  • Song name , please

  • my dad preordered a grand national in 1986 and still has it only now it pushes almost 400hp i gtg get my stang up there!

  • I get to see this car every Monday night along side of about 700 other classic cars! Its called Mark's Cruise Night in Conneticut. I love that body style!

I always wanted a GNX or a Cutlass Supreme! :)

  • Theres no replacement for displacement

Unless you own a GRAND NATIONAL!!!!!!

  • Have anybody bought this Buick car before.

  • @alanisgirl2010 my dad bought a buick grand national in 2000

  • back when buick was more than an old person car

  • @kuhndog52 now buick is a luxury car

  • I WANT HAVE THE CAR

  • i got an 1985 grand national 454 heads cams turbo t top bad looking car

  • @dkdarocka Ruined it..

  • @wildkyler95 ahaahaha how?? i have the original trans and engine ahaha no worrys

  • @dkdarocka Ohhh, xD alot of people want original xD

  • image with v6 now producing 300hp stock what something like this would do

  • @cappsoutlaw it's like the new SHO taurus with just a computer tune running mid 12 sec 1/4 mile. From what I've read, ford is toying around with the idea of it getting 400hp from the factory.

  • I have had a love affair with regals my whole life and when the Grand Nationals came out iwas only 14 years old. I owned many Buick regal Ltd's and in 2005 I finally got my hands on a 1986 Grand National. I restored every peice of this car with OEM parts and I have to say It is Awesome. I have 3 muscle cars and I have to tell you this car is the one that turns everyones heads. Classy & Quick, what a combination ==============

  • This car truly became a legend in it's own time when Car and Driver road tested it on a cold 35 degree day in Detroit and the Buick turned in a 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds. This was one of the most highly desired performance cars of the mid eighties given that no car in it's class even came close in terms of acceleration.

  • I'll trade my 1.8 VW Jetta in when Buick comes back with this :)

  • "No time for chrome"

    :)

  • @Krusnik1 there was no 85 GNX only made in 1987 production was just over 500 and they didn't have 400 horses stock they had 240 or 245 in the last few years of production. GNX had 276hp

  • @TR4GTOLS1 he might have referred to the GN or he was a fool to buy a GN with a GNX badge on the front

  • @TR4GTOLS1

1985 GNX? That guy is a tool. Dont lie on the internet, it's just not cool.

  • @TR4GTOLS1 Yep, I clearly remember the 87 was the only year for the GNX, as I was a senior in high school when it came out (and reading about the limited production and the "dealer premiums" on the price tag because of it's rarity). Most ended up being garaged, but I remember in the early 90s, talking to a guy at the gas pumps who drove his daily and was racking up the miles... Cool car!

  • I own an 85 GNX.....0-60 is pretty impressive, but it really comes alive from 55-100 when it hits second gear...and at peak boost it's almost scraping 400 stock....and it's not a 1.8L, it's a 3.8L

  • these cars still are just so much more badass than other cars on the road. i want one very badly

  • This car is so nice, i have only seen one in person. I would LOVE to have one of these, it's one of my favorite cars. I wish they still made them like this :(

  • HD/HQ PLZ!

  • 200hp...GM truly under rated this car in order not to make the Corvette look bad of the same year.

  • @Naturalhit Very true !!

  • @Naturalhit - You are right. GM underated the horsepower so that people buying the car wouldn't have to pay out their ass for insurance. Buick's high end GNX was estimated to have put out over 300 HP, but they downgraded the horses on that too..

  • There's a 87 regal for sale near my house. Its not a GN, but it has better then adverage chance of having the 3.8. And a turbo is as easy as the local U-Pull-It.

  • @CamaroAmx - If it's got the turbo buy it. The regal couple withthe turbo was the poor man's Grand National. You got the same potent motor, without the price and without the insurance headache...

  • Nice girl at 0:16 to 0:20 - yeah I'd really rather have a Buick too!

  • Buick needs to be like this again! I like the girl at 0:16 to 0:20.....

  • Yep !!! I remember that one "No time for Chrome" 25 years ago.

  • Ah, gotta love 80's commercials. They kicked ass.

  • What a great car!! Back in 1985,I bought a brand new 1985 GN and drove it as a daily driver until I traded it in on a brand new 1987 GN. The '87 will literally smoke the '85,but both cars are still awesome. I still have my '87 GN today. No,it's not for sale.

  • I'd really rather have a Benco.

