This is where it all started for me because this was the first version I played. It's hard to believe that was almost 25 years ago. Now I play Test Drive Unlimited 2. My 10 year old nephew actually thought that Test Drive Unlimited was the very first test drive game. But I set him straight.
I used to play this on my Commodore 64. I actually only beat it once... and I was quite drunk... so who says drinking and (Video Game) driving don't mix! Awesome Video! Thanks for the memories! :)
It's the other way around. The development team later went and created "Stunts" and in the mid-90s "The Need for Speed". If you played the first NFS and the vintage TD games, you'll notice that the whole gameplay of NFS "Head to Head" game mode is "stolen" from the TDs. Later, the NFSU was a success because it incorporated the gameplay of "Street Rod", another C64 classic.
I remember when I first saw this game 18 years ago. I was so amazed by the deep commodore sound (beating crappy PC speeker several times) and the graphics especially when entering the gas station. Owning a Spectrum in that time I also admired the fact game was being loaded from famous 1541-II with characteristic noise and flashing. A real C-64 classic presented here.
I remember (i think) test drive 3 where you could land your car on the back of a moving train. It must have been on the pc cos it was 3d. anyone remember this?
Great game! I played this all the time. I think this emulator is running in PAL mode which slows it down a little versus what I remember playing on the NTSC machines. But whatever mode, it is an awesome game especially for the day! :) My favorite car was the Ferrari! :)
Yes before the Gran Turismo era the only place you could drive the cars of your dreams was Test Drive. Test Drive is actually one of the oldest surviving franchises. New titles are released to this day.
Did you pass any low flying planes? :D

Playing this as a kid I thought learning to drive was going to be so hard, seeing how much I crashed.

That was strange, the version I remember playing had at least 3 fuel stops (one was called 'Fuel King' IIRC). nice driving though.
