I learn the melody from a Mel Bay Parklot Pickeres Book. I fooled around with the Melody notes and chords I added Dock Boggs style slide. Like on Dock Turkey in the Straw.
I appreciate the anecdote about versions. That is so important. It can be helpful to know how someone "did it" before you for reference, but knowing who you are is equally important.
That's a real good introduction there, the whole video too, but the introduction was perfect.
Personally, when I play it, I don't like playing the whole entire melody note for note ya know? You can still tell what the song is without a doubt but I like to throw in some fast rolls in that you wouldn't expect.
If you take that song and just breeze through it, and it's different but sounds cool, that's the way YOU should play it.
Hi. I agree completely. I actually learned the Alan Munde approach to it from Country Gazette's "Don't Quit Your Day Job". There are so many ways to interpret this simply melody. As long as you achieve the "drive". Munde does long slides from the 2 to 5 on the 4th that really don't have much to do with the melody at all, but are great to play and listen to. Thanks!
Freaking awesome tone on the drum.
