@GordonEdward Yes, if all is quiet, it didnt help that the sound was reflecting off the window i was shooting through. It has a rechargeable li-ion but it wont charge through standard usb, it has a special 3.7 V usb charger
I just bought this camera and I see you said that your battery lasts forever. Mine doesn't but I am recording in mostly HD I was wondering if you knew if how you record makes a difference in battery life. I am planning a trip to Disney so need it to last all day...might buy an extra battery off ebay or something.
hmm wow, i used mine for an entire day of filming a snowaboard trip and it didnt show any signs of losing a charge (even though i was in 20 some degree weather which is horrible on battary life) I have only ever recored on the HD quality level, so i cant say i know of any difference, everything in that camera is digital except the focus motor, so its like your powering a cellphone.. I suppose u could snag an extra of ebay, good luck to you!
THX 4 sharing this video (lol on the coke one). The outdoor is nice and saturated, indoor obviously needs work (maybe rigging some sort of led lighting), the chopyness however, is that in all your video footage?
I know this is just a point and shoot, but I would like smooth frame rates.
the choppiness is exaggerated in you tube's "high quality" flash converting codec, otherwise, there is not a noticeable difference except when you have image stabilization on (which i did throughout the video) This was kinda a point and shoot test
it is noticeable when it is quiet, and it is constantly focusing to, so a dead silent room turns into a low hum...but it is hd and its sometimes under 130 so just but some light music on the video if ur filming indoors
oh come on, at least we are matching the desert ensemble of natural sugar (the fruit) with the synthetic sugar (the fruit cocktail syrup and marshmallows) .. idk about sugar in meatloaf and lasagna
Sorry about the late reply, Battery seems to last forever, I don't charge it too often. It has trouble with deciding what to focus on in the dark, if a lot of glare is present in the shot, just give up, if its just a dark sky or overlooking a city, it handles pretty well.
Appreciate the comments...unfortunately, the quality of this camera is pure CRUD! I had these weird LINES going through the lens & also through recorded video (if it was just the cam's lcd, I would've put up with it). It was TOO noticeable in nighttime/inside the house shots...I got an RMA & am returning today :o(
yeah, as a point and shoot its not bad, i was able to throw it in my moms hands when i got to watch a video of my car graduation present and it worked fine (except for the low light) if you want something really High quality, avoid this, if you want a small step up from a picture camera's movie feature, this is an OK substitute
It is amazing how quiet these new flash cameras are though (withught moving parts other than zoom). I am use to Mini DV camcorders that you can almost hear the tape turning. I just purchased a Canon HF-10 and cant wait to try it out.
if you are in a dead quiet room, yes there is a low hum that is audible, otherwise there is no noise. The on board microphone is not that good, I'm looking into somehow adding some kind of windscreen / wind muff so that it doesnt sound like a tornado in a car or in a slight wind.
really depends on if you have image stabilization on. If no stabilization, around 30-40, with it on it sometimes drops to 18-20ish if there is bad lighting...like in my video.
Hey callan752, Did you load the camera's format up to youtube or did you convert it to another format before uploading? Also did you use the supplied software to upload or did you go to youtube to upload it? My sample upload is smaller than yours and I was wondering why... Thanks..
I copied the video in its entirety to my computer, then uploaded it. So yes I bypassed all the software that came with it. Besides the fact it doesn't like Win XP x64 that much.. :s
I am capturing to an A-Data turbo speed edition 16 gb sd card. I also just opened the sd card and copied the file. As much as i do like arc soft, if you want super quality, u gotta do old school drag/drop or copy/paste...(ps I splurged on a 16 gb sd card for $25 off new egg, but it only registers as 6.5 hours, thus an 8 gb sd is the optimal choice, but make sure it is either class 3 or some kind of professional or turbo speed version.
Hey i have the same video camera. but i have a problem. i cant pop off the lens or metal thing on the front to change the lens. Do you know how to? If i dont find out how, i cant take very good wide angle videos... for when i film skateboarding.:(
It does not support any other lens but the stock lens that comes standard, so stop torquing your camera and either get a new camera, or do what i would do, use electrical tap, and make sure there are no light cracks... It will look pretty bad up close, but from a distance electrical tape doesn't look too unsightly.. Hope this helps!
agreed. if you wanna point and shoot this is a gem. If you want to do anything semi professional i wouldn't recommend it, but i think I will try some stuff for fun.
30 fps doesn't make sense to me. tv runs at 29.97 fps. if it were a steady 30 fps i don't think we should see any freezing or chopping. in this video the chopping seems to be gone when viewed in the low-res mode. could be flash player, it has trouble playing HD. too CPU heavy. even on my dual core machine hulu's HD snags. however in another video i saw frame issues even in low-res. so the question is: are there issues with frame rate chopping? because i'm about to drop 140 on this camera. thanks
also i notice the image seems to stretch or tear around 24 seconds when the camera moves. is it like this in the original video or is this youtube? just trying to make a good decision on my purchase, i know i can't expect much for 140 so trying to decide if it's worth it. overall i'm pleased with the image quality
i notice the image gets bouncy when it is zoomed in, i saw it in the woot! video of the cows, but it might just be the person's movement, I guess i need to use a tripod.
i just watched the raw 115 meg file of this and there is no chopping at all. It seems that either or both digital and optical zoom make the camera like just levels of zooming.. But what you are seeing is some problem with flash. I am using Google chrome, on xp 64bit utilizing a 2.3 ghz quad core phenom w/6 gb ram and 2 crossfire (linked) hd2600 512 for 1gb of gpu memory overclocked... so the point is that i think it is youtube's "HD" or the rendering capability of flash or the browser.
Callan752, I got mine yesterday, and just FYI, in your videos you tried some close up's. Remember for the best close up images you'll have to switch to "Macro" mode. And, it seems to me that the "freezing is a clipping issue from panning the camera too fast for the 30fps. I'm not sure yet, as I haven't loaded my videos off my camera yet.
ok macro for the computer screen right? i had totally forgotten about that, i just wanted to see how it would work with point and shoot. Thanks though. I experience some clipping when stabilizaziton is on and i pan quickly, i think it is just native to the technology though. Any way thanks again
8 because the buttons are kinda awkward to push and the light only works for the picture camera and not the video camera :( on the + side though, it records in an nice format, it doesn't make massive files and it has a steady camera setting that averages your movements and keeps the camera still. Good for caffeine crazed twitchers like me
Does it always make that noise when zooming in on an object? What type of batteries does it take?

Hey 2 questions (hoping U can answer really soon since I need this camera for a June Puerto Rico trip)
How long does the battery typically last on a single charge?
Does it have a light for dark/night shots? No mention of it at the vendor I'm looking at.