  • Woooow...that was cool. Buick made such a basic boxy sedan into the meanest intimidating car of the 80s

  • so much better looking than anything made today.

  • cool commerical

  • Grand Nationals rock i would love to have one their fast as f*ck and police used em

  • Cool commercial, too bad the audio is distorted from being too loud.

  • 1.8l? are we talking about a Skyhawk here or the Grand National? GNs were 3.8L. but i do agree with u that there arent any 1.8L making 355ft/lbs, not factory anyway

  • Someone mentioned that a NA 1.8L makes 210hp, present day, making comparison to the 200hp cranked out by the 85 GN, as advertised in this commercial. SlickRaccon, is the originator of the comparison and that is how it all started. Sorry for any confusion, I wasn't saying that the GN had a 1.8L.

  • it is a 85 dude. 245 was the HP for the 87 i should know i ordered one.

  • Yes, I think 200 HP was for '85, they upped it for '86 and then the final year of prod. in '87 was putting out 250 HP. The GNX was rated at 275 - but most agree that the rating was underrated. The '87 250 HP GN was still a bruiser and can beat out other modern cars in the 1/4 mile that are rated over 300 HP.

  • As mentioned below, the low-end torque is what gives the outstanding quarter mile performance. Launching these cars is so much fun, with drag radials of course. Regular street tires you just do a long burnout.

  • Low end torque !!! Are you kidding me ??? These cars couldn't spill a cup of coffee until the turbo spooled up. Old Cadillacs make "low end torque". it's the mid and top end that shot these cars down the quarter.

  • go look at the torque hp curves, tell me where the GN produces most torque - rpm range. Beside ever hear building boost at the line.

As far as "top end", put this car against a Supra, it smokes the supra off the line like nothing, but the supra can catch it. How is it that the GN smokes it off the line, torque, low end torque. What gives the GN it's awesome acceleration?

  • I'll tel you how, a 3.06:1 first gear and a 3.73:1 axle ratio. My GN couldn't break em loose in a puddle until it spooled up. Car was a pooch and made no power below 2000 rpm. To put things into perspective, I have never lost a race on the street to a Grand National. But then again my pump gas street tire cars never ran slower than low 12's .

  • @biscaynenick youre comment made my night lol unless worked on you werent pulling better than 15 sec qm

  • 300 hp is what i heard. from the 3.8T right?

  • do u have one?

  • it makes like 250hp fellas. the GNX pushes out 300hp in 87.

  • bull shit? time's change. it's a good collector's car , but thats it...... i love the car, dont get me wrong, quarter mile's is all it does, that's it ???

  • I wish you could spread that word around, so maybe these wouldn't be such hot items to steal. I know 5 guys that have had theirs ripoff at gun point.

  • also these cars are rediculously over priced right now, they went up like an extra 10k in the last 2 years, there is really no reason that they should cost more than they were worth brand new, especially the ones with over 100k miles

  • I paid 13k for mine last year. Mine was a very clean and close to stock with 65k miles on it. Now everyone I talk to tells me that I got a steal on mine. On the few things that I have bought for the car are expensive. Just on replacement items that were in good sahpe, but I wanted new I've easily spent $2k.

  • it makes like 289hp if im correct

  • so, in 1985 there were no 1.8L making 210 hp. What is your point, that there have been advances in technology?

    Thanks informing us.

  • Furthermore, there isn't 1.8L pumping 355ft/lbs(87 GN) of torque in 85 or today. Don't get caught up the HP, the GN and the LC2 are known for their massive low-end torque which is what glues you to your seat when you launch these cars.

  • Not to mention there were/are no 1.8Ls making 355ft/lbs of torque in 85 or 2009!

  • @sinusbradycardia Actually the Mustang SVO was like a 2.0L that made around 200 HP

  • @gaguy1967 was it NA? Remember, i was commenting to a post where the poster said a NA 1.8L was making 210HP. Btw, more important what did the torque numbers look like?

  • @sinusbradycardia I dont think the SVO had great torque, it had such a little engine. I have a 2001 GTI with the VR6 engine. The HP is only 175 but the torque is very high and low end

  • @sinusbradycardia I think his point was nostalgia...0:20 and watch a girl cream her tights.

