  • I downloaded the .srt file, and I have the .mp4 file of the video I want the closed captions for (it is a public domain video). But I don't know how to link the two files so that the closed captions show up on the video. What steps do I need to take to do so?

    Thanks!

  • Doesn't work now.... wth? I put in the long url & leave everything as is & click download & it just doesn't do anything. I get a white screen & it stopped loading... It was just working yesterday.

  • Awesome. It helps me a lot to learn from Yale's courses. Thanks..

  • Is it possible to fix the script so it is possible again to download transcribed Subtitles? The script does not work on this video-URL for example: EcuK9RcbIws ? Thanks.

  • The Tool "Google2SRT" and the Firefoxaddon "CacheViewer" combined are providing a nice workaround, by the way =).

  • thank you so much, i needed that for a presentation - and by the way you did a nice choice with the music ;)

  • thank you very much!!

  • I used this to rip the subtitles to "Meet the Medic" in all languages, then i put everything in a Matroska-container.

  • Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Is there a way to also get the annotations?

  • Does it work only with .flv files? What if I want to convert the flv to mpeg (to burn a dvd)? Can the subtitles be retained in the mpeg?

  • Managed to download the subtitles just fine, but unfortunately Opera drops the file extension (and adds .torrent for whatever reason), so I don't know which format the subtitles are in. To what should I change the extension manually?

  • @donzv .srt

  • @donzv wondering if once you download the video and burn onto dvd could the closed captioning be turned on and off by the remote control. Otherwise it is really not considered closed captioned.

  • Works Perfectly. I uploaded a video to YouTube (117 MB) in the morning. At 10pm, video auto-transcriber was done with the video. I used your program to 'download' what YouTube SRT-file equivalent of the video; now we can 'edit' that file and 'resend' it to YouTube (or Google Video, or even Google-Docs). This is a tremendous HELP (BIG THANKS). I just hope with ALL the 'new' changes with youtube frontend (& possibly backend) we can still use your efforts. Again THANK YOU.

  • Splendid indeed - works perfectly! Thank you so so so much :) :)

  • why it doesn't work?

  • @xoxochitra What doesn't work? Are you sure the video you're using uses closed captions and not annotations?

  • yes,but still the subt doesn't exist

  • Many thanks! After few days trying to find the way to download youtube subtitles, I find this is work for me.

Many thanks and God bless you :)

  • nice work. Thx vm! But east asian encoding seems to cause problems on the page. Only scrambled txt is displayed for the subtitle track selection.

  • Hi, how can I download the only the subtitles of a video on Youtube that are visible after played the key on the "CC" - Close Capton? There are two options after this icon is activated, transcribing audio - Beta, or translate subtitles - Beta. These features greatly facilitate the lives of those who want to use the videos for learning, culture and leisure, for breaking the language barrier. Well, I'm in wait and hopefully someone knows how to do really.

  • @wpoltronieri43 If you want to use the transcribed subtitles select "English (Transcribed)" as the language. If you want to translate the subtitles, select the language you want to translate to from the "Translate to" list.

  • thnk u so much..so helpful..i'm now able to download the cc :))

  • great video thanks

  • Great stuff, mate! Thanks a gazillion! (Your voice is great. Are you from one of the Nordic lands?)

  • Thank you sooo much..it worked for me..a great big help..thank you! =)

  • Thank you Stonos22 for very helpful instructions. Now I need further help.

I downloaded 9 video movie segments in .flv using "YouTube Downloader". Then I downloaded in .srt the subtitles for each, using the website you recommended. How do I combine the video files and the subtitle files together to burn a DVD to play on my TV. Thanks.

  • @clyffe347 You will have to merge the FLVs into one video (Google for "merge flv") and then merge the subtitles (srt submerge seems to be a good tool to do this, but I haven't tried it). You will then have to download a program that can convert the video to a format that DVD players can understand. ConvertXToDVD is a good program to do that, which allows you to import subtitles, but it is not free.

  • Thanks mate!

  • help me please! when i tried to download the video with cc using the that site it wont work. yes i can download only the srt. format and i can't acces the flv. format because the Download video box won't appear just the subtitle box ..hope you understand what i'm saying.:(

  • @missf08 Google broke the download feature with an update, and unfortunately I had to remove the feature. You will have to find another way to download the videos. I personally recommend the "YouTube Video Download" userscript.

  • @Stonos22 thank you so much :)

  • It works many Thanks

  • Could you make so, that sub and vid name is the same (based on youtube name)?

  • @ArtemRomanov I suppose I could. Stay tuned for an update.

  • why is my one different then ur site? it doesnt show everyhtin only the download bit not the video bit like the one shows urs so wats wrong wiv this?

  • @lilwarrior89 Google broke the download feature with an update, and unfortunately I had to remove the feature. You will have to find another way to download the videos. I personally recommend the "YouTube Video Download" userscript.

  • I want to download playlist. Is it possible?

  • @ArtemRomanov Currently no.

  • Thank you a lot! This really helped me out a lot!

  • Just a heads-up: Transcribed subtitles can now be downloaded again.

  • Mike, your voice is great (Stop that! :-)) and so is your video--thanks very much for posting it. I've been a teacher for 2 decades, and I appreciate your approach...effective. Also, I've had a quick trip down memory lane...just over 2 decades ago I visited your country...wow, I can't believe it has been that long. Best wishes to you and yours from Colorado.

  • @tvswnet You're welcome. Thanks for your kind words! :)

  • thanks mate, working perfectly
