BEST ANSWER on this subject: I do not like to get in the habit of saying one style is better than others. In regards to karate as a sport-I believe tournament compeition, that while it has some benefits, it does create a mindset and habits that will not work for actual combat. I also agree that when you can not attck the joints, eyes, throat, fingers, groin, etc that a true martial artist would not be able to effectively use their style.
Quiz: I always would like to know this answer: In a real fight to defending his life, who has the winner's advantage? A master of karate with full knowledge of kata's bunkai and makiwara experienced or a Wing Chun master trained in wooden dummy (mudjong).
In my opinion this completely perverses wing chun, and whatever other martial arts he's claiming to have encorporated into this set. Why change what doesn't need changing?
Hello sir...I hit my wooden man in a nice and hard in a style very similar to yours, as a result my for-arms and up[per arms have toughened to take the impact.. however, I must admit, I have kept a top training pad on the dummy to protect my elbows, how do you toughen your elbows?, mine are still getting badly bruised and swelling up grotesquely even WITH the pad, I'm a little concerned I might be doing some permanent damage to them.
@homerbear46 dit da jow, before during and especially after your training. it will help with the immediate effc\ects of hard training and heal you up overnight so you can do it again the next day. it also helps in conditining the skin, muscle and bone.
I WAS actually "hardening up" (that's what SHE said) quite nicely until last week when I stuck a knife into my hand (10 stitches in my palm) and have had to take a couple of weeks off the "Woody Harrleson" until it heals a bit.
I shall look at this "dit da jow" in my recovery-period :-)
Sifu Somonet I met you at the Dragon fest many years ago and you liked my set i performed on your dummy . I enjoyed meeting you and you were very open . I i put my dummy on you tube if you look up Sifu Jack Soderberg you will see my long range and short range dummy..I trained with Grand master Wai Lun choi and Sifu Danny inosanto .Dan liked my four range dummy.. Danny trained with my teacher he said he was one of the best .His book is real gold does not fear the fire. great demo sifu .
Excellent Sifu. As a fellow Sifu, I always enjoy your articles in IKF magazine and showing them to students. Keep writing them and I'll keep reading them. Best of luck.
dude form is a joke if he has been doing it that long, u don't lean into the dummy and going that fast makes him sloppy. Watch Ip Man and the way he flows through the set
That's why Bruce Lee was so fast, he practiced wing chun for all those years. He moved so fast, there was no way I could see how you could perry and counter his strikes. You'd have to do it by practicing drills for years with someone with that speed until it becomes instinctive to follow moves that fast.
HEY have some respect for IP MAN. kung fu doesnt care about race, religion or any of that bull shit cause when it comes down to it its ether you or the other guy.
akbar is a rascist scumbag and your are well just stupid... i have studied wing chun for 20 years and im white, no one not even YIPMAN kicks my ass that easily, when i meet him in the next life i wont have an ass to kick , only a very determined SPIRIT
if you read this you die tonight. There was guy named james who was told if you say bloody mary three times in the dark in a bathroom you die. So he tried it he was found dead a hour later in the bathroom. Post on 5 other videos or die
but is it possible u stand a little to much on ur front foot, my friend?
I mean stance is so important, isnt it? u even would get ur chin a little more away from opponent or dummy if u would lean a little more back,or stand just straight....
in slow mottion u can see it pretty well, where u use ur elbow almost all ur weight is on front food, not nessesary is it?
still very nice to watch, I like wooden dummy training much, thx for the vid
the "girl" is Addy Hernandez. a very accomplished martial artist in her own right. she has aided Mr. Simonet in many vids and demos. saying he needs to take it easy on her is a sexist attitude imo.
Joseph, I am a Wing Chun trainer from Australia, your techniques are ingenious, I enjoyed your wooden dummy drill, you are an inspiration to us all. Bow
The "one tool for many jobs" or seamless integration from empty hand to blade to club applications of this training is astounding. It's amazing how adaptable it is to your weapon, range, or circumstance all within the same drill set.

your wing chun has some fundamental flaws, for example- you're leaning into the dummy and your head is like inches from the arms.
stay vertical and keep weight off your front leg.

errrr when people fight they attack the head or body not the arms.
this stuff will get you hurt
badger09876 2 years ago
well could you continue to hit someone with a broken arm?
bedboundmonkey 2 years ago
essentially.. hurting someone is a natural cause of attacking someone
Insanitea 2 years ago
It's hilarious to see a small person "attacking" such a bigger person.

The man looks decent , his ideas sound good but his execution is poor in technique. It lacks detail of motion and fluidity.