  • @sinusbradycardia You mean 3.8L and also the special series of these cars. The GNX series of the grand national kills new cars produced nowadays. :P so this car is very special

  • @sinusbradycardia

And engines were perfectly capable of pushing out 1 hp per cubic inch in the 80s too if the primivite emissions computers or the mechanical pumps werent slogging them down. The automotive engine has really developed very little since the days of the first chevy high compression small blocks. Just the fuel delivery means are alot more advanced

  • @Lumotaku You just made my point for me. "Primitive" would be old, now with every better electronics, we are finding vehicles make more HP on less cubic. I worked in powertrain software, I did high level drivers for fuel injectors. My drivers interfaced with a TPU, which once initialized was its own autonomous RISC cpu. I was a little familiar with open and closed loop fuel, very complicated algorithms. Like I said, there was no NA 1.8L pushing 210 and certainly not 300 ftlbs/tr

  • ???

  • its over 200 hp dip shit, your a fail at learning that 80% of the time the factory rating is off just take the stage one buick for example

the gn is also a steel bodied beast that can be hit with another car and survive unlike JDM cars

plus the GN is still worth 15,000 and more

  • Grandma , you were so hot !!!

  • This car a very beautiful, vivat BUICK!!!!!!

  • ha-ha ultra ultra 80's cheese-o-rama-but super awesome and superfast car though!

  • yeah wow!! totally break'n style moves there!!!! got to love the 80's!

  • they should bring back the GNX... instead of the ugly new camaro

  • i would have went to the dealer with cash in hand if i would have seen this commercial in the 80's, but i wasn't born yet.

  • Yes i would rather have a Buick, and i do, i own a 86 Grand National.

  • grand national for life!

  • "only 200 hp?."

First off, the GNs were under-rated. Because they simply blew the doors off every other production car in that era including Corvettes, Camaros, Firebirds, Mustangs and their Buick T-type Regal twins. Best part is, that it did it with a 3.8 V6 vs everyone elses V8's.

Second, this is the 80's were talking about here. There wasnt but a very, very few V8 production cars pushing 300HP bone stock. It wasnt until the mid-late 90's that many V8's rolled out 300+HP from the factory.

  • Yeah, one also has to keep in mind that cars were generally lighter at the time due to not having all those electronic gadgets and safety equipment cars of today are saddled with. Plus the torque of those pushrod lumps had something to say where the horsepower didn't.

  • Ive just read about this car ,

I could have just deleted my comments off and you'd have been none the wiser and i wouldnt have looked like c**t.

But this think would have pissed on my Gti 0-60 i thought it was just a big car with a big engine and it isnt.

Im going to sit in the corner now and you can throw things at me.

  • You're not the only one that underestimated these cars. You should have been at the tracks in the 80's when these cars started showing up. We would see these cars doing low 12's with just a few mods. Funniest thing was they were so quiet going down the track you could hear people shaking their heads. :) All you heard was the turbo and the wushing sound of the cat converter.

  • Hey props for manning up. Not too many people know of these cars, I read about them about 10 years ago and I've been hooked ever since. I would be the guy in videos games that would always trick out my GN only to know that the developers grossly underrated these cars. GN's are mos def in my top ten favorite cars of all time.

  • @kevt31 welcome to the jungle there Kev.. Now go read about the 1989 Turbo Trans Am, so you get the full story.

  • @kevt31 Read about the '87 GNX model and you'll be even more amazed...

  • lol

  • lol

  • Wow 200 hp thats really good.

Shame it weighs 10x more more than a 120bhp 1.8 Golf Gti.

    Wander which was quicker 0-60mph

  • The 85 had that funky turbo in the back by the heater box. This ad is right. I have video of a friends somewhere. Awesome car!!!

  • cool commercial, but this is for a 1986 Grand National. The only Grand National that had the SFI AND the chrome "moustache" at the top of the grill was the 1986. The 1987 Grand National also had the SFI, however the grill was black. The 1985 and older Grand Nationals were carb'd.

  • the 85 was not carbed it just was not intercooled 200 hp in 85 86 235 hp 87 245 hp

  • Comment removed

  • The 1984 and 1985 GN's are most definitely not carbureted, they were 200 hp MFI Fuel Injected and not intercooled. The car debuted in mid-84 and this ad, for the 1985 version, only aired once.

  • Did Darth Vader ever do a commercial for the GN? If he didn't he should have.

  • I remember a magazine story about the GNX called "Lord Vader, your car has arrived"

  • You remember what magazine?

  • No idea what magazine it was in. This was back when the GNX was a new car.

  • If GM ran an ad campaign with Luke Skywalker drag racing Darth Vader, they wouldn't need a federal bailout.

