Okay I've had this video saved onto my "watch later" for around 2/3 months now and I've only just got the courage to watch it... when his voice started breaking down I just burst into tears, I can't imagine the pain he's gone through since Johns death :(
I love this. :,( I believe Paul had two soul mates; Linda and John. I know he loves Linda with all his heart but I believe he truly loved and still loves John as well. They had so much in common. John once said that one of the reasons they had such an amazing relationship is cause they both lost their mothers at a very young age. John mother was killed when he and Paul were already friends. Paul helped John though that cause he knew how he felt. They had the most beautiful friendship in all of
Thumbs up if u cried._____. I did.... John why did u go:(. Harrison why did u smoke so much....:/ I can't stop crying. :(. The Beatles will never die. They will always be number one to me til the day I pass and go to heaven:). And when I get there.. I just wanna see John and george just singing and laughing and talk about the great times they had in the 60s:)
@shelbydee60656 the cancer began in the lungs because he smoked, then traveled to the brain and stomach. ONe can't help but think if he never smoked and gotten lung cancer, he might not of gotten any cancer
And if I say, I really love you and I am glad you came along, try to here that when Sir Paul McCartney is about to cry and dont have a singel tear in your eye, to me, its imposible!
I saw him live in Stockholm for about a month ago, this song and Something almost killed me!
I nearly cry when I hear this song, and this isn't an exception, but who are the idiots who keep talking at the begining and the jerk who waved his hand infront of the camera, let alone act like a moron during an emotional song at 1:10?!?! No one should do this during a Paul McCartney concert. :(
Paul you're the best, is so good to see that after so many years and still remembers John Lennon with much affection and emotion, you also lost his great and faithful companion of his life. Paul never be afraid to express their emotions to people. At that time was in need of a huge hug. We also feel very lack of John Lennon. <3 He will never be forgotten. :( John and Paul Forever. <3
It makes me so sad hearing Paul cry ),; I love both Paul and John. And I still can't stop the tears ),: he has such a beautiful voice. he is truley the sweetest man to ever have lived.
I'm tearing up for him ),: poor Paul, He truley does miss and love John like a friends and like a brother. R.I.P Jon Lennon 1940-1980. I love them both and Paul is the sweetest man in the world for writing this song for John. and I'm still crying ),;
@Raelsalmacis I agree. What is simpler than spelling the name "John"??? Not to mention that Paul did no crying as posted. He wrote the song in 1981 .I think he's come to terms by this performance.
I honestly don't think this performance is about John. It may have been written for him, but most likely he's thinking about Linda when he gets choked up. Wouldn't you say? I mean, WE love John, probably more than Paul. Paul had to put up with John in ways we can't imagine. But, nobody loved Linda more than Paul McCartney. Does anyone understand what I'm having difficulty explaining?
@wrfell i think he sings it mainly for john.. maybe linda and george as well. but mainly john. and i wouldn't even dare say that i love john lennon more than paul mccartney. how could that even be possible?
Only someone who like John lost his own mother too, and so many people loved in his life, George too, could write some things as Paul does, and John did.

Great respect for John and Paul. Paul can sing that song a thousand times and will probably always have that strange emptiness of someone gone who left a permanent mark in his life.

