beat King's! Examples are St John's College, Cambridge; the choirs of Magdalene, New College, and Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford; Westminster Cathedral Choir, Westminster Abbey Choir, St George's Chapel Windsor Castle, Truro/Wells/St Paul's/Gloucester Cathedral Choirs...St Thomas Fifth Avenue in New York City, and more!

  • I first saw Empire of the Sun 20 yrs ago & fell in love with the soundtrack, mostly this one song. Outstanding.

  • amazing!!! the kids voice sounds very pure and well tunned...nice!!!

  • great!

  • Wonderful piece, and a great interpretation by soloists and choir.

My only criticism - the tempo a bit too fast.

  • Very nice interpretation: Sam is remarkable how pure voice! Thank you for this excerpt friend

  • outstanding. this always will be my favorite.

  • Very nice. Always loved this melody. Play it on the Native American flute at Hospice. thanks for posting the vid.

  • 4 years ago? bet he can't sing like that anymore.