  • Fastest GM production vehicle of the time, beautiful cars. I'd need nothing else if I had one.

  • i really like the buick park avenues of the 80s especially the electra park avenues from the year 1985-1990 those were awesome great technology throughout! this buick regal gnx here is awesome history of how buick used to have true high performers!

  • whats everyones opinons on the buick park avenues in the 80s

  • They were excellent cars. I own a LeSabre

  • The only Buick I'd ever own. . . The Grand National was one sinister looking car.

Now their damn near unaffordable. :-/

  • id rather a 1970 GS 455 Stage 1, if you dont know what they are seach them on here and then tell me if ud change ur mind, i bet u would 4 sure

  • dont forget about other badass buick performers like the 1970 GSX

  • This commercial sucks with its Saturday Night Fever analogy.

  • yeah only 200 hp but it has the torque of a truck

  • only 200 hp?.....

  • he still hAS IT

  • i knew someone who owns a Buick Grand National 1985 and blass ozzy in his

car and it's the sound bounds off the

    houses

  • this is my fav car its gonna b the 2nd car i own

  • im gonna get a regal for my first car

  • omg. Nice channel, nice political views, and nice choice of a first car

  • i would really rather have a buick

  • .. now. if only i had the big bucks for a gnx!

  • .. i just bought my 3rd grand national 2 weeks ago. i luuuuuuuuuuuuv 'em! .. yes, i do!

  • Damn I remember watching this commerical as a kid and still badass!.

  • the girl looked like she was givin it to herself when the car drove by lol

  • I LOVE MINE!!

  • fastest production car of '87 god i lve that car

  • With the addition of an intercooler in 86-87 the HP rating went to 245.

  • they were rong with the hp, even without the intercooler it still had more than 200

  • the original turbo regals from the late seventies had like only 180 hp i think, and does this mean the commercial was wrong?

  • yeah they were rong, it had more than 200 hp

  • @LpJr99 check this out in 1983 the regal turbo car( TType) advertised 180hp,then in 84 they added a bunch of other new tech to the car that chevy, pontiac, and olds wouldnt use.the regal got a bigger turbo,a new camshaft, sequential fuel injection,CCCI,hi perf. fuel pump, etc, etc, etc ill stop thier, now you gonna tell me that all those goodies are only worth 20 more hp!!!!! they didnt get it wrong, they lied because they didnt wont to show on paper that it would kick the SSMC,GP's,442's asses.

  • yeah they were rong, it had more than 200 hp

  • yeah faster in a quarter mile but try to handle this car in corners...

  • ...and you could spend a fraction of that Testarossa money on it and make it handle very well.

  • theres no way, this car could be used for track. this car is the ullitmate drag car. But the testa is a ferrari. how many ladys are gonna wanna be seen in a gnx? i will bet that more will suck ur cock if u have a ittilian.

  • eh, i could argue against that... a friend of mine, who has more money then he needs, owns an early 90's Regal, and Gallardo... he says that most women complement his Regal, then they do the Gallardo. they say that the Gallardo really only says that he a man with too much cash, and trying to compensate, where as the regal was slick, stylish and fun, without being in your face obnoxious... but then, there are the gold diggers out thee who ignore him when he drive the regal, but love his lambo

  • If your turning corners in a drag race, your doing it wrong.

    :O)

  • I have one of these, but it's an 87

  • Funny how the 87 GN was faster than a 87 Testarossa in the 1/4mile.

  • Yessir!

  • I love Buicks. only 1 question tho. My 90 PA only had 160HP WHERE'S MY 245HP?!?!

  • 84-85 had 200hp, 86 235hp, 87 had 245hp

  • haha 82's suck ass

but y didnt they make 83's

was that to like make them better n shit

  • I thought standard Grand Nationals had 245 horsepower, no 200?

  • they had way more than 200 they had to say 200 so the corvette old farts would buy em. when this car would kick the shit out of them

  • cool ad

  • What exactly is a "chinkmobile?"

  • A japanse car

  • I hope you know that was a rhetorical question. I don't care for racial slurs.

  • Mullet optional, please see your local dealer for details.

  • leather seats "pants" heated mullet, what were we thinking

  • the 80s and 90s are the years that have a very succes cars ( exept from 97 and above) i wish they could bring back some favrod muscel cars such as caprice and cadi fleetwood and buick roadmaster i miss those cars ( the chicks are hot in this video)

  • I miss those cars too, especially the Fleetwood.

  • I miss those cars too, especially the Fleetwood.
