There was a number of heavy songs at this time, esp by the Who, the Pretty Things and the Yardbirds. Happenings Ten Years Time Ago and Stroll On actually blew this one away in that regards. The Stones' Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadows was also well heavy.
Anyway, the mods and the blues bands were always well heavier than the Beatles and 66 was their year.
@frankiestrummer by 1966 the beatles were past their "power pop" stage and on to the pshyc. rock of revolver and e.rigby. two different styles. the beatles were beyond this style. they were far from "fucked over".

The band's line-up exemplified the influence of post-war migration on Australian society. All five founding members were from families who had migrated to Australia from Europe: lead singer Stevie Wright and drummer Gordon "Snowy" Henry Fleet were from England; rhythm guitarist George Young was from Scotland; lead guitarist Harry Vanda and bassist Dick Diamonde were from The Netherlands.
Still the premier rock band of Oz in the 60s and really only outdone by AC-DC but then they do have a Young brother in each band and you can't beat rock genetics.
@Terrilliser Actually - The Easys as they were known in the day really rocked. In the late 70's a Melbourne band did a cover of their classic Wedding Ring - and I think they did Sorry Live. They really were brilliant. Divinyls - with Chrissy Amphlett did a cover of I'll Make You Happy. Yes the Easybeats were amazing - Stevie (lead vocallist used to do backward somersaults in front of the drums) . Seen him do it live I think its a shame so much music is formularizd. @SuperJohnnykay I was at Burwood Girls' High School in Cheltenham Avenue. The Easybeats rented a house in the next street. Back in those days it was good clean fun although some girls went back for private sessions and I have no idea what they got up to.
@MariaLawrie ;That was up in Selbourne st or Eurella street, just off Lucas road. Also, to answer hsms question, the Easys left in july 66.They recorded Friday on my mind and the much loved ( by me) Pretty girl.Anyway, see ya.(PS used to be a cover band in 1975 who played Easy songs up at the Burwood Hotel on a friday nights .The Sheaf hotel used to get the crowd, so Rubys, the Bath Arms down on Parramatta rd,and the Burwood fought back by doing up the places)Studio you mentioned must be Alberts.

@leakeg they did get better production methods in the UK and it just wasn't as good IMO. Then again Stevie Wright had stopped writing the songs as well.

I met Stevie Wright in the early 1970's, when he was in the cast of "Jesus Christ Superstar" which was playing at the Capitol Theatre at Haymarket. He was playing a character called Simon Zealotes, and he signed a programme for me. Such a nice person to meet. Thanks Stevie.
Any AC/DC influence here (as in influence ON them! :-) )?! Would have been cool to hear a version of this song with Rob's little brother Angus doing a guitar solo with the late great Bon Scoot belting out the lead vocals!
when I was at school, the Easybeats songs came out and we used to say that the Easybeasts were called that ,but they were hard to beat!!! Remember, they had to outfox the Beatlesin the 60'sThey did fine....

I loved Friday on my mind, and knew the Easybeats had several No 1 hits in australia, but hadn't heard anything other than "Friday" and the the "B" side "Made my bed; gonna lie in it" which is also a good song and deserves to be on You Tube. Thanks for posting this song. The group are great, and I wished I had heard more of their material during the 1960s. Still, better late than never...
This band is my find of the month! By far! And trust me... I search for new bands every single day and most days I come out empty handed... AWESOME! Beat the way I like it...
Stormin song. Apparently (according to Rock Brain of the Universe Glenn A Baker) this song was the first to use a muted staccatto on the rhythm (by George Young) which then became a trademark sound 10 years+ later in new wave.
had no idea who originally did this song. ive listened to flash and the pan for twenty years and this was one of my favorits by salvation army / the three oclock. i never knew this was from the sixtees by some of the guys from flash and the pan!
Mark, check out some early 'Yardbirds', similar band...I'm glad a group like you are keeping the dream alive...or should I say live! Ask your bass player about 'Evil Hearted You', he may not like it...but he was around at that time...Eric Clapton lead guitar!
Hi, just found this, blood shit hot, what a brilliant tune, My bass player was around the same time, he's never mentioned this band, I've got to learn this one, this is fab and gear.
I'm so glad to hear you like "Wedding Ring", that's one of my favorite Easybeats songs! Got into an arguement on the video for that song cause it's live and you can't hear the guitars or bass or words very well. Nice to know someone else thinks it's a great song! :)
I know, right? They just weren't huge here in the states although they did tour the east coast and south. I love their music! You need to find and read Stevie's autobiography Hard Road, it's fantastic and more than a little sad. Nice to hear from another Easybeats fan!!! :)

I really like this band from AUS.
They play with finesse and a kind of playfulness. Very good.
Listened the other day on a band from Sweden THE ZETTLERS.
in the songs "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah".
Amazingly good considering that the tunes was recorded already 1965 and .....they have the same finesse and playfulness as The Easybeats.

The greatest Australian/60s recording ever - honorable mentions:
- Master's Apprentices "Wars Or Hands Of Time" and "Undecided"
-Atlantics "Come On"
-La De Das "How Is the Air Up There?" (Yeah, I know they're from New Zealand...) The Australian LP this was originally on ("Volume 3") is also great.

Fuck Yeah! This is music, not the crap of today (except for The Hives, Eagles Of Death Metal, Arctic Monkeys and the likes)

You hardly hear of the easybeats because angus and malcom later formed the most aswumest rock band in the history of time AC/DC

Angus and Malcom's brother George was in the Easybeats.

Best wishes Mark :)

Hey Mark - you have a few to learn !!
I have the original "It's 2 Easy" album
- would you believe its MONO !!
My favourites are "Wedding Ring", "Come & see her" and "Women"
- you need to add Easybeats to your music list!!!
Stingrayf5b 2 years ago
I've spoke to the lads in the band so hopefully we'll get round to covering one of their songs, what a cool band.
Best wishes
Mark :)

I'm so glad to hear you like "Wedding Ring", that's one of my favorite Easybeats songs! Got into an arguement on the video for that song cause it's live and you can't hear the guitars or bass or words very well. Nice to know someone else thinks it's a great song! :)

Just got 6 Easybeats cd's........Great music, why did it take so long to hear of them?? I rate them right up there with the Beatles!
joannehall2916 2 years ago 3
I know, right? They just weren't huge here in the states although they did tour the east coast and south. I love their music! You need to find and read Stevie's autobiography Hard Road, it's fantastic and more than a little sad. Nice to hear from another Easybeats fan!!! :)
