Well, it's fun and I like to mess around with it, but I wouldn't write a song around it. You don't get this sort of freedom with a metal fingertip or a glass tube on your finger.

I dont know, the type of slide guitar Ben Harper plays, he seems to still have freedom around the neck, but i agree with you about how Derek Trucks plays slide guitar, he seems to be more restricted, still good, but it does seem like he doesnt have enough freedom to do more.

I have mastered this song not at all.

Which noise? Oh, the sniffle..., It was a nervous thing I did, I was trying really hard to get it right, and so I'd hardly breathe. The fact that the sniffle is in time to the song speaks for my devotion and concentration in playing the song. But it is pretty awesome huh.

Sure is. This is an old recording though. Clarity is really lacking in the beginning percussion and in all those too-quiet right hand notes.

I also figured out how he got that nice smooth transition from the main theme to the slow bit after it! It sounds really slick now.

Criticism is no problem for me, I take as much as I give, and it really doesn't matter if they're doing it out of spite or wanting me to improve, because it's still an opinion.

what I'd really like is to see some of these guys giving me these great and advanced critiques here on youtube, an example for all these amateur coverers (like me) to go by.

Another note, there are probably tons of people with much less of an ego who can play these kinds of songs a lot better than any of us could, but haven't even had the thought to add to this menagerie of bad covers.

This is probably because they don't want to show anyone how well they can play it, they likely just play it for fun.

Okay, I have to explain myself on this. If you got me talking about the finer points of this recording, I could go on forever about tone, bad notes, and the soullessness of it. It took me at least a year to get this song right. I started out with incorrect rhythm and almost no technical skill. I obsessed over getting it correct, and it still isn't perfect, but it's what I've got.
