I have 4 large rainbow sharks and 4 albino rainbow sharks in my 120 gallon, I've had them all for years, started in a 90 gallon with 5 rainbows and 4 albino only lost one and he was biggest I had ever saw, about 6"-7" long, check out my channel. also have had redtail sharks, in my luck you can have only one,and don't put them with rainbow sharks. however my brother has always maintained 4 redtails in his tank with out problems.
they are definitely fighting. I have kept red and rainbow sharks for years. red tailed and rainbow sharks are pretty much the same fish, just slightly different species. I had 3 rainbows once from the pet store and only one remains... he killed the other 2 after about 3 months. red tailed sharks are slightly less aggressive but should still be careful when keeping more then one. NEVER keep them in schools! in nature they live in fast moving streams and are solitary fish.
30gallons per shark at tht size but they will get bigger then you need to seperate them. Or Just let them fight and whoever survives gets the tank lol.
swear to god use are losers ive had my rainbow sharks in the same tank for about a year and half with all different fish
silver sharks
guppies wild and fancy
tiger barbs ,moss barbs
loaches
and a turtle
although the turtle had eaten all the guppies the rest remaind and my rainbow sharks just play all the time oen of the sharks is twice the size of the others and just now tongiht they were mating as one was under the other with bellys touching swimmin slowly so rainbow can be together
You can have more than one if you get them at the same time, from the same store, in the same tank....just like how you can have multiple oscars in the same tank
you have to keep red tail sharks like clown loaches. not only one but 5-8.so they are able to distribute their agressions. you all have to do more research
they are actually fighting your only supposed to have one unless you have a monster tank for them to find grazing areas on the other sides of the tank, they will eventually exaust one another and die.
hey please take the time and look at my tank i will appreciate it /watch?v=cR40mGzrwVY <-- copy i have a rainbow shark with danios and a pleco please support me
you shouldn't ever keep more than one rainbow shark together in a tank, they will kill each other. Which is also why you can't mate them in an aquarium.
@rootbeer2551 30 gallons per Shark in not a rule. If you want 2 Sharks, you need a 6 foot tank so they can establish their territories and they are still going to fight when they run into each other just not as much because of a bigger tank.
@rootbeer2551 30 gallons per shark you crazy? thats a waste man it sounds nice but if u have a 90 gal and you get only 3 sharks waste. The gallon rule per fish is stupid like how dumb ppl that doesn't have fish tanks go to youtube and always comment, ohemgee 30 gallons per goldfish. Sure I'm sure you can afford a 90 gallon tank for some three fat goldfishes.
just like people and dogs some get bad reps. i have a betta that litterly doesnt do shit. had a betta two femal bettas and a pleco sat there and didnt move just floated by the top. now i have the bettas and pleco i now have five tetras (the blue shiney ones lol :))
three orange platy's and a red tailed shark in a ten gallon. living peicefully :) i know by the way that i should transfer the shark but hes brand new and i will when he starts beating the others up or grows larger.
ive had 2 rainbow sharks for 3 years and never had them hert eachother craz little fuckers just play rough. convict texas and flowerhorn dont mind them ether
So I recently picked up a couple fish at my local pet store. I picked up two rainbow sharks, and two bala sharks. I know, I know I didn't do my research first but I did ask the sales associate if they would be ok together and they said yes. So I took them home put them in the aquarium I had previously set up. Now as I've read up online and comments on here these are not great fish to put together. I came home today and one of my bala sharks is dead. So these two fish should not be together?
@imported101 Ehh, first problem is your balas. They need to be in large groups because they're schooling fish. If the tank is big enough 120+ gallons, then they should stick to their own business. Besides, Bala Sharks grow up to 18" long, and need to be in a 120+ from the start.
that is 1 redtail and 2 rainbow...The redtail will probably eventually kill those smaller rainbows..
I had a huge rainbow almost kill my l red tail a couple years ago...Now The Red tail is by himeslf with no other sharks...He's like 5.5" now. aggressive fish.
@ThePopcornWeasel actually that is not true. if you get 1 -3 of them they will become enemies, nd the bigger one will kill off the younger one. but if you get a larger group like 6-8 of them, they are a lot more friendly with each other because they have more friends who will look after them!
@ThePopcornWeasel not true, the 1 red tail black shark is just trying to show he is the boss around the sharks. rainbow sharks and red tailed black sharks dont get a long with each other. so since the red tail black shark is out numbered, it will try to show its dominance to the other fish and to the two rainbow sharks
man sweet i love rainbow shark and i have 6 of them and i am trying to find red tail shark but you have a problem you have clown knife fish and Iridescent Shark which is no good because they grow up fast i used to have Iridescent Shark same size like this and after 3 month its has tall like my hand's tall size
Michael7klufas6 is right. iIhad two in a ten gallon tank and they started to fight, which is what i was told might happen, so i put them in a 50 gallon with some other fish and they do fine now.
its not good to have those sharks in the same size tank. RTS are loner sharks unless you have a big enough tank. there territorial range is 25 gallons. so if u have like a 55 gal ur good.
continued - it is possible as long as you keep conditions in the tank acceptable (no half arsed cleaning will be tolerated as it will lead to stress and aggression), dont keep to many smaller fish in the tank or if so introduce a rainbow/red tailed black shark at an early age to the other tank mates.
p.s. red tailed black sharks will grow 4-6 inches and are more aggressive, however same tank setup and other previously stated information applies.
to all those who have question about rainbow/ruby sharks (have had 12 in my experience)
rainbow and red tailed black sharks should be kept separate and singly, they both require a minimum of a 3ft tank and will grow to 8-10 inches. if put with the right fish they can be quite peaceful among other species but will become territorial/aggressive as they grow and for those of you wanting to put smaller fish with these, continued on next post
Boys have dleder bodies....I have a question how big were your gold fish that got eatin..my red tail is young my rainbow shark is older and a bit bigger he's dominate but I think my red tail will be dominAte when he matures
2 or more red tails will fight as you can see here, this is actually cruel for the fish! ....silver shark's can reach upto 18" long, altho pretty peacefull fish wont enjoy being chased by a red tail! LOL.. 3 silver sharks and 1 redtail, 1 rainbow and maybe a nice pleco.....silver sharks are best in groups of 3-4... 150 gal is a nice size aquarium m8 :)
You must have 1 shark per aquarium. Unless the aquarium is about 125 gallons or more. If you don't seperate them, then they will never stop fighting and it can be stressful to watch. As the sharks get older, they become even more aggressive and hostile.
my rainbow behaves himself cause hes kept with tough cichlids and semi aggressive barbs and large tetras. but today he is going in to my jack dempseys tank cause hes annoying my plecs so will he survive . hmmm.. i will find out.lol
nope after about 2 days the blood parrots ripped his head clean off and the jack dempseys and oscars finished him off lol, ive got different fish now anyway.
