Why did they do the dance? Because dances at the end of Bollywood movies have been a tradition in the industry, and Indian moviegoers have come to expect it so that the movie ends on a lighter note. Agreed, as someone who has never been really into Bollywood films I didn't particularly enjoy it, but I think to say that the reason it's in the movie is because these people are uneducated (speaking of which, it's "ridiculous") is completely out of line.
