This is a very skewed recap of that episode. There was nothing suggesting that Mercedes dedication to Kurt's dad is what healed him. She was trying to get Kurt that she was there for him when he needed someone, even if she was religious and he was gay, that didn't mean they weren't friends. Kurt had an acupuncturist come in, why aren't you accusing Glee of saying only Eastern medicine works? Where is your study on how effective acupuncture is?

Seriously, did you even watch the episode? The main focus wasn't just about the power of prayer in healing. It was about Kurt finding that even though he didn't believe in God, it would make others around him feel better to pray for his father's recovery. @shakadjdillard good question :) the data from this particular study showed only a very slight negative response to those patients who were aware of receiving intercessory prayer. You can look up the actual study done by the John Templeton foundation, it is free and accessible online.

I do think prayer in general is harmful because it gives the illusion of taking direct action, so it give false comfort and breeds laziness .

I beleive in prayer! I have seen people in my own church miraculously healed! I KNOW that my God is a healing God! My friend had breast cancer..we all prayed for her and the next day it was gone and the doctors couldnt explain it! Praise God! :D

I'm not religious, but when my uncle was dying of cancer I sure as hell wished desperately for him to get better, and sent as much love as I could to him and his family...

A study has found that people will spend less time with an ill loved one if they are fervently praying for them. "Keeping people in your thoughts" only affect you personally, it is a very narcissistic way of "caring." If you want to do something for the patient, physically be there for them.