I once had a close friend when I was 6 years old. But unfortunately, he passed away when he was only 8. And until this day, I always think of him and look up at the sky seeing his smile.
There are a lot of people who left comments that can't possibly have their GED . Spelling, wording, etc., embarrassing! Please try harder if you are an adult.
@creatingnine So you're saying Paul McCartney, one of the greatest songwriters of all time, is "shit." You are obviously a very intelligent person, and by that i mean you are mentally ill.
:'( we love you paul! ♥ we wish John was with us to. As well as George. This is such a beautiful song about the brotherly love they had for eachother ♥ If i were in the crowd, i'd wanna jump onstage after Paul was done playing and like give him a hug lol. i seriously would want to though.
I'm just another random viewer/listener,...but I am guessing this was at one of the Amoeba music stores, the one in L.A. I think? This performance says a lot, about Paul's feelings,...probably thinking about George, as well as John.
Paul loved John so much that he can't even sing at a public performance with out crying and I don't blame him also this song makes me super pissed off at mark David chapman :( also where was Paul when he was singing this?
you people are saying john wasn't mentally ill in some sort a way?? well he was.. .if he was not mental then why did he physically abuse Cynthia?? and why did he verbally abuse Julian as a child???no healthy person would do those things. ....we all act like we knew John Lennon really was but in reality NOBODY did.
@Darkblossomxx I think he may have had undiagnosed bipolar disorder, an affective disorder characterized by periods of mania alternating with periods of depression, usually interspersed with relatively long intervals of normal mood............just saying.
@iceseekers John did have problems. He was a mortal being like you and me, not a god. Plus, he once considered putting a cut out of Jesus Christ next to Adolf Hitler. Not to mention, he abandoned his wife and child. He had problems. GET OVER IT!
In the last video the press jumped from asking how he felt, no condolences, then jump to what was he recording all day, to comment what a drag eh. I remember. How's judging someone's after their best friend just died. In your face cold heartless bastards never cared about anyone enough to relate. How'd ya feel?
john had problems before yoko, i think he wanted a mother and she was a mother to him , i think john was smart enough to see things for himself though, I think he just allowed her to lead him away from the gang, they would have reconciled eventually, be happy we have what we got from john and all of the beatles today
That was awesome!..so sweet of Paul to sing a song of how he really feels about Paul, rather than in the earlier years when they were bitter towards each other!..I agree..I love both men and long live Paul!!!
Yesterday i saw him.I cant even express how amazing it was.I can tell you it was/is VERY life changing and inspiring. The best day of my life!!,First ever concert at 13,Im VERY proud to say that!..He played this song..I instintally cried..
John and Paul were soul mates. Problem is that we don't just have one per lifetime. That is why things went so hay wire when Linda and Yoko came along... they were their female soul mates and that takes a lot of patience, understanding and sharing. I cry every time I hear this song. Of all of Paul's work, this is his best.
paul preformed this at yankee stadium a couple days ago, i was one of the lucky ones that got to see it, and it was so emotional, as paul held back the tears while singing it, gave me and the 35,000 people watching chills.
As soon as Paul started getting upset I started to cry even though he has had his fair share of sadness and heartache I hope the rest of his years will be filled with joy , he is one person I never want to see hurting .
I just saw Paul last night at Yankee Stadium in New York last night. I remember him saying something to the affect of, "the conversation I never had with John." Though I sat in the "boonies", there were cameras enlarging the images of Paul. If I were a betting person, I could tell that over 30 years past this horrible tragedy, the loss of John Lennon still aches him. I cried--no other performer has made me cry. Cheers, Sir Paul!
I don't care that they had little spats back in the days of The Four.
I don't care that they were human beings and didn't get along all the time.
I don't care about some of the things John did and said about The Beatles and Paul. The man was sick. Physically, no, but mentally, yes. And it was unfortunate.
They loved eachother more than any of us will ever understand.
I love both of those men :) R.I.P. John and long live Sir Paul<3
@lexlennon00 like many geniouses of his sort, he always had that really iffy unhinged thing about him. And as fame and drugs got more abundant, he kinda lost it. He started saying outrageous things he didnt really mean, a lot of people who knew him say his moods were constantly up and down and you never knew how he was going to react to anything. Paul and the other Beatles had even said it themselves. He just wasn't all there anymore.
It happens quite a bit with musicians unfortuantly :(
@SilenceIsBlckandWhte Your conclusions are mere opinion. Don't state it like you knew the man or had special insight into John's personality. He was complex and could be confrontational or slightly irrational depending on his mood, but saying John was mentally sick is absolute nonsense. And it just isn't true. if anything, John was a gifted observer of the world and the condition he found it in. He had an ability to express his ideas with remarkable clarity that resonated with millions of people
@SilenceIsBlckandWhte Thank you for having the wisdom to see john and paul as the flawed but gifted human beings they were, but i don't think john was mentally ill. he sniped at paul, but was also right that it was time for the beatles to end. deep friendships are complicated, delicate, indestructible. i loathed phony "Forrest Gump", especially sally field, and suddenly there was john lennon w/ cavett, his honesty as refreshing as a dive into a mountain lake on a hot day. he was always so real.
@SilenceIsBlckandWhte So well said. When one considers that many people would end relationships for far more trivial things (cross words or feeling ignored or betrayed), it is surprising how long the Beatles remained a group. I always wondered how John would have reacted if it had been Paul that was killed instead of him. What would John say about Paul? I do feel he would have agreed to do projects similar to the Anthology with Ringo and George. This is one of Paul's most compelling songs ever.
@SilenceIsBlckandWhte Did you just say that John Lennon was mentally sick? Are you comparing arrogance and brilliance with a mental illness? Seriously? You go from saying how human beings will act human and bicker with each other, then you insult John by saying he was "sick / mentally" for not getting along with Paul. give me a fucking break.
@SilenceIsBlckandWhte Okay. I just see a huge difference between saying somebody has problems (which we all do) and saying somebody is mentally sick. That's all.
@SilenceIsBlckandWhte "The man was sick mentally" - so how can you say he "loved" Paul, if he wasn't aware of it? I get the sick mentally part - Yoko establishes that! I think from 1967 forward, John became increasingly jealous of Paul, as Paul grew artistically leaps & bounds over John. Check what charted by composer/writer post 1966 (Paul vs John). John had his activism crap, Paul had his artistry/talent.
@SilenceIsBlckandWhte John was quite intelligent.....especially during his last years...he knew and confused the "system" better than any other artist....while other rock "idols" were just talk-talk..... he actually did something...
when i think about my best pal i dont know for sure the reaction i would have if he was...whatever,all came to my mind,a mix of pain with anger...the world would have a empty space

all my respect to paul!
rest in peace john,
i love you !

