Domination through physical force or violence does not merit respect, but submission. Why is it wrong for a cop or teacher to abuse power, but not a parent? Becoming accustomed to pain at the hands of those whose were assigned to protect is reason to question the method.

My parents use to beat me when I was a kid. But I was a damn good kid. They would beat me for stupid reasons like if I accidentally dropped a glass of juice or if I left the lights on. I thought about turning them in but decided to tough it out until I was older to get my own revenge.
My dad put me in kick boxing to make me more of a man, according to him. I guess it worked. When I was 15 I gave him a beating he'll never forget. Ever since he's been scared of me. It's been 9 years.

In your case if your dad said you couldn't wear it then it wouldn't matter what the girl down the street was able to do. And every child, ESPECIALLY a teenager isn't as self aware and conscious as you are. Some teens need that discipline while others do not. Plus a lot of it has to do with your overall environment.

I much rather a spanking than say, a ruler across the wrist or knuckles, or a paddle, I mean for all the people saying this is abuse it's LIGHT compared to what goes for punishment in traditional christian households, (notice Traditional), or Catholic Schools. I can't tell you how many children have been taken by dss for "spankings" one mom ment to hit her daughter in the butt missed and got her in the back. Poor little girl got her faced smashed on the ground. Mother was charged with child abuse even though it was an accident. Leaving cuts, open wounds, marks that do not fade in a day or so, black eyes, broken limbs, missing teeth, THAT is abuse. I only heard "Go outside and get me a switch" three times as a kid, my mother's word was law and I did not talk back. Tried once as a teenager and mom cut that real quick, I love my mom to death she kept me on the right path.

The book of Proverbs contains 5 verses that reference using rods to discipline children. Ironically the author of the book of Proverbs, King Solomon, was a known child abuser. Notably, I can assure you that most of the kids, (if not all), that I see in my office who "talk back" and give their parents grief have, in fact, been spanked and spanked. It's bad because it teaches kids to use fear as their guide instead of their intelligence. And that's bad because eventually the child will be faced with choices where the consequences do not include being hit, thus, in the absense of fear the child is more likely to make the wrong choice.
