remember that the sound man owsley who switched the grounds at woodstock wasnt just high, he was the man who MADE the acid. the whole myth that the dead stank at woodstock was started by jerry on the letterman show, and he said it jokingly, so no one knows what he really thought. in the same interview he also said they were playing "not bad" down the street at msg, while they were SMOKIN'! this is the first ive really heard it and it isnt anywhere near as bad as he said.
the dead are just so hard on themselves espically their live preformances, their woodstock gig wasnt even that bad, the worst day the dead have is the greatest day any other band could dream of
for so many years we heard how bad The Dead were at Woodstock. Just watched The Woodstock Ultimate collection and saw them perform Lovelight. I thought it sounded great! Thet were really selling them selves short by saying how bad they were.
God awful. No wonder they hated their Woodstock performance. Yes, it was equipment related and several of the band members received shocks from the mikes, etc. An awesome band that still inspires me and many young kids I know that never got to tour. St. Stephen is the sweetest of songs. Check out Dark Star Orchestra in concert some time if you want a pretty good Dead experience.
OK you do the amount of drugs they were on, get shocked touching your instrument, and play in the middle of the night trippin your gourd off- lets see how you sound. Some of you fuckers sayin bad shit dont/cant play ANY instrument.... Under the circumstances I think they did just fine... OH and of all the bands at woodstock- who was still playin and selling out venues into the 90's?
Shit... if you dont know what your talking about- then keep your trap shut.
@artsmith1972 If they weren't on drugs during the performance then it could have been better. But they were getting interferance on the amps, and like you say the stage was flooded and they did get shocked.

never knew they played woodstock..cocksuckers that released album..missed alot of bands..i hope there firstborn dies in a car accident,...frickin bitches
most people dont know they played in woodstock due to the fact that the dead considered a horrible show.
due to the rain, most of their set was just them getting shocked and they were notoriously horrible. I love the dead, but there is a reason their performance wasnt released.
wow, that's a bit much. Look for an interview on you tube with David Letterman. Jerry and Bob will explain. Their equipment guy didn't do a good job or maybe he was stoned out of his gord.
this is supossed to be one of the worst-ever-shows in their history, in part due to both time (very late )and weather(their equipment was almost "soaked to the bone" )
Hey, don't down thumbs him, they themselves said that this was their worst performance ever. They were all soaked and there was an error in the grounding of their equipment, and Jerry Garcia reportedly got shocked every time he touched his guitar.
