@ZackT618 Yeah! I haven't seen those clips but I would imagine the same. Sign-Offs and idents in the 1980s and prior had very innocent, very mesmerizing designs, aspects and qualities that were lost in the 1990s onward. It's sad because sign-offs nowadays typically remind us of what we'll forever miss from the 1980s. Oh those were the days!!! I'd do anything to time travel back to the 1980s. It's unfortunate that there are people that take such things for granted. A real shame!!!
I too also grew up with this ID when I was in elementary school in Durham, NC "gsnman." And yes it is definately a tresured find. We don't see stuff like this anymore...which is sad and pathetic. I wish they would go back to this LOGO ID. I love and cherish this ID better than the new "CW 22" one. CW & b4 that the WB suxd big time. Nothing can ever compare to our beloved (former analog) tv channel WLFL FOX 22. Much love to my FOX 22 luvrz. Go 2 "wnyet1987" channel 2 C more "WLFL FOX 22" stuff!
I remember when WKBF (Channel 61) in Cleveland (as a Kaiser Broadcasting concern) gave back their license (and broadcasting company) to the FCC.. Looks like the same thing.
I have the WLFL-TV sign-off from the year 2000 on videotape, but I dont have the TV card needed to transfer it to my pc :(. IT has a deep baritone voiced broadcaster.
In 1996, Fox announced that it would not renew its contract with WLFL when it got involved in a dispute with Sinclair over programming issues during the 10:00 p.m. slot. Even though Fox got another affilitaion, it still managed to have WRAZ-TV (channel 50) in 1998 to the present, leaving WLFL to pick up programming from the WB.
I miss that logo of the lasers cutting the gold bricks into the number "22," and that melody that just fit the call letters perfectly. I'd welcome any more Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill TV memorabilia you've got.
I recall that sign-off from back then (I lived in NC at the time), and it sure seemed ratehr "bare-bones"...with superficial station info and no national anthem clip. They're of course now affiliated with the CW (they went from FOX to WB and now CW)
Yes, they are. And I remember when FOX network used "the lasers cutting the gold bricks". It was also used in other cities in different states (probably the "FOX" thing at the time). And that is correct. They went from being independent to FOX; FOX to WB: and now WB to CW (what it is now).
I also seem to recall WXLV (then WNRW, channel 45) back in late 80's using the "lasers cutting" image; must've been a FOX thingy. And I recall WLFL was an indie before FOX signed on, but what stations are not part of a network now...or for that matter aren't on 24 hours?
nice idea but not necessarily, these localized logos were only used by stations once owned by TVX (but not all of them)... stations in Raleigh (WLFL), Greensboro (WNRW -> WXLV), Little Rock (KJTM -> KASN), Nashville (WCAY -> WUXP), San Antonio (KRRT ->KMYS), Norfolk (WTVZ), Buffalo (WNYB -> WNYO), New Orleans (WNOL). TVX also owned WRLH Richmond, WCIX (now WFOR) Miami, WTXF Philadelphia, WMKW (now WLMT) Memphis, KTXA Dallas, KTXH Houston and WDCA Washington, DC but they never used these logos.
I also have the 2011 WLFL TV Sign Off. It sucks compared to this one and the one from 1999-2001!

I remember I used to record episodes of Robotech on WLFL and watch them when I came home from school everyday.
I also recorded "The Wraith" with Charlie Sheen from this channel. Found the tape mixed in with some old stuff I had saved about a year ago.

That's my father's voice. He also did the news there. He was the voice of WLFL 22 for a very long time. Thanks for posting this :-)

I was pretty young when WLFL was on the air, but I remember watching it as a kid! Good nostalgia!