I don't care what people say.

@SilenceIsBlckandWhte What do you mean by mentally sick?
lexlennon00 6 months ago
@lexlennon00 like many geniouses of his sort, he always had that really iffy unhinged thing about him. And as fame and drugs got more abundant, he kinda lost it. He started saying outrageous things he didnt really mean, a lot of people who knew him say his moods were constantly up and down and you never knew how he was going to react to anything. Paul and the other Beatles had even said it themselves. He just wasn't all there anymore.
It happens quite a bit with musicians unfortuantly :(
SilenceIsBlckandWhte 6 months ago
@SilenceIsBlckandWhte Your conclusions are mere opinion. Don't state it like you knew the man or had special insight into John's personality. He was complex and could be confrontational or slightly irrational depending on his mood, but saying John was mentally sick is absolute nonsense. And it just isn't true. if anything, John was a gifted observer of the world and the condition he found it in. He had an ability to express his ideas with remarkable clarity that resonated with millions of people
dougalmac54 6 months ago 2
@dougalmac54 thats great. great song, listen to it.
so its my opinion, obviously someone else agreed peacefully to it, let it be.
SilenceIsBlckandWhte 6 months ago
@dougalmac54 irrationality is a mental sickness in ways.
they made their point, just listen to the song.

@SilenceIsBlckandWhte I understand that! :p I was just wondering what exactly you meant... I think he was just a "different" person.
lexlennon00 6 months ago
@lexlennon00 exactly.
It happens all the time with people like that.
Look at Micheal Jackson haha

@SilenceIsBlckandWhte Thank you for having the wisdom to see john and paul as the flawed but gifted human beings they were, but i don't think john was mentally ill. he sniped at paul, but was also right that it was time for the beatles to end. deep friendships are complicated, delicate, indestructible. i loathed phony "Forrest Gump", especially sally field, and suddenly there was john lennon w/ cavett, his honesty as refreshing as a dive into a mountain lake on a hot day. he was always so real.
moiraregis 5 months ago
@moiraregis And thank you for not being rude! There is way too many people on here who are just that.
Mehh, I dont really care anymore, I just miss the guy, I miss George too, I miss the beatles.
But all good things must end, if they didnt, we wouldnt have the opportunity to look back and think "wow, they were incredible" like we do now.
The fact that they have come and gone and never died away, it just makes them more special<3
SilenceIsBlckandWhte 5 months ago 2
@moiraregis Oh, and beautifully written, by the way :)
SilenceIsBlckandWhte 5 months ago
@SilenceIsBlckandWhte So well said. When one considers that many people would end relationships for far more trivial things (cross words or feeling ignored or betrayed), it is surprising how long the Beatles remained a group. I always wondered how John would have reacted if it had been Paul that was killed instead of him. What would John say about Paul? I do feel he would have agreed to do projects similar to the Anthology with Ringo and George. This is one of Paul's most compelling songs ever.

@SilenceIsBlckandWhte Juhn wasn't sick..Yoko brainwashed him!..She was a flipping psycho!
lindsys11 4 months ago
@SilenceIsBlckandWhte Did you just say that John Lennon was mentally sick? Are you comparing arrogance and brilliance with a mental illness? Seriously? You go from saying how human beings will act human and bicker with each other, then you insult John by saying he was "sick / mentally" for not getting along with Paul. give me a fucking break.
iceseekers 4 months ago
@iceseekers He did have problems, WE ALL have problems.
I didnt mean it as an attack. former beatles said it himself, he was sick, he wasnt himself anymore.
It just the way things are.
Relax.
SilenceIsBlckandWhte 4 months ago
@SilenceIsBlckandWhte Okay. I just see a huge difference between saying somebody has problems (which we all do) and saying somebody is mentally sick. That's all.
iceseekers 4 months ago
@SilenceIsBlckandWhte John was NEVER nuts...addicted sometimes...never mentally ill.
lumeriam 4 months ago
@SilenceIsBlckandWhte "The man was sick mentally" - so how can you say he "loved" Paul, if he wasn't aware of it? I get the sick mentally part - Yoko establishes that! I think from 1967 forward, John became increasingly jealous of Paul, as Paul grew artistically leaps & bounds over John. Check what charted by composer/writer post 1966 (Paul vs John). John had his activism crap, Paul had his artistry/talent.

@SilenceIsBlckandWhte the man was sick? the is an insult to john and all lennon fans
sfm1967 4 months ago
@SilenceIsBlckandWhte John was quite intelligent.....especially during his last years...he knew and confused the "system" better than any other artist....while other rock "idols" were just talk-talk..... he actually did something...
